    - Error creatin gnew document WE are using Sharepoint services (not portal) for our website and I have discovered a bug. I cannot create a NEW document in any document library although I can EDIT existing documents. I've done a search on both Google and MS Support and tried the various fixes that I've found, including: repair/reinstall office 2003 enabling sharpoint support in the office 2003 installation manually unregistering and re-registering the sharepoint support dll (this failed btw) any other ideas?     - Error after MS critical updates for August 2006 After the critical updates from MS were installed this month I can no longer successfully click on DESIGN THIS PAGE in a SharePoint site. It takes an error on mshtml.dll which was updated. After removing update KB918899 and rebooting the problem is gone. There are a number of updates under KB918899 and removing them all may not be required. If anyone has additional information please post it here. Tag: Data values from dataview into a column?     - How do I create a Look Up List based on a Calculated Type Field I created an EMPLOYEE list with a FULL NAME field based on =[FIRST NAME]&" "&[LAST NAME]. I also created a VACATION list. I tried to create "lookup" column based on the EMPLOYEE - FULL NAME column. A bunch of other fields in the EMPLOYEE table are visible as possible "lookup" columns, but the FULL NAME column is not.     - SSL and Sharepoint Services When i change the Host Header of the Website, the Site also changes in Sharepoint Configuration. But when i change the website host header and i use ssl then in Sharepoint Configuration the hostname ist displayed. Example: Host Header = intranet.domain.com -> Sharepoint changes to http://intranet.domain.com Host Header with SSL required = intranet.domain.com -> Sharepoint changes to https://servername The main problem is that the webparts do not function any more because they where not seen as trusted.     - Security groups for sharepoint access, require email address. Hello, I was planning on using NT Security Groups to administer my Sharepoint access, as this will be the easiest option. In Sharepoint it asks for an email address for each group that i enter. Does it matter what address i put in there? The security groups are not distribution groups.     - SharePoint Home Page I'm new to SharePoint and I want to get to know it. I installed SBS 2003 on a clean server. The admin tasks show the SharePoint central admin page is there. I can't find my SharePoint home page anywhere. I don't know if SharePoint services isn't right or active directory or what. I don't have SharePoint Portal installed, but I didn't think I had to.     - Missing Save Password Option On SharePoint Login Client is Windows XP Home Edition with current Microsoft Updates. Client is a member of a local workgroup. Server is Windows 2003 SP1 running WSS 2.0 located in a remote Colocation facility. When connecting to the site, the Client prompts for UserName And Password, but there is no option for saving the UserName and Password. Login is successful but the user must continually reenter credentials. All other Clients at this location have no problems saving their UserName/Passwords. Suggestions????     - FrankM WSS template problem 20060811-001 I'm having a little problem with the command line on the stsadm.exe command. I am trying to "enhance" our project template and load it to use in out test environment. I do not understand the 'Title' part of the command. What is this referring to and what am I attempting to addressing? I did note a comment below stating the Project Workspace template title was the only one available in Project Server 2003. If that is the case, can I confirm that. We are creating templates. We have used the enumtemplates command to list the multiple templates we have created.     - Master/Detail DVWP: New Master search still shows old Detail Hello - I created a pretty simple master/detail setup with two data views going against a SQL database. Master DVWP uses a search box to filter the results, and then clicking each item in the Master filtered list shows the Detail below. However, here's my problem: 1) Load up web page, empty search (no Master list since there is no filter, no Detail shown). 2) Enter search string and do postpack, Master lists A and B. Detail shows A, as it defaults to show the first row. 3) Click "B". Master shows B as selected, Detail shows B. 4) Enter new Master search, do postback, Master lists C and D. Detail still shows B. #4 should have Detail shows C, being the first row in the list. But somehow that doesn't get passed to the Detail after changing the Master filter. If I skip step #3, and never choose an item to display in the detail and always just have it default to the first row, then #4 works as expected. It's only when I manually trigger the web part connection. So my question is how to clear that parameter so that when I re-filter the Master it goes back to passing the first row value to the Detail?     - WSS w/ SQL Server 2005 Work Group Edition? Hello, I have an existing SQL Server 2005 Work Group Edition install. I have a single database on this server and I am using SSIS and SSRS on this SQL Server. Based on this KB article, you can use SQL Server 2005 as a backend for WSS and SPS, provided you upgrade to the appropriate Service Pack for WSS/SPS and allow remote connections from SQL Server. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917446 Can I install WSS (or SPS) on a SEPARATE server and use my SQL Server 2005 server as my data store for it (remember I have Work Group Edition)? Can I install WSS (or SPS) on the SAME box as my SQL Server 2005 server? Wouldn't this effectively make the Reporting Services usless on my server since WSS (and SPS, I think) take over the default Web Site on the server? Are there any other considerations, other than having WSS SP2 (or SPS SP2) installed if I wanted to use SQL SErver 2005 as my datastore for my WSS (or SPS) site(s)? TIA!!!     - User can not edit documents in document library Does anyone know why a user would not be able to edit a document (excel) in a document library, but other users with the exact same permissions can? The user in question is the owner of the sharepoint site and is the one who posted the documents to the library in the first place.     - Unable to connect to SharePoint content database error At seemingly random times we get the following error on our SharePoint (WSS, SP2) server.... #50070: Unable to connect to the database CONTENT_DATABASE on SERVER_NAME. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running. I've checked the first two possible issue and OLEDB32.DLL is a higher version that 2.80. Also both the SHarPoint timer service and admin application pool are running under NETWORK SERVICE. An IISREST sures the problem for a day or so. Is anyone else getting this error?     - Remove Create Site Ability What we would like to do is have "Admins" of sites be able to add users but not be able to create subsites. We would like the subsites to be controlled by a higher level admin. What we have found is that if we give a user the ability to add users, they can simply set themselves to an Admin and create sites. If we remove the "Create Site" permission from the WSS Virtual Server settings, no one can add sites. That includes local admins of the portal server, users in the WSS admin group, etc...     - Share email with WSS? Can WSS be used to share email among all users of a Exchange Server? My understanding is that at best, I can only use WSS to share email attachments. This is based on the following quote from the "Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Administrator's Guide", "Configuring E-Mail-Enabled Document Libraries" topic: "Any documents attached to messages in the public folder can be automatically inserted into the document library, and the document library displays the document, plus the From address, the subject line, and the date and time that the attachment was inserted into the document library. Note that the body text of the e-mail message is not preserved. It remains in the public folder, but is not transferred to the document library." The users really want the *body* of the email to be shared. If my understanding is correct, then it's confusing that MS is trying to move away from Public Folders in lieu of WSS, while at the same time not adding Public Folder features into WSS.     - Sharepoint Permissions Hello, my site is http://shpt/it An authenticated user and a local administrator can add and modify. They are not in any groups, and have no privieleges. There is only 1 user administrator that has administrator rights (in team web site -Manage Users). Why can these 2 modify when they are not in any groups? I then removed domain admins from the local admin account on the SQL server and the users were restricted as i wanted. Is this correct and if so does anyone know why?     - List Templates (again) Time for a new SP? Hi folks, I've saved a comprehensive Contacts list (out-of-the-box Contacts list with extra fields, lookups etc.) as a template, with content. I then saved it as a file on the network, and you can see it has content at 153kb, so you know it kept the content. You can see it in the gallery and the create page ok only because I saved it from the root site. I know it won't be available in the Create page on a sub-site (unless someone knows better; that'd be real cool). Now, my problem is, when I import this list template into another root WSS site, and subsequently create a Contacts list based on that template, it only provides several default fields and no content. :( Disheartening to say the least. (will anyhting ever work the way you want it?? I digress). The original site was overhauled by a consultant (who shall remain nameless) to provide our company with new site templates with our special logoso and jerr-rigged menus, so does this mean the templates are buggered up or ghosted? I can't use FrontPage on these special templated sites as they loose their headers, ie: they're ghosted. Any help or advise on these template matters would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.     - Permissions problem (WSS2) Hi, I thought I posted this earlier, but it seems to have disappeared. Apologies for any duplication. I have a content database served over two websites, one for internal with integrated auth and one for external access with basic auth over ssl (to overcome issues associated with using basic and integrated auth on the same site). Each site has it's own application pool (to allow the recycle bin ISAPI to work on both) running in network service context. I've added a global group to the reader group which works inconsistently. When I log into either website with a user who is a member of this group, most of the time I will be challenged for the username and password, and will eventually get an access denied error. If I thne log in to the site as an admin, then close the browser so that I get prompted to login again, then log back into the site, it then allows me to login as a reader user fine.     - Upload Files Problem Using SPS 3.0 and Vista (maybe too much beta). I've suddenly lost my ability to upload files. When I try to upload a file, and navigate to the Choose File dialog, I only see SharePoint Drafts under my Documents folder. There are files in that folder, but none appear in the Choose File dialog. Other folders not under Documents (Images, Music) show all of their files. I uploaded a file to a different library just the other day, but today this library shows the same behavior when I try to upload. This occurs whether I try to upload one or multiple files. A colleague can still upload, so I'm guessing this is a Vista issue, in which case I may be in the wrong group. Still, any suggestions? Thanks in advance!     - Calendar View I have created a calendar view for an event list I loaded using an imported excel file (contains multiple events on various different dates). The import was successful and I have a calendar containing the desired content. However, when I view the calendar, the only column from the event that is displayed (as a link) is the Group column. I am able to click on the link and the event content becomes viewable on another page (but only that event). I would like the calendar to display all of the event's data instead of forcing users to click on the Group link for each event. Is there a setting to either: 1.) View all of the data for each event on the calendar view or 2.) Change the current Group to the Activity Description so I will know what each event is when I look at the entire month calendar view?     - Site Collection Owner Hi, I am trying to add a particular user as an owner of a site collection and I get this error...... "The user domain\user does not have an email address".     - Problem Updating List from MS Access I am trying to run an Append query from MS Access 2003 to add records to an existing SharePoint (WSS 2.0) list. I have added the list to the Access database as a linked table and when I run my append query, I get an Invalid Internet Address error message. Access Help, provides the following useless explanation: Invalid Internet address. (Error 3651) You have requested an Internet address which is not valid or not available. Check the address, and if it is valid, try again later. Does anyone have any ideas why this would happen? I am an Admin on WSS site, have no problem linking to the list from Access and can manually edit the SharePoint list records from the Access file.     - Word/Excel Docs in Sharepoint For ease of explanation I have 2 documents, an excel document located on my local computer that has hyperlinks setup to point to differing word documents located on a network location. Also, both documents are password protected and can be viewed as read only unless the correct password is given. First Question. I upload the Excel document to a Sharepoint Shared Documents Web Part. When i go into my Excel document the hyperlink I setup to point out to my network location has now been change to look in my shared documents web part. How do i get sharepoint to not update the hyperlinks in my documents when i upload them to sharepoint? Second Question. After noticing that it was trying to look for the word document in the shared documents web part i thought i would place there. I open the excel document and click on the hyperlink to open the linked word document i now have in my shared documents. The document opens just fine. However, when i make changes to the document and go to save it no longer points me to sharepoint but to "My Documents" to save the changes. The only way i can get it to point to sharepoint is if i edit the document directly instead of using the hyperlink. How do i get it to work so that when i click on the hyperlink to open the document within excel and then want to save that document that it saves it back to SharePoint instead of My Documents?     - HTTP Error 401.1 After Password Change I have searched around and have not found anything relevant do what I am experiencing. To start off, we have Windows Sharepoint Services sp1 (soon to be upgraded) running on a Windows 2003 Server, with a Windows 2000 Active Directory Setup. Workstations are running XP SP2 w IE 6 SP2. We have been running sharepoint for about a year with about 100 active directory users using it. During that course of a year 2 people have received the following after changing their active directory password: HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. Internet Information Services (IIS) As for the first person, she just started working about 3 days later (no clue why). As for the other person, user A we will call him, (that I am still having a problem with), this is what I have done so far: - Rebooted the sharepoint server - Rebuilt windows profile on workstation - Internet Explorer (reset settings to default, added to trusted sites, cleared forms and passwords None worked. However, if we take User A and log him into another Windows XP workstation it he can access the sharepoint sites without any issues. Or if another user logs into his workstation, they can access the sharepoint sites. We are also using OWA internally and it works fine. I have read some things about Kerberos, IIS settings, but did not feel that they were relevant since 98% of all of our other users work without any problems. Events spanning multiple days (eg, out of town customer visits) are displayed as a continuous bar from the start date to the end date, IF I enter the date using the start and end fields. When I use the recurrence field, a series of events are displayed, one for each day. I understand why that happens. Now, I created views to display only vacations, only customer visits, only training, etc. When I click on those views, only the start date is displayed - not the entire series or continuous bar.     - Sharepoint 2007 and multiple headers in IIS Hi all, In SPS/WSS 2003 I was able to create an IIS site and modify its properies to host multiple headers ie http://server:81 http://internal http://www.acme.com as long as I added these headers and the appropriate dns and firewall rules. ... I attempted the same tricks I am used to with IIS but when I add these headers to the IIS web site when I browse using any of the headers they always revert back to the first http://server:81 url.     - Cannot access Sharepoint from another server Hello, I have setup Sharepoint on a Windows 2003 r2 server. I have connected it to a MS SQL database fine. This is setup to use Windows Authentication. I can locally log in to the website and add files fine on the server. Then i try to log into a different pc still as the site administrator which i confirmed had the "administrator" privilege. It prompts for a username and password. "Connecting to shpt-XXX-01.domain.com" I put in the admin credentials. You are not authorized. is the error. I then added a seperate user account and gave him admin, and still it did nothing. I then set it to bypass the proxy settings and still it did nothing. I also tried the SQL service account that i made still the same error, have i missed something?
