    - Super-slim site definition? Anyone know how slim you can get the site definition down to? I'm trying to build a sitedef with basically a single page and very little configuration. Basically a wss starter that would create a valid site but nothing much but a single page and some sharepoint properties. I've been trying various approaches like taking the STS one and removing bits and pieces but every once in awhile the whole thing blows up. I'm thinking something along the lines of just having ONET.XML and a default.aspx page (and the WEBTEMPxxx.XML file) but not sure what that looks like and what's mandatory as far as the schema goes (and it's a PITA to keep resetting IIS to see if I have enough).     - Integrate CruiseControl with Sharepoint? I have an off-site developer who will need to upload a ZIP file to our Sharepoint server containing updated source code. Sharepoint seems to be putting this into SQL server but I would like to store the file in the file system. Why? Because I want CruiseControl to watch that directory for uploads and then automatically launch the build process using the newly uploaded file.     - Templates Hello All, We wanted to add a button to lists that currently exist in a few site collections we have. I modified the SCHEMA.XML files of the underlying lists so that the button shows up (yes we know this can get stomped by an SP). All was going well when I noticed that some sites did not show the button. Part of the reason of modifying the SCHEMA.XML files in the STS directory was to make sure the button showed up everywhere. A little bit of checking and it turns out that these sites are based on a template site that I believe was taken prior to the changes in the SCHEMA.XML files in the STS directory. My guess is that this is why they do not show up on these sites. So, I pulled the template out and started exploring the manifest.xml file. It appears to have a copy of the contents of all (?) the schema.xml files. Am I really on the right path here? Does anyone know if I edit this and then push it back into the central template gallery, will the button appear on existing lists of sites created from this template? Also, is it possible to extract a template from the central template gallery?     - adduser command-line errors I am a newbie to WSS and would appreciate help. I have a single server installation with working sites in the admin virtual server. I have also extended a second virtual server and created a sites successfully there as well. I am utilizing Active Directory so I need to add users via the command-line. This is where I am having trouble. I am wondering if I am not entering the correct path syntax for the â??url parameter. QUESTIONS: 1. What is the default path for the admin virtual server and other extended virtual servers? 2.     - why are these files created in C:\Windows\Temp? On our WSS server, I see about 50 files created per day in the C:\Windows\Temp directory and they appear to be related to WSS.     - New domain-after a couple of weeks 1 user can´t access the companyweb- SBS2003! Hi all, I have recently set up a new domian for a customer, this with a SBS 2003 Premium with ISA 2000.At first all worked like charm, now after approx 2 weeks they have one user who can´t access the sharepoint companyweb, he only get´s the "white page" which says can´t find companyweb.Also on the DC itself the administrator get´s to the loginpage when trying to access the same companyweb site. I have checked and compared security settings for this users with all other users that can access companyweb and nothing is different. Also compared settings/security on the companyweb site in IIS with other SBS installations I have done, and all seems the same. Anyone who knows what I shall look for in my path to solve this?? We have a long list of U.S. partners who host SPS implementations, but I'm not familiar with most of their reputations.     - Update On Browser Caching and Edited Web Pages .mht Hi, When a single file web page .mht is edited then saved a user will still see the old data if the page is in the IE temp files. I've done some testing to find ways to alleviate this. This only happens if the edited file is the first one the user goes to in the document library after the update. For instance file A is edited and saved. A user had opened file A before the edit and then hit the back button to go back to the document library. If they now open file A they see the old data until they hit refresh. Or if they go back to the document library and open file B then open file A they see the new data in file A without having to hit refresh. Seems the code runs to requery the database if the edited file was not the last file the user displayed. MS probably did this to decrease the response time. It would be nice if they recoded to always run the query or give the admin an option to always run the query for web pages. You can also set IE to empty the cache when the browser is closed. We don't have a lot of users accessing a lot of web pages where they need the cache so we can take the small performance hit.     - How to list the sites set up on a server? Is there a way that I can list all of the sites set up on a virtual server? I have taken over responsibility for this sharepoint server and know there are a bunch of sites set up, but I can't seem to list what they are. I think there are a bunch set up for testing that I want to get rid of, but I don't see an option to list them to show which one to delete.     - This is a tough 1 - Authentication prompt I have a 1 user who is prompted for authentication using a domain account when accessing a sharepoint site. This individual has successfully logged on previously without the logon prompt coming up. Although, even though he is promted for authentication, if you hit cancel, the homepage still comes up, and the user is bombarding with continous prompts. He are more details: This user does not have this issue from other machines. On the problem machine, I do not have the issue when I log in. (Profile specific) I have deleted all of the Temporary Internet files though the command prompt. I have Clear Passwords within Internet Options.     - Files linked to workspace sometimes unlink I've got a document workspace that has grown over the course of the project, and now some of the links between local copies of files and the workspace have broken. I can't re-add the documents through the Office Shared Workspace task pane because there are too many files in the workspace for Word to display in the task pane. If I open the file from SharePoint, then try to save it to locally, Word no longer asks if I want to link to the shared copy. I've got three questions: What is the maximum number of files in a workspace? Is there any way to restore links after this happens? Is this by design or a bug? Recreated the Config database "SharePoint" and pointed it to the existing Content database "STS_CSTORESERVER_1".     - Unable to create asp.net web project in vs.net I was able to create asp.net project using Visual Studio.NET 2003 till yesterday. Late yesterday i have installed Microsoft Sharepoint Services and BizTalk 2004 Server. Now when I create a new asp.net project using VS.NET I am getting the following error, "Web Access Fail" error. and I get this: Unable to create Web project 'XXXX'. I would love to have a feature on our SharePoint internal site where employees can toggle whether they are in the office or out (preferably on the front page).     - Do NOT Map a Network Drive to SharePoint Libraries Recently Mike Walsh posted this in regards to a question asked if files were stored in 2 locations. I"ve tried the below and can successfuly see my documents in the IE interface as well as the Explorer mapped drive view by using the following: local harddrive Net use X: \\servername\xxx\doclib where http://servername/xxx/doclib/AllItems.aspx is the web address. Then X: contains all the same files as are actually stored in the WSS database for that doc lib. You should I suspect amend them only using the WSS UI though. Issue: Mike is right. There's 3 ways to view your shared documents. 1) View via the SharePoint UI 2) Map a network drive 3) Map a web folder Wanna see something neat? Try this: Take a test document and upload it to the shared folders. Edit it: 1) In the SharePoint UI. Save it. It's fine right? 2) Map a Web Folder. Edit it. Save. Still fine. 3) Map a Network drive. Edit it. Save. Gone. What? That's right. If you EDIT the document in a mapped network drive, which you will see the folders and files, you save it, it says OKAY and then it's gone. This does not happen with a mapped web folder or the SharePoint UI. But for some reason, it allows you to map a network folder but editing the documents that way is really a bad idea. I'm looking for some kind of shadow folder functionality where the local/network files are always the same as the latest version in a sharepoint documentlibrary.     - Error Message when Saving from Word 2003 One of my developers has an issue when she does the following Navigates to a file on WSS Checks the file out Open the file from the website Edits the files Attempts to save changed file, she gets the following message. http://'sitename/filename.doc' cannot be accessed. The file may not exist or may be in use or the web server is temporarily busy. We only have this issue on her machine, it is a new XP Sp2 build, with Office 2003.     - page viewer web part form results page won't work We want to put a short form on the home page where the user enters about three pieces of information and clicks Submit, with the results being sent to an admin via e-mail. So I created a page called form1.htm in front page that has the simple form. On the form properties, they are set to send via e-mail and display a custom "thank you" confirmation page (which we also created in frontpage and named thanks.htm). I then added a Page Viewer Web Part to the home page and set it to display form1.htm. The form seems to work properly and e-mail the results as intended, but it won't display the custom confirmation page. Instead it displays the default confirmation page that normally displays if you leave that field blank. It's the one that says "Form Confirmation. Thank you for submitting the following informaiton..." Is there a way to make the confirmation page display, or perhaps another solution?     - Very abnormal password/username prompting Hello everybody! First of all excuse me for not beeing very good in writing English. I'm installing and building a WSS-site with subsites as a traineeship for my school. This WSS-site (WSS, SBS2003, WMSDE) is build at a company. I'm going pretty good until some of the collegues got some weird problems. First of all I will describe the part of the WSS-site I made: It's a documentlibrary with a couple of WSS pages with webparts in it. I wanted to make a intranetsite that when people clicked on it it would look like a normal page and not a WSS page. I made it in Frontpage 2003. Now when you look at the Home page you can click and direct go to this page. I have made 2 of this kind of pages. 1. The problems I've now after implementation have come up with is that some employees get, when they click on this link to go to that page, three times prompted to fill in their username and password. When they click cancel the first time, they can just view the pages. These employees have all installed SP2. The employees that can just reach the pages without the prompted window to fill in their username and password have all installed SP1. I know the problem is most likely in SP2 but I don't how to fix it. The weird thing is that on the second set of pages I created, the problems don't occur??????? 2. The pages described above have also got another problem: the same users (with SP2) can't view pages that are through a link are displayed in an iFrame. This seems to be a WSS programming question (assuming you want to know how
to add errorlogging to web parts *you* are writing).

if so please post it to the sub newsgroup for WSS programming questions at

microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices.development

instead of to this main newsgroup for mainly administration issues.

(Please post only there so we can maintain a clear split between what
