I Have set up Sharepoint services 2003 using MSDE on the Sharepoint =
server (Not wanting to mess with my existing SQL 2000 installation on a =
separate machine). Is it possible to create a network connection (I also =
have Frontpage 2003), from the Sharepoint web site to the external SQL =
datasource? It seems data connections for external non-Sharepoint data =
sources are disabled?

Is this right or am I completely mistaken?

Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for the advice...

What I'm looking at doing is to create pages on the Share point server =
that I can program to access, edit, delete etc data from an SQL server =
on a separate box.

I use the database connection wizard to do this normally (Being too lazy =
to learn ASP for my simple needs).

I'll see what I can do with the data view.

Many thanks.

Data View is just that i.e. for viewing.

It is not suitable for editing, deleting etc.

The only way that I would do that (hesitantly) in a WSS site would be to =
write some ASP scripts that access the database and put them in the =
appropriate ready made web part for them (probably the Page Viewer web =
