Data View is just that i.e. for viewing.
It is not suitable for editing, deleting etc.
The only way that I would do that (hesitantly) in a WSS site would be to =
write some ASP scripts that access the database and put them in the =
appropriate ready made web part for them (probably the Page Viewer web =
part - someone will correct me if I'm wrong)
But then you said you didn't want to write ASP ...

Thanks for the advice...
What I'm looking at doing is to create pages on the Share point server =
that I can program to access, edit, delete etc data from an SQL server =
on a separate box.
I use the database connection wizard to do this normally (Being too =
lazy to learn ASP for my simple needs).
I'll see what I can do with the data view.
Many thanks.
Cliff.

Cliff, adding to Gregg's (which of course he knew)
If the latter then use FP 2003's Data View feature to access the SQL =
Server information and present it in web part form on your WSS site.

I am not entirely sure what it is you are trying to do? Can you =
give some more details. Are you looking to move your MSDE install over =
to your SQL install or are you just trying to access some data and =
display it on a web part page.

I Have set up Sharepoint services 2003 using MSDE on the =
Sharepoint server (Not wanting to mess with my existing SQL 2000 =
installation on a separate machine). Is it possible to create a network =
connection (I also have Frontpage 2003), from the Sharepoint web site to =
the external SQL datasource? It seems data connections for external =
non-Sharepoint data sources are disabled?
Is this right or am I completely mistaken?
Thanks in anticipation.
Cliff.
