    - Adding 2 Link List web part in ONET.xml I'm trying to modify the ONET.xml so that evertime a site gets created, it will by default has the 2 links web part loaded.     - SP1 Install Hi, I've got a premium setup excluding ISA. I did a fresh build and while at it installed the updates downloaded from net (CD not available in NZ yet)... but didn't do any MSDE or SQL updates. SQL is running SP3. Do I need to run the MSDE & SQL Updates now that I've installed SP1? or can I leave those unpatched? Running a SQL database for a 3rd party app, and MSDE is running for Veritas and SBSMonitoring.     - Publishing a document from a workspace to a library Hi The ability to publish a document from a workspace back to it's document library is very handy. However, it is disappointing that this is only available if the document workspace was created from an existing library document. Is there any product on the market or anything in development that adds the ability to publish a document that has been worked on and finished in a workspace to a document libray for the first time?     - WSS document Import I'm trying to import a document library from SP 2001 into a WSS 2003 site using SPIN. I have been able to get three of the 4 libraries I need to import moved but one is giving me fits. I get all the way through the process and get an error referencing the XML file being unable to parse, Please check the logs. The only indication of a failure in SPIN error log is as follows: EXCEPTION: Stack empty. at System.Collections.Stack.Pop() at Microsoft.SharePoint.Migration.Import.ImportFileParser.ParseImportXmlFile(String fileName) An error occured when parsing the xml.     - 255 character length restriction on multiple lines of text column in a picture library [reposted to correct group] I cannot find any documentation of this - or anyone else running across it. I have a picture library which has a multiple lines of text column, "Biographical Notes". I am unable to add more than 255 characters.     - Prompted for Login with Office 2003 HI! I have a WSS site with office documents. When I open the site on a machine with Office 2000 I can open the documents without getting prompted to re-authenticate. If I open the site on a machine with Office 2003 I get prompted to re-authenticate. This leads me to believe it is not a problem with IIS or IE but with the version of Office.     - SOX Accelerator - Cannot Add Child Nodes in the Config.xml in Info I'm trying to customize the site structure using the Control Environment Editor. I can successfully open the config.xml file in InfoPath, but when trying to add a child node I'm prompted with the following error: "Error adding child taxonomy node: 'Cannot create unique identifier for the new node." I tried modifying the config.xml in visual studio editor, but when I uploaded the customized config.xml and tried to open it using InfoPath, I'm told i need to update my version of MS InfoPath, by installing Service Pack . I only see this message when trying to open the file in infopath after customizing the config.xml in visual studio and reuploaded it to the portal. I've posted some messages on the gotdotnet communities associated with SOX, but I havent recieved any replies. All help is very appreciated.     - Removing a site template We have an old site template that won't go away... It's not in any Site Template Galleries. It doesn't show up when we do an "stsadm -o enumtemplates" at the command line. And yet, when we create a new site, it consistently shows up in the dropdown on the Template Selection page within all site collections. If we select it, we get a "file not found" error. We have done an IISRESET. And I've cleared my browser cache and set "check for newer versions of stored pages" on "every visit to the page". Ideas, anyone?     - Leadit.SharePoint.Essentials install problem Has anyone else experienced a problem with running the MSI package for Jan Tielen's Leadit.SharePoint.Essentials web parts? I'm using the 1.1.2.0 version on a Virtual Machine. I get to the point about updating the GAC, but then I get the following error: --------------------------- Setup --------------------------- Setup has encountered an error during installation and must close.     - "Link to Outlook" does always appear on Events nav bar at top I have a client that is trying to link an Event Calendar to their Outlook on several workstations. Some of the WS work okay with the option "Link to Outlook" appearing on the nav bar for the Events list, but some of the WS do not present that option. Anyone have an idea what is going on?     - Increase WSS List column width I searched through this group earlier hoping for a good way to increase the width of a column in a document library. Unfortunately, the most common answer I came across was use to Front Page. This is certainly feasable, but not when I want it done for all team sites. Anyways, I was able to do it via the Document definition and thought I'd post it for the next person interested... I simply added a second computed column to the list definition that displayed the first column using the DisplayPattern tag. This allowed me to render it exactly how I wanted to.     - Customizing site definitions using multipage meeting workspace Hello all, Lately I've been going through the frustrating experience of creating a site definition for the first time. I've followed the article "Creating a Site Definition from an Existing Site Definition" in the SharePoint SDK. The problem is the site definition I want to derive from is the Multipage Meeting Workspace, because of the tabs and "Add Page" functionality we want to give our client. The meeting functionality is not important at all. I've been working with Microsoft support for the past week and now the support rep is telling me that I can't copy the MPS folder (not the STS folder as per instructions) and use that as the start to my template. The rep said I would have to modify the original files in MPS, which a) is not supported and b) I don't want to do because I don't want to have all Multipage Meeting Workspaces use the new site definition. I don't buy it. Has anybody else been able to successfully create a site definition from the Multipage Meeting Workspace? This has to be possible. After all, wss.collutions.com is built on this template. I appreciate any help anyone can come up with.     - Using Document Library fields in another list Hi everyone. I'm trying to build a custom list that has some values, and one of them should be the name of a file which is stored in a document library. When I try to create the column as Lookup, and get the info from my document library, I get only ID field and Title field. Title field is filled only when it is modified manually or in the document's properties, but I cannot access Document's name information. Do you know how to do this?? I am thinking on a workaround:to make the defalut value of Title the same of the document name, but it doesn't allow me either. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thks, Nicolas.     - Microsoft CRM took over the default web site We have installed Microsoft CRM v 1.2 on the same server as our WSS, and now I cannot access any of the SharePoint sites that were available prior to the installation of the MS CRM product. The only virtual server listed in the virtual server list is the Microsoft CRM virtual server @http://<servername>/ The only 2 web sites listed under IIS in the server management console are (1) Microsoft CRM version 1.2 (2) SharePoint Central Administration Is there any way I can restore or reconnect to the previously created SharePoint sites?     - How to stop alert in this situation ... I just found out that the Sharepoint Timer Service was stopped about a couple of weeks ago. I have started the service and now I am getting tons of alert emails because last 2 weeks I have moves thousands of files from a file server to the Sharepoint server. I stopped the service now but now I want to know how to clear the qued alert messages.     - Opening Attachemnts in New Window I'm trying to let user open Attachments in Tasks to a new window. I've searched high and low for this, all I get is a way to make Links open in new window. However, that doesn't really apply to attachment. I cannot do it with front page because it will only let me put a target=_blank when there is already an attachment (ie won't work on a blank task).     - Custom lists sending emails when integrated with pwa I am currently using the issue and risk lists. I would like to create a custom list and have the same features of the issue list (send email notifications to the assigned to individual when the issue is created/modified). Is this doable? It looks like since WSS is integrated with PWA, it will not let you create custom lists that have the issue list features. I have tried creating issue list template then incorporating the list into the sharepoint, but no such luck. Any info on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.     - User Gets Log In Pop Up Even When Not Actively Using WSS Hi, This is a follow up to the earlier post. The user is not actively using WSS but continually gets a log in box for username and password. It appears that something in the Belarc BellMonitor software was doing this. We use that to upload the hardware/software profiles of work stations to a database. Had the user change the BellNotify settings to get the proxy sttings from Internet Explorer.     - Add stock search to intranet This may be more advanced than it originally sounds but is there a way to add a stock search to my SBS Sharepoint intranet? I found the default MSNBC web part that allows stock symbols to be added either globally or for each user. What I'm looking for is a way to allow users to type in a symbol and have data displayed.     - Accessing document library via Web Folder - problems with caching? Hi all, When accessing a document library via a web folder on a SharePoint 2003 server, how exactly does the caching work ? It seems as though I must manually "refresh" to get the latest version of a file. Further, the IE cache settings don't seem to have any effect on web folders. Do you have any information on how this works or is this "as designed"? For example: 1. I open any document library such as <file://servername/sites/is/shared documents> with Windows Explorer. Documents appear and I can edit them. 2. I create a new word document and save it. 3. User 2 opens the document via windows explorer and can see it just fine. He closes it. 4. I re-open the document and add a line, save it, check it in if necessary. 