    - Document Library/ Word Integration Issue I have a SPS 2003 training environment with 15 laptops/users. Each user is part of an Active Directory security groups I created specifically for SPS. In SPS they have been given "Web Designer" rights. When I try to create/save/edit a Word document from a document library it launches in Word, but saves to the local My Documents folder. When I log in to the same machine as an Administrator, however, the files save correctly to the SPS web folder. Is the Word integration piece profile specific?     - user lookup in v3 I see in WSS v3 that when I am adding users to anything I get the chance to search and it can find users in the domain. This is great. However what I need is to restrict the scope of that search, so that for everything under Top-Level-Site-A it only searches for user accounts under the TLSA Organizational Unit, and for Top-Level-Site-B it only searches for user accounts under the TLSB OU.     - Dependent / Dynamic / Cascading Drop Downs!?! Hi, I would like to enhance our SharePoint site (WSS v2) by adding dependent drop downs to our site (so many terms for these drop downs - dependent / dynamic / cascaidng / linked etc..). We primarily use the site as a document management system, therefore I want this functionality on the pages where users upload or create new documents i.e. upload.aspx. I have spent quite some time reading the forums and looking this up on the internet, and most ppl point to using some kind of List filter within InfoPath. Now I am reasonably new to SharePoint and a total novice with InfoPath, however my understanding is that InfoPath creates forms... however the part of SharePoint I wish to edit is the 'ListFormWebPart'. Can I still update this type of page using InfoPath or should I be looking at a different product?? I'm sure my inexperience probably comes through in this post! If anyone could clarify or explain how I should be approaching this or point to me relevant pages etc.. I would be eternally grateful!! Thanks in advance!     - Windows Sharepoint Services - Internet Facing? Hi I've recently been asked the question whether it would be possible to make our Windows Sharepoint Site Internet facing. Is this possible with the out of the box version?, does anyone know if there is an extra licensing cost?. I was also wondering how Authentication would work for our current AD users as I was under the impression that only Basic Authentication can negotiate a firewall.     - workflow error in sharepoint services v3 I have designed a new workflow in Sharepoint Designer and attached it to a list in a subsite. When i start the workflow as a user with site owner rights it works ok. When i strat it as a user with contributor or visitor right it starts with an error and nothing happens. The workflow is on a custom list, when an item is added the workflow creates a task for a user in the task list. Anyone know this problem. I have read somthing that looks a bit the same, a known bug in sharepoint v3 for workflows that send an email. Those workflows can only be started as a site owner.     - New View in Events List as Calendar View WSS + SP2 + SQL Server on SBS2003 Recurring events, or those which span more than one day, are displayed in standard Calendar view as an event on each day, or as a bar spanning multiple days. I simply want to create a view to do the same thing, except filter the events by category, but when I create a view (even without filters), the event is shown on only the first day! If someone experienced would be so kind as to follow the instructions below and tell me if they are experiencing the same results, it would help me determine if the problem is only in my system or if the problem is a bug/incapability in the software.     - Document protection - Best Practices We have a small .NET development team here, 10 developers. We recently started using SharePoint for our team site as a way to share links, documents, event information, etc. All of this has been pretty open without any real concerns for security, basically just a public storage area. Now we have set up a separate site for system documentation. For this area, we do need some security. This site is basically just a shared document area. At the top level, there is a folder for each project. When you open a folder, there will be primarily Word documents outlining the project requirements, etc. There may be other supporting documents as well such as Visio diagrams, Excel worksheets, screen shots, etc. We want everyone to be able to view everything in the folders. Everyone should be able to save their own copy locally as well. The goal is that if anyone should be able to view system documentation. However, we want to limit updates to the document owner/creator or a system administrator. This sounds incredibly easy, but we seem to be missing something. I have installed Adobe Ifilter 6.0 on my SQL Server 2005 64bit I have added the pdf icon to the web farm so my PDF's icons are displaying corectly in sharepoint Any help on this subject will be appreciated...     - Security in SharePoint I will start this out by saying I am fairly new at SharePoint, so forgive me if this is obvious. I am trying to set up a site group so that members have permission to view and reply to posts in a discussion but they do not have permisison to create new topics in the discussion. I do not see a permission setting to accomplish this while customizing the site group and am not sure how to go about accomplishing this. I am skilled with programming in .Net so if I need to modify some things it is no problem, but I have no idea where to start or how big of a project this might be if it is even possible.     - Top Menu Bar Hello everyone. We are currently using STS and I am looking at migrating to WSS. Currently in STS I am using frames so I can have a seperate Java menu at the top to link to the many subwebs. Using frames allows the end user to access the menu from any page within sharepoint. I would like to get away from frames and change the current top menu in WSS. I would like to change the top Menu to a drop down menu with custom links and I would like this change on all sharepoint pages and subwebs. Any idea's?     - Performace tuning- URGENT Hi, Can anyone let me know how I can improve on the performance on loading the WSS page. I have two performance issues: 1. The page take a very long time to load for the first time. Also, if there are no hits to the server and when the user tries to hit the server it again takes a long time to load the page. 2. I have a â??Excluded pathâ?? , all the pages from this directory takes longer time to load than the other pages. I have pages where I have a combination of webparts (which loads fast) and asp.net pages (from the extended path) that take a longer time to load.     - Error creatin gnew document WE are using Sharepoint services (not portal) for our website and I have discovered a bug. I cannot create a NEW document in any document library although I can EDIT existing documents. I've done a search on both Google and MS Support and tried the various fixes that I've found, including: repair/reinstall office 2003 enabling sharpoint support in the office 2003 installation manually unregistering and re-registering the sharepoint support dll (this failed btw) any other ideas?     - Error after MS critical updates for August 2006 After the critical updates from MS were installed this month I can no longer successfully click on DESIGN THIS PAGE in a SharePoint site. It takes an error on mshtml.dll which was updated. After removing update KB918899 and rebooting the problem is gone.     - How do I create a Look Up List based on a Calculated Type Field I created an EMPLOYEE list with a FULL NAME field based on =[FIRST NAME]&" "&[LAST NAME]. I also created a VACATION list. I tried to create "lookup" column based on the EMPLOYEE - FULL NAME column. A bunch of other fields in the EMPLOYEE table are visible as possible "lookup" columns, but the FULL NAME column is not.     - Missing Save Password Option On SharePoint Login Client is Windows XP Home Edition with current Microsoft Updates. Client is a member of a local workgroup. Server is Windows 2003 SP1 running WSS 2.0 located in a remote Colocation facility. When connecting to the site, the Client prompts for UserName And Password, but there is no option for saving the UserName and Password. Login is successful but the user must continually reenter credentials. All other Clients at this location have no problems saving their UserName/Passwords. Suggestions????     - FrankM WSS template problem 20060811-001 I'm having a little problem with the command line on the stsadm.exe command. I am trying to "enhance" our project template and load it to use in out test environment. I do not understand the 'Title' part of the command. What is this referring to and what am I attempting to addressing? I did note a comment below stating the Project Workspace template title was the only one available in Project Server 2003. If that is the case, can I confirm that. We are creating templates. We have used the enumtemplates command to list the multiple templates we have created.     - Master/Detail DVWP: New Master search still shows old Detail Hello - I created a pretty simple master/detail setup with two data views going against a SQL database. Master DVWP uses a search box to filter the results, and then clicking each item in the Master filtered list shows the Detail below. However, here's my problem: 1) Load up web page, empty search (no Master list since there is no filter, no Detail shown). 2) Enter search string and do postpack, Master lists A and B. Detail shows A, as it defaults to show the first row. 3) Click "B". Master shows B as selected, Detail shows B. 4) Enter new Master search, do postback, Master lists C and D. Detail still shows B. #4 should have Detail shows C, being the first row in the list. But somehow that doesn't get passed to the Detail after changing the Master filter. If I skip step #3, and never choose an item to display in the detail and always just have it default to the first row, then #4 works as expected. It's only when I manually trigger the web part connection. So my question is how to clear that parameter so that when I re-filter the Master it goes back to passing the first row value to the Detail? I have a single database on this server and I am using SSIS and SSRS on this SQL Server.     - Unable to connect to SharePoint content database error At seemingly random times we get the following error on our SharePoint (WSS, SP2) server.... #50070: Unable to connect to the database CONTENT_DATABASE on SERVER_NAME. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running. I've checked the first two possible issue and OLEDB32.DLL is a higher version that 2.80. Also both the SHarPoint timer service and admin application pool are running under NETWORK SERVICE. An IISREST sures the problem for a day or so. Is anyone else getting this error?     - Remove Create Site Ability What we would like to do is have "Admins" of sites be able to add users but not be able to create subsites. We would like the subsites to be controlled by a higher level admin. What we have found is that if we give a user the ability to add users, they can simply set themselves to an Admin and create sites. If we remove the "Create Site" permission from the WSS Virtual Server settings, no one can add sites. That includes local admins of the portal server, users in the WSS admin group, etc...     - Share email with WSS? Can WSS be used to share email among all users of a Exchange Server? My understanding is that at best, I can only use WSS to share email attachments. This is based on the following quote from the "Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 Administrator's Guide", "Configuring E-Mail-Enabled Document Libraries" topic: "Any documents attached to messages in the public folder can be automatically inserted into the document library, and the document library displays the document, plus the From address, the subject line, and the date and time that the attachment was inserted into the document library. Note that the body text of the e-mail message is not preserved. It remains in the public folder, but is not transferred to the document library." The users really want the *body* of the email to be shared. If my understanding is correct, then it's confusing that MS is trying to move away from Public Folders in lieu of WSS, while at the same time not adding Public Folder features into WSS.     - Sharepoint Permissions Hello, my site is http://shpt/it An authenticated user and a local administrator can add and modify. They are not in any groups, and have no privieleges. There is only 1 user administrator that has administrator rights (in team web site -Manage Users). Why can these 2 modify when they are not in any groups? I then removed domain admins from the local admin account on the SQL server and the users were restricted as i wanted. Is this correct and if so does anyone know why?     - List Templates (again) Time for a new SP? Hi folks, I've saved a comprehensive Contacts list (out-of-the-box Contacts list with extra fields, lookups etc.) as a template, with content. I then saved it as a file on the network, and you can see it has content at 153kb, so you know it kept the content. You can see it in the gallery and the create page ok only because I saved it from the root site. I know it won't be available in the Create page on a sub-site (unless someone knows better; that'd be real cool). Now, my problem is, when I import this list template into another root WSS site, and subsequently create a Contacts list based on that template, it only provides several default fields and no content. :( Disheartening to say the least. (will anyhting ever work the way you want it?? I digress). The original site was overhauled by a consultant (who shall remain nameless) to provide our company with new site templates with our special logoso and jerr-rigged menus, so does this mean the templates are buggered up or ghosted? I can't use FrontPage on these special templated sites as they loose their headers, ie: they're ghosted. Any help or advise on these template matters would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.     - Permissions problem (WSS2) Hi, I thought I posted this earlier, but it seems to have disappeared. Apologies for any duplication. I have a content database served over two websites, one for internal with integrated auth and one for external access with basic auth over ssl (to overcome issues associated with using basic and integrated auth on the same site). Each site has it's own application pool (to allow the recycle bin ISAPI to work on both) running in network service context. I've added a global group to the reader group which works inconsistently. When I log into either website with a user who is a member of this group, most of the time I will be challenged for the username and password, and will eventually get an access denied error. If I thne log in to the site as an admin, then close the browser so that I get prompted to login again, then log back into the site, it then allows me to login as a reader user fine.     - Upload Files Problem Using SPS 3.0 and Vista (maybe too much beta). I've suddenly lost my ability to upload files. When I try to upload a file, and navigate to the Choose File dialog, I only see SharePoint Drafts under my Documents folder. There are files in that folder, but none appear in the Choose File dialog. Other folders not under Documents (Images, Music) show all of their files. I uploaded a file to a different library just the other day, but today this library shows the same behavior when I try to upload. This occurs whether I try to upload one or multiple files.     - Calendar View I have created a calendar view for an event list I loaded using an imported excel file (contains multiple events on various different dates). The import was successful and I have a calendar containing the desired content. However, when I view the calendar, the only column from the event that is displayed (as a link) is the Group column. I am able to click on the link and the event content becomes viewable on another page (but only that event). I would like the calendar to display all of the event's data instead of forcing users to click on the Group link for each event. Is there a setting to either: 1.) View all of the data for each event on the calendar view or 2.) Change the current Group to the Activity Description so I will know what each event is when I look at the entire month calendar view? I have added the list to the Access database as a linked table and when I run my append query, I get an Invalid Internet Address error message. Access Help, provides the following useless explanation: Invalid Internet address. (Error 3651) You have requested an Internet address which is not valid or not available. Check the address, and if it is valid, try again later. Does anyone have any ideas why this would happen? I am an Admin on WSS site, have no problem linking to the list from Access and can manually edit the SharePoint list records from the Access file.     - Word/Excel Docs in Sharepoint For ease of explanation I have 2 documents, an excel document located on my local computer that has hyperlinks setup to point to differing word documents located on a network location. Also, both documents are password protected and can be viewed as read only unless the correct password is given. First Question. I upload the Excel document to a Sharepoint Shared Documents Web Part. When i go into my Excel document the hyperlink I setup to point out to my network location has now been change to look in my shared documents web part. How do i get sharepoint to not update the hyperlinks in my documents when i upload them to sharepoint? Second Question. After noticing that it was trying to look for the word document in the shared documents web part i thought i would place there. I open the excel document and click on the hyperlink to open the linked word document i now have in my shared documents. The document opens just fine. However, when i make changes to the document and go to save it no longer points me to sharepoint but to "My Documents" to save the changes. The only way i can get it to point to sharepoint is if i edit the document directly instead of using the hyperlink. How do i get it to work so that when i click on the hyperlink to open the document within excel and then want to save that document that it saves it back to SharePoint instead of My Documents? We have a website that is using https as an extranet website. When the
manager goes to use web capture web parts, she can not reference anything
that begins with "https://" we get a little nasty red error that states
"Type an address that begins with "http://".". We use MS Dynamics (Great
Plains) Business Portal and I figured out how to get that to work with
https, so I know that MS probably has this hardcoded somewhere. Is there a
fix that anyone knows of to be able to make it where web capture web parts
will work with both http and https? If not does anyone know of a 3rd party
web capture web part that does the same thing, but works with https?

We had the same problem. Internally we allow http over a non standard port
and that works with this web part. I wouldn't recommend that for external
use though.
