    - Sharing private calendar information Hi, I'm new to SharePoint, and I have a scenario that I'm wondering whether SharePoint can help us with. We have a team of 4-5 people working on support of a service. At least one of these people need to be on call at any given time. At the moment they communicate with eachother "manually", dividing time on call by email or phone. We'd like to publish these users' Outlook calendars to one shared calendar, enable all users to view eachothers' availability and reserve time slots for when they're on call. Two of these users are not members of the same domain/Exchange organization. Does SharePoint support this out-of-the-box? If not, are there any web parts available (commercial or freeware) with this functionality? Ideally we would like two-way sync between Outlook and the shared calendar.     - User-changed passwords? Hi, I'm currently setting up Sharepoint site on a shared hosted server (hosted by our network service provider). I am using Sharepoint to create an intranet for 8 people. I have given them permission to access the site by entering their login and the generic password, "ChangeMe". My question is, can the users (I have them at the web designer level) go to the Sharepoint site and change their password to something unique? How do they do this?     - sharepoint services, Lan I have installed sharepoint services on a Small Business Server 2003. I can view the companyweb website from the desktop of the server itself at http://companyweb,. However, I cannot access the website from the Lan. I have tried using the general access of 192.168.1.105/companyweb and it does not work. I can however from 192.168.1.105 I can bring up the Welcom to Windows Business Server 2003, to get started click a link. This will not bring up the companyweb site either. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this companyweb page work in a lan situation? I have established user permissions which at this startup point are all administrator priviledges and have added the network computers to the server. Thank you in advance for your help..     - sql statement for a DataView Hi, everybody! Environment: Windows Server 2003, Windows Sharepoint Services, SQL Server 2000, FP2003 The question I have regards the complexity of the SQL statement the DataView webpart understands. Are there any additional requirements on this statement? Take for example quite a complex statement like the one above. I've got it by modifying the main part of the proc_FetchDocSearchResults stored procedure in one of my content databases. (I'm trying to build a search engine for the portal and I thought I could start the investigation the easy way :-) The server has no problem in returning the set, but FP2003 chokes ("The data source does not contain valid XML data. The server for the data source returned a non-specific error when..." ). Should the statement be XML returning (for xml or something)? By launching a trace I can see that it doesn't even reach the SQL Server. Anybody... suggestions, hints, anything? Thanks in advance.     - Customizing sharepoint site I am having a significant amount of problems trying to edit the default.aspx page in frontpage 2003 of a top level sharepoint site (let alone any site i create in sharepoint). I want to be able to modify what appears in the quick launch and i keep getting this error that says the page cant be displayed because it contains a web part that cannot be considered safe.     - SQL cluster search problems - this may help There have been occasional postings from people who have had problems with performing searches within WSS sites when their databases are running on a SQL cluster. For some people, if they have been using SPS, they have found that the searches work at the portal level but not at the site. It is important to understand that WSS searches are conducted using the fulltext indexing capability of SQL Server, whereas the portal search capability works in a very different manner. I too have had the problem outlined above and, with the assistance of Microsoft PSS, got to the bottom of the problem. I am sharing this solution with everyone in case it helps. Your mileage may vary - your symptoms may not match exactly and so the solution I'm going to give may not solve your problem. The steps we went through were: * Check that Microsoft Search service is installed. This is listed in the Services control panel applet. If it isn't listed, it hasn't been installed. It was already installed on both of my nodes. * Check the output from SELECT fulltextserviceproperty('IsFulltextInstalled'). If you get "1" back, SQL believes that the service is up and running properly. If you get "0", it isn't. In my case, it was working when I migrated the cluster service group over to node A, but it didn't work when it was on node B. For reasons I won't go into, I was using node B by default. The next steps were to try to spot the differences between the two nodes. I was asked to check the following: 1) Make sure the below registry are the same between two nodes: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Search HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSSEARCH 2) Make sure the DLLs are with the same version in the below folders: \Program Files\Common