    - Linking webparts in sharepoint What webpart do I use to control the data that goes to other webparts? I have a custom list that I use to provide data to several pivot charts and pivot table. I would like to insert another webpart that will allow me to filter the information that is seen on the pivot chart.     - SPView RenderAsHtml Small Fonts I am attempting to use the RenderAsHtml to render a View of the "Shared Documents" List. I have tried all of the views available and in every case the resulting font size is very small, so as not to be readable. I also tried to generate a custom view from inside WSS, but it was also rendered with the tiny fonts. The fonts are fine with the generic document part. I can post this in the development section but was first wondering if anyone had experienced this and if possibly a custom view is what is needed to fix the issue.     - problem migrating data I am moving servers while upgrading to SP3 I have the new server setup and using the technet docs step by step... I'm on the last page http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/3fc0177c-b364-4a1b-b3af-4c5560afe50c1033.mspx?pf=true and have my content databases copied from my old v2 server, and I'm running the below command with my files specifics punched in, but after I hit enter and type Go and enter again, nothing happens.     - RSS Feeds WSS 2007 RTW I tried to use the RSS webpart to read an announcment list on the same SharePoint site. I had the following errors: 1. "Subscribe to this RSS Feed" generates a 404 error, not being able to find "/_layouts/listfeed.aspx". 2. Pasting the RSS feed link into the webpart RSS reader OR into a Windows client RSS reader, neither can read the feed. 3. The webpart RSS reader does work fine with external feeds.     - Solution for Required Title for Document Library Uploading in Sharepoint 2003 Found on http://gpeiris.blogspot.com/2006/05/display-title-field-when-uploading.html Modifying SharePoint to Make Document Titles mandatory In SharePoint sites there is a default title field that is created whenever you create or upload a document in a Document Library. There are multiple issues with this field. 1. Whenever you upload a document, the title field is not available to put information into. By default whatever is in the document's properties Title field will be uploaded. 2. The Title is not a required field. To fix above problems: The title field is defined in the SCHEMA.xml file for the document library type. Open this file from \1033\sts\lists\doclib locate the line(s): <Fields> <Field Type="Text" Name="Title" ShowInNewForm="FALSE" ShowInFileDlg="FALSE" DisplayName="Title" Sealed="TRUE"></Field></Fields> You will want to change the ShowInNewForm to TRUE to get it to display in the web UI, ShowInFileDLG to TRUE for the browse-using-Office UI. To make it required simply add Required="TRUE" Another perk is that this resolves the issue of when a list is linked to a document library lookup and only the Title or ID columns are available for the user to select documents. Visio files that are uploaded to a document library do not have the Edit in Visio option in the drop down beside the document name. There is the "Edit in xxxx" option for project, word, excel.     - Get Selected Value From <Select> object Hi, I have reference to a <select> object in a new item list form. i.e. var s = document.forms[0].elements["urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office#Quality_x0020_Issue_x0020_Group"]; However I am unable to determine what value has been selected in the drop down. Normal DOM would be s.options[s.selectedValue].text However this does not work. Using script debugger i have found that to get to the <Select> element i must traverse way down the tree to find the selected option. Is there no easy way to get the selected value from a drop down?     - Failed Upgrade From WSS 2.0 to 3.0 - Log Info Enclosed Hi, On a Win2k3 SP1 server running version of WSS 2.0 sp2 an upgrade to WSS v.3.0 failed. I ran the .net 3.0 install, ran "prescan /all" (extracted from sharepoint.exe on separate computer). Upon running the Configuration Wizard I get the following (from Update.log). ( I ran the wizard several times as the original error said a connection to the configuration DB was active - this is from the last run of the wizard. Any assistance would be appreciated.     - Installing Sharepoint Service 3.0 Hi, I am trying to install WSS 3.0 on Server 2003 OS. My C drive is compressed except for the SQL server installation folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server) When installing WSS 3.0 the installtion fails while installing database. I traced the error logs and found out that the database is being installed in some folder under C:\Windows which is not compressed and hence failing as the SQL server can not be installed on compressed folders. Can anyone help in letting me know under which folder, the database gets installed by default and is there any option to change this location so that all my database folders are in one place (SQL server installtion folder)?     - Adding Trusted Users Hi, I'm able to add trusted users from another domain thru the "Manager User" window. What I'd like to do is to be able search trusted users in "Select users and groups -- Web Page Dialog" window. Thru this window, Sharepoint can only search the users in the local domain. Is there a setup in Sharepoint to enable selecting users from a trusted domain? Can the "aclinv.aspx", "userPicker.aspx" (and others) be modified to search and select trusted domain users? Another way I'm looking at this is to create a Active Directory webpart to display trusted users, select users and add them to a site. Any help is certainly appreciated. A sample code would be nice.     - Sharepiont Services 3.0 upgrade So I upgraded our Sharepoint server 2.0 running sql 2005 to Sharepoint Services 3.0. It has been a difficult due to the fact documentation is poor. I have mostly everything working except the search function for the site. When I try to search I get the following error: "Your search cannot be completed because this site is not assigned to an indexer. Contact your administrator for more information."     - Lookup (Choice) field for 'People and Groups' in WSS 3.0 I may be missing something- Is there a way to return a choice pull-down list of people (users)via a lookup? The current way to populate the 'Assigned To' field in Tasks is very kludgy even though the 'People and Groups' is implemented much better in WSS 3.0.     - "Allow all authenticated users to access site" is disabled Hi, We have a WSS implementation. For almost all the sites, for 'All Authenticated Users', "Allow all authenticated users to access site" is set to No and the radio button is enabled but for one site, it is set to Yes and the radio button is disabled! Is it some WSS feature that once we set the radio button to Yes, it gets disabled and cannot be set back to No?     - Excel sheet using a Sharepoint List is broken since URL has change Hi, I got a department where they used the Export to spread sheet to build a huge excel workbook. Since that, the Network admin decided to move the whole Portal to SSL. Since that, the excel sheet cannot refresh with the portal because it does not find it anymore. Because the URL has changed.     - Sharepoint 3.0 Drop Down Menus not showing. I have installed the latest Sharepoint 3.0 on one of my Window 2003 server machines. The drop down menus do not display they will flash up then disappear leaving a white box where they were. This happens in the Sharepoint sites and the administration sites. Also I installed dotnet framework 3.0 because the current version of 3.0 requires it. I have noticed that none of the sites in the sharepoint install user 3.0.     - Cannot Select View from Document Library List I created 5 views for 12 projects within the same document library. I have a total of 60 views. Is there is way select the view I cannot see for the document library webpart? I can see all views in the quick launch panel when I access the document library.     - Gather usage stats programmatically I'm trying to gather usage stats programmatically but having problems. I'm using the site.GetUsageData function, and it returns data if I specify the last date as today, but when I change the last Date parameter so that it occurs a few days in the past, the program just 'hangs' with the CPU at 100% - I've let it run 20 or 30 minutes and it never returns. I'm doing this on a dev server, against a site with very little usage, but the result is the same on a production server. in Prod, I've had to do IIS reset to regain control of the server, as it eventually quits serving pages. I'm using the function like this; site.GetUsageData(SPUsageReportType.user,SPUsagePeriodType.lastMonth ,1,DateTime.Now.AddDays(-days)) What I want to do is specify as the 'last date' the beginning of last month - then run this report several times specify a new 'last date' value. Front Page returns the data really quickly, so I know it is there and it shouldn't take so long. But, turning the FrontPage data into useful reports on 200+ sites is just too time consuming.     - Migration from 3.0 TR2 to Final Hello, I attempted the migration from TR2 to Final and low and behold it didn't work and totally hosed my env. No a huge deal as it was my dev and in VMWare. I went ahead and just created a fresh env with the WSS 3.0 Final release and everything in that works fine. Is there any way to back up the sites from my TR2 and restore to Final instead of trying to do the upgrade of TR2 to Final?     - Sharepoint and Active Directory I am having strange problems of users not having access to sharepoint suddenly. How can I make sure the settings are correct for proper replication between active directory and sharepoint? For instance, I create a new user in active directory on our exchange server. I give them membership in the proper groups that are suppose to give access to sharepoint. These are groups that users who are successfuly able to connect to sharepoint are in. The new user is able to connect to all of our other servers but Sharepoint rejects them. I am new to replication and active directory... any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!     - WSS 2.0 I want to restrict user to 1 site- I allow annonym access In the rights, I only see adding reader, contributor etc but nothing denying a user to the entire portal. I wish to create a site and allow a few users to access only that site and not the others.     - Restrict Anonymous Access to view while still allowing to add to a list? We've developed a full site in IIS with Sharepoint services (WSS 2003) and it works great. However, one of our lists stores confidential information submitted by the public(anonymous). We set permissions to allow anonymous access to add items and it works fine. However, View Items is required for the add items options to be enabled. So in essence, anyone can open an item and view it. Is there any way to restrict anonymous access to a list so they can't view items but they can still add items?     - WSS Search, Ghosting, and Upgrade to v3 Bear with me on this one; any feedback is highly appreciated to give me an idea of where I'm at. We have an installation of SPS and WSS on a server farm here. SQL 2005 backend. Before I began work on this project, the decision was made to use the SharePoint SDK to create pages programatically; we have a link from the site definitions where users can go in to create or delete pages outside of the out-of-the-box SharePoint functionality. The program creates a new folder with the page's name and a default.aspx page within that folder for the new page, created with the site definition. We got rid of the quick launch bar and added our own navigation that scans the directory structure and makes a nice little dynamic DHTML dropdown for navigation throughout the WSS site. Pages are not stored within a document library; they exist within the root of each WSS site in the "filesystem," parallel to (for example) the "Lists" folder. I began migrating pages one-by-one from our legacy ASP-based intranet solution, mostly by copying and pasting content and moving documents over...essentially re-creating the old intranet in SharePoint. As for my issues... 1.) WSS does not index the ASPX pages that we create, since the pages are not Web Part Pages that are stored inside of a document library. Nearly all content is in Content Editor Web Parts within the SDK-created pages. What's the best attack for WSS searching? Can these pages be indexed with WSS, or will I need to redirect the search to point at SPS search (which DOES index these pages)? Any best practices? 2.) What's the real deal with changing site definitions after the site has been deployed? Impossible, other than going through each page individually and making the desired change? 3.) Is there a definitive answer on Frontpage and unghosting? I've found several different answers on this subject. To migrate from our old solution, I created WSS sites using SharePoint, and would then open the site from FrontPage to make changes to the pages, since it was so much quicker (I've had to migrate thousands of pages). So is every FrontPage-created page unghosted? What's the impact of this...I lose the "master page" functionality? 4.) Will an upgrade to 2007 be painful, given our customized page creation solution? Do unghosted pages migrate badly, or not at all? Thank you for any help on any of the questions; my Google-fu has been failing me as of late because of the complexity.     - Login when editing document in word Hi, I have just upgraded to Office 2007 which has had the effect, that when opening a document from my Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 libraries - I'm promted for username/password 3 times. THis attribute has space as delimeter. Since you column name and you value can also have space; the selected delimeter causes problems. How to get the correct information.     - Workflows are missing in version 3 upgrade? I have upgraded my wss site to version 3, and want to play around with the new workflow features, but can't seem to find them anywhere. The documentation says that the Issue Tracking library has a 3-state workflow defined for it, but couldn't seem to find that. I then found an article that says you need to enabled Routing Workflows by going to Site Actions > Site Settings and then clicking Site Collection Features under the Site Collection Administration heading. Problem is, I can't find a Site Collection Administration heading, and definitely can't find a Site Collection Features link. When I view any Site Settings page for any web (top-level or subweb), I only see four categories: Users and permission, Look and Feel, Galleries and Site Administration. I read in the documentation that you can add the 3-state workflow to any custom list that has a 3-value choice column to it, but you need to enable it by going to the List Settings and clicking the Workflow settings link under the Permissions and Management category.     - Secure Lists and Document Stores I am a business executive developing WSS sites for my company. I am not a technical expert. Is there a way that documents and data stored in lists and libraries can be set up so that the Site Administrator cannot access them? I am aware that we can password protect individual documents but this is cumbersome. We would be OK with a solution where the administrator can re-issue a password to a user to access the site but we need to have access restricted to the authorised user only. When users access WSS 3 sites, they are prompted for their user name and
password. Once logged into the site if the user access documents using the
sahred documents web part, it prompts for user name and password again.
What do I need to do to utilize the user's windows credentials. i.e., since
I am logged into my PC, why can't it just pass the credentials on to
sharepoint?