5. HERE's where the problem occurs: User 2 opens it again and sees the old copy from step 3, i.e. without the added line. 6. User 2 closes doc, uses "View" and "Refresh" in windows explorer, and re-opens document 7. User 2 can now see the current version of the document. The short of it is that the user has to manually refresh before opening any and every document to make sure he is getting the current version. This is neither desireable nor practical for day to day use. There is no problem accessing the correct document via the regular web pages. Any light anyone can shed on this would be appreciated.     - Sites and Workspaces Problem For some reason not all subsites are showing on list the first time you view the list. If I leave and go back, all of the subsites then show. Steps I take to reproduce the issue: 1. Go to the site homepage and click the "Site Settings" link. 2. Click "Manage Sites & Workspaces" * I will see a list of a couple of sites. 3. Click the "Home" Link. 4. Click "Site Settings" link. 5. Click "Manage Sites & Workspaces" * I will now see all of my sites.     - List all sites users are members of I am pretty new to Sharepoint so I am sorry of this is something which has been discussed before or is something obvious. I have been working with Lotus Quickplaces for a few years and one of the features is a "My Places" page which lists all the Quickplaces a user is a member of.     - Sharepoint Top Level Site reachable via Subdomain Hello Everbody, we are settiung up an extranet which inclues informations for our suppliers and distributors. For that we have installed the Sahrepoint Services on our W2K3 Web Server running an IIS and holding our company homepage. I've created an extra subdomain "extranet.companyname.com" What I want to is that anyone who connects via that subdomain is direct on the start page from the sharepoint.     - Need more information on Office 2003 Spreadsheet Web Part We have a spreadsheet that several of us modify on a daily basis, that I would to manipulate thru the spreadsheet web part. I download the necessary pieces for this web part, including the Add-In for Excel 203, and have Office 2003 Pro installed. Using the Add-In for Excel, I create the necessary files in a doclib. Then I import the .dwp, add the web part to my site. Now, if I update the data and click save, where is the data saved? I would have expected it update the corresponding xmlss.xml file in the doclib, since my webpart points to a solutionspec file which points to it. However, if I checkout the XMLSS.xml file and view the .xml file, it doesn't include the changes may to the spreadsheet view. If I make changes in the XMLSS.xml file, then check the file back in, refresh my page, my spreadsheet webpart is not updated either. Are these two supposed to be connected? Do I need to use "Connect to Data"? Should I be able to manipulate the .xml file as well as the spreadsheet web part and changes are sync?     - Hide documents in word dialog Is it possible to use a SharePoint document view in the save/open dialog in word when creating a new document. I have deleted the "All items" and "Explorer" views and created a new shared view that only shows the documents that the user have created himself. But when the user creates a new document from sharepoint and saves it in Word he/she can see all documents stored in the document library.     - Lookup field in meeting gives items from all meeting data. Hi all, In a meeting room, in the list decisions, i made an extra lookup field, to select the appropriate agenda item. For each date, i can see the correct decisions, agenda items, etc. But when i insert a new decision, the drop downlist also shows agenda items from all other meetings on different data.     - Online webpart gallery I'm unable to connect to the online webpart gallery. Before it just used to say that the webpart gallery was empty, so I did a bit of googling and found out that i was required to add <system.net> <defaultProxy> <proxy proxyaddress="http://proxyip:proxyport" bypassonlocal="true"/>; </defaultProxy> </system.net> So I added those lines just above system.web in the web.config file. I restarted IIS and now i'm presented with the following error. Cannot open the Online Gallery. The site server has not been configured to support an online gallery. For more assistance, contact your site administrator.     - Calculated columns: Name I am trying to add a calculated column in a document library. I would like to add LEFT(Name,8) but the "Name" column is not in the list of available columns and I've tried several combinations including using name like "Name (for use in forms)" etc. I would like to be able to group my views on the first 8 characters of the name of the item. Hi,
When I created Top level site WSS it ask for the Email ID I guess for
the owner of the site.

And all mails(regarding the access request) comes to me as I have given
my ID there. Now want the mail shold come to other ID. From where I can
change that mail ID.