Files\System\MSSearch \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\COM \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn 3) Register the below DLLs: \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn\SQLFTQRY.dll \WINNT\CLUSTER\GATHERCL.DLL \Program Files\Common Files\System\MSSearch\Bin\*.DLL Step (1) may reveal some differences if you've got service groups that are one node but not all of them. This was so in my case, but the majority of the registry keys were identical. Step (2) is a bit daunting because of the number of DLLs involved. It may help to remember that if you change the window display to "Details", you can then customise the columns to include the file version, thus making it easy to compare. I did find some DLL differences: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn sqlftqry.dll - 2000.80.760.0 (was 2000.80.194.0) ssmsgnet.dll - 2000.80.382.0 (was 2000.80.194.0) C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\COM cnv6x70.dll - 2000.80.760.0 (was 2000.80.194.0) sqlfth75.dll - 2000.80.760.0 (was 2000.80.194.0) I copied those over and then went through step (3). This is done with regsvr32. For some of them, I got an error - DllRegister Server entry point was not found - but PSS said this was OK. After all that, I move the service group from node B to node A (the working node) and then back again. I then used the SQL query and confirmed that it was returning "1" to indicate that fulltext was working. Finally, I went into SharePoint, turned off full text indexing and then turned it back on again. After waiting for a short while, I performed a search in a WSS site and it worked! I hope the above helps some of you. I would reiterate that your mileage may vary. If you have got Software Assurance with either your SQL Server licence or your SharePoint Portal Server licence, you may be able to take advantage of online support through the Software Assurance benefit.     - How to mirror/sync docs folder on WSS site? Hi, I'm looking for a nice folder mirroring proggie that will allow me : 1. Mirroring my documents folders on the sharepoint site. 2. In a way that just download the updates = syncing with the local dirs on my computer. Anyone might know of a specific tool that works good with it ? All replicator/synchoniser/backuppers proggies don't work - they just can't recognize the web folders of sharepoint in "my network places". iOra and DocAve aren't suitable as well as they are for servers. To add users you would have to have admin rights (or permissions to add users) on the site, so your webservice would have to use impersonation to impersonate the user (who has rights) accessing the webservice.     - Frontpage 2002 Sharepoint Template Hi I would like to use the Frontpage 2002 Sharepoint template to develop our intranet site. Our server is Microsoft Server 2003 I realise I need to get Windows Sharepoint Services configued on this server. 50% of our staff are located around NZ and connect via a VPN to our network. My questions: The reason I choose this template is my understanding that I get Sharepoint functionality for free (well almost) as my understanding is I do not need a licence to use this template. My understanding is that I do not need a Server 2003 External Connector License as our "external staff" will logon to our network (where the intranet will sit) via a vpn - is this correct?     - REPOST: IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode & SharePoint I upgraded a W2K server to W2K3. It functions pretty much as a web server. I tried to install WSS and it told me I had to turn off IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode. So I did an all the other sites on the server (there are 4 others) all are asking for a username and password. Today I tried to create an ASP.NET web application and got this error: Unable to creat Web Project 'WebApplication1'.     - Internet Explorer and Office Integration I have IE 6.1 and all security patches installed. I have Office 2003 installed. I am using Outlook 2003/Exchange 2003 for email. When I access my newly created Sharepoint 2.0 site and try to upload Contacts IE complains that I do not have an address book compatible with Windows Sharepoint Services and Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater. When I try to Edit documents with Word 2003 IE complains that I do not have a Windows Sharepoint Services compatible application and Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater.     - Help with automatic sites creation Hi, Im working with Sps2003/Windows Server 2003. I have a structure that looks like this : http://myServer/ (sps2003) http://myServer/sites/site1 (wss) http://myServer/sites/site2 (wss) http://myServer/sites/site3 (wss) http://myServer/sites/site4 (wss) http://myServer/sites/site5 (wss) http://myServer/sites/site6 (wss) ... All the sites are exactly the same except for the content. The site Groups are the same, the users are the sames, etc. If i want to create a new site (http://myServer/sites/site10), I create the new site (from the portal) based on a template created from "site1". The problem is that the site groups and the users arent imported... So I have to add them manually every times... I'm trying to figure a way to do all this automatically. Here's my ideas : Idea 1 : Create a custom ASPX page that could be called from the portal when I want to create a new site. In that page I would have the same fields that the default Site creation page have and in the code behind I would automatically create the site and all the site groups and users. (maybe copying them from "Site1") Idea 2 : Create everything from the command prompt with STSADM. "Stsadm -o createsite", "Stsadm -o adduser", etc. But I have "Permissions" set in lists and I don't think you can modify that with STSADM. Idea 3 : Use an already created application that do all that... Idea 4 : Use Stsadm -o backup from "site1" and Stsadm -o restore to "site10". I don't think I can do that.     - Content in columns in a doc lib erase I have several hundred files that are updated regularly in a document library. Each document library has several columns in the library containing content that has been manually added to the fields (that is not in the properties of the file). When a document is uploaded with the same file name it overwrites the existing, however, the content in the columns associated with that file is erased. This was not the case in the old version of WSS (STS). The content is overwritten whether I click upload document or copy and paste the new documents into explorer from my hard drive. The issue persists if the settings of the library are, to create a version each time the file is edited, or not. A work around or any advice to resolve this issue is appreciated.     - Cannot import contacts Needless to say, I'm new to sharepoint and have no clue what i'm doing. Running WSS and Outlook 2003 -Go to Contacts page -Click Import Contacts -Popup window appears for me to select users to import from my global address list -Select a user and click OK -->nothing happens. Accelerator for Proposals msproposals.asmx failed to connect I am trying to setup the MS Accelerator For Proposals on a WSS server and when I use the Word 2003 to connect to the sample document, all I get in the Document Action pane is the Failed to Connect error message. In the Build and Test Guide troubleshooting section that comes with the MSAFp it says to remove a <webServices> section from the Web.Config localed in \program files\Microsoft Solutions\Information Worker\Proposals\MsProposals.     - List items disappear and reappear I converted a list to XSLT view, and now it's behaving wildly. When I mouse over an item in the list, the font size grows. When I move the mouse away from the item, it disappears from the page. If I move my mouse back to the blank space, it reappears again.     - WSPS and X.509 mapped accounts I'm new to WSPS, but I can't seem to find an answer to this question. Argh. I'm got WSPS running and SSL works. But, I want to require users to present an X509 certificate to login with INSTEAD OF basic auth. SSL is working fine and I have enabled anonymous access BUT required SSL and certificates. Users still getting prompted for credentials. In looking at the logs, I see that the 401 is getting generated for /default.aspx, which doesn't exist in the root folder of the site in question (I'm guessing that's because some filter has remapped that the ASPX extension). Hi, there is a way to allow a user to access diocument libraries content through webdav + HTTPS in internet explorer? by default, sharepoint detect this and display an error message to the user, also, if the user try to add manually the https site in its favorites (a favorites network), Windows disallow this. Through standard HTTP all works fine, but its not secure.     - IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode & SharePoint I posted this question in the STS forum not realizing that is where I was. So sorry about this. Anyway, I upgraded a W2K server to W2K3. It functions pretty much as a web server. I tried to install WSS and it told me I had to turn off IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode. So I did an all the other sites on the server (there are 4 others) all are asking for a username and password. I turn it back to IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode and the sites are fine. Any ideas?     - Customization of search box I have a WSS site that I've been trying to customize the colors/theme. I've been referencing the resources at www.sharepointcustomization.com My problem is that I'm trying to change the color of the search box on the default home page by changing the ms.searachform style. this works fine, with the exception of what appears to be a small gif just to the left of the search box.     - programattically change List permissions When I programattically create a document library using Microsoft.Sharepoint.SPWeb, I would also like to assign permissions to that list. The SPList class doesn't seem to have any methods or properties for changing Users or Groups. SPWeb has a Groups property which returns an SPGroup object, but that seems to be related to the Web and not a specific List. What object do I use to assign permissions to a list? Thanks.     - Recurring Events through Web Service I am in search of a simple solution for displaying recurring events from the list web service. Currently, normal event data is easily retrieved with fieldref names such as Title, Description, EventDate, and EndDate. However, recurring events seem to be trickier. I was hoping that the web service would have some query option element that automatically expands recurring events based on the recurrence definition, but that seems to be missing. Upon querying the web service for list items, I have found an fRecurrence field (-1 for recurring, 0 for normal), and a RecurrenceData field that returns something along the lines of: <recurrence><rule><firstDayOfWeek>su</firstDayOfWeek> <repeat><daily dayFrequency='1' /></repeat> <windowEnd>2004-08-27T04:40:00Z</windowEnd></rule></recurrence> Does anyone know of a solution that will give me all occurrences without requiring me to parse the RecurrenceData? It seems a little bizarre that a common request such as "give me today's events" would not made more trivial, or that you might have to pull down and evaluate every recurring event every time you wanted to make this request.     - Setting the default times for an events list Does anyone know if it is possible to set the default time frame for new events in a wss events list? We have offices in two different time zones and when events such as vacations extend over multiple days an extra day is tacked on based on which time zone you are viewing the event in.     - Sharepoint development - help finding sharepoint resources I have been building web applications using VS.NET for a long time and have built up a good sized library of custom controls. Over the last few days I have been working on migrating/adding these controls to sharepoint aspx pages and some custom web parts. However my development has been quite slow going and I've started to become frustrated with the "developer experience" in the sharepoint technologies. When I add code that breaks something it takes me a long time to find and fix the problem - I believe it's mostly because of my lack of familiarity with sharepoint. Here are my specific troubles: 1) Error messages & finding specific debugging/error information - every time something breaks it seems that I get one of 3+ standard error messages. (For example "Control not registered as safe", "Required permissions cannot be acquired" and "unknown error"). I have found that these messages often do not include very detailed information and sometimes do not even correspond to the true problem. I have tried using the application event logs on the server - but it seems that only 30% of the errors I am causing in the web application are thrown to the application level and are logged. Either way I have found that this is not a reliable place for me to find debugging and error information 70% of the time. I also have not found a way to turn CustomErrors off (I have set <customErrors mode="off" /> in my web.config files but I still get the same canned responses from sharepoint). What is the standard practice of getting error or debugging information when modifying sharepoint aspx pages - is there a log somewhere I don't know about, better tools, closer integration with VS.NET, etc? 2) CAS - right now it's really slowing down my development efforts (in all honesty it might not be - I am getting lots of "web part or control not registered as safe" errors however because of question #1 - I don't have a way of know if they are truly non-CAS errors - which is my suspicion). Is t here a reasonable way to "disable" code access security on my development servers and I can worry about it when it comes time to deploy? I have already tried elevating web part permissions to full (<trust level="Full" originUrl="" />) for the entire sharepoint virtual server - however I still get lots of the "control not safe" message. I know disabling CAS is not ideal - however I would rather respond to my customer's needs ASAP. I have already spent too much time just trying to get my validated and fully tested custom controls loading on the aspx pages. 3) Detailed examples of advanced development and debugging on sharepoint sites. Unlike other .NET development I have done I have no way of getting "under the hood" and see what's going on when a sharepoint aspx page is requested. I have yet to find any really good examples on the web other than "Introduction to web parts" (etc) examples. I downloaded the Sharepoint SDK (hoping for something along the lines of the DirectX 9.0 SDK - full of applications and sample code) and all I found was a help document. I also have bought the three books I could find on sharepoint 2003 - unfortunately (while two do contain a few chapters on how to build and debug a "hello world" web part) these are not of much help to me and are mostly sharepoint administrator's manuals. What do developers use as an advanced programming reference for sharepoint aspx pages and web parts? I apologize I know these questions are pretty open ended and kind of bleed together - but I would like to see what other sharepoint developers do and what references they use. I have a user that is trying to open a document by using the "Edit in
Microsoft Office Word." However, SharePoint would hang when she does this.
It happens to all documents. She does have Office 2003 installed and is in
the correct group, as a Cotributor, Reader. I don't think it's a permission
issue. Has anyone seen this problem before?
