creating multiple wikis - sharepoint
Hi,
I have 3 queries on Sharepoint
1) is it possible to do create multiple wikis at a single time(i.e. if i
want to upload multiple wikis, can i i do using data sheets etc..)
2) when using search functionality in List libraries it returns the whole
library rather than a specific article. For eg. if i have a 100 articles in a
list library & am searching for a particular article, is there a way to do it
using the search functionality
3) is there a way to migrate data from list libraries to wiki format
Any pointers in this direction would be hepful Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67379
Unable to assign a new task item to a SharePoint group via Workflow
Using SharePoint Designer I've created a simple Workflow associated with a
Document Library.
The Workflow can be manually started from any document, and it creates a new
item in a Tasks list.
The Workflow completes succesfully if the new task is assigned to a specific
user.
The Workflow fails if the new task is assigned to a SharePoint group.
The Status is "Error Occurred" and the Workflow History lists the following:
7/17/2008 12:27 PM Error System Account Error updating a list item Unknown
error
7/17/2008 12:27 PM Error System Account An error has occured in Workflow
1.
A new task assigned to a SharePoint group can be created manually via the
web interface, so I'm not sure why it will not work via a Workflow.
Any help is appreciated, thanks! Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67375
Combine Lists
Hello,
I am fairly new to SharePoint and am wondering if someone could point
me in the general direction.
I have two lists, with some columns. This is working fine so far...
People List
Name
Cell
Sites
Site Name
Site Phone
People (linked to above)
But, I would like a view, so we can view the Site list, which also
includes the Person Cell Phone. So for example, the columns would
look like:
Sites
Site Name
Site Phone
People (this is a link to the "People List")
Persons Cell (displayed will be the cell phone for the person in
this record)
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Content types based on 2007 word template that uses Building Blocks
Hello -
I'm trying to deploy a content type in WSS that's based on a 2007 Word
document template. The .dotx file has standard content in it and I
created a bunch of Building Blocks that I hoped would save directly to
the template. I uploaded the template to sharepoint and linked it to
the content type. I enabled that Content type in a document library
and had some users create a new document with that content type. Users
report the custom Building Blocks aren't available in the docs they
create. Does anyone know how to get the Building Blocks to transfer
with the dotx. template?

sharepoint migration
Hi all,
I need to move sharepoint 2007 and Project Web Access to a new server.
SP01 - current sharepoint server. Windows 2003 SP2, SQL 2005 9.0.3068
SP02 - new sharepoint server. Windows 2003 SP2, SQL 2005 0.0.3068
I have backed up the original server and have installed sharepoint on
the new server. Does anyone know a way to move sharepoint and PWA from
SP01 to SP02?
I have tried moving the database from one server to the next with no
joy.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Append task using Access query
What is the secret to appending the Assigned To: field of a task?
I have an Access append query that is successfully appending
everything else to a task list except for the Assigned To: field. I
tried using the UserInfo ID and also the name string. Neither has
worked. I get no error. Everything else posts but the Assigned To:
is left blank. Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67367

MachineName\UserName transfer on restore?
I am restoring a client's database from the test environment to the
production environment. The server names are completely different. However,
all the usernames include the servername of the test server.
I restored the WSS3.0 site successfully, but all my SharePoint users still
have the old machine name in front of their username.
Is there some global update I can do to replace the old machine name with
the new one?
(Crossing fingers hoping for an easy way to get this done).
Thanks in advance!

Use the parent Quick Launch on a subsite after it has been built?
I am trying to figure out how to tell a subsite that I already created to use
the quick links from its parent site.
When I set up the new site, I chose the 'don't inherit quick links' option -
but now I want to. Is there a way to do it? Or do I need to go through all
the subsites and manually re-enter all the links? Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67361
Dataview Problems with WSS Library
I have a WSS 3.0 site that has 9 subsites, each with its own document
libraries. I have been asked to set up a 10th site that contains,
among other things, a dataview listing of the files in a library on
site2.
The problem is that this library uses folders, with each top folder
having two or more subfolders. In the dataview that Sharepoint
Designer gives me, I can only list the top folders. The user would
like to see a sorted files-only list (the folders should not be
shown), much like one of the views he has set up in the library
itself.
Is this possible?
I have tried making the files-only view in the library the default
view, but that does not seem to change how sharepoint creates the
dataview.
I tried setting the Properties of the Data Source to "Files Only", but
that does not change anything.
I am not a programmer, and the only tool at my disposal is Sharepoint
Designer.
Any ideas?

Custom parts or other software to enable more granular permissions?
Does anyone know of a custom webpart or other product that would
provide administrators more granular control over permission levels in
WSS 3.0? Each specific permission option often contains multiple
functions, for example the List Permission for:
"Manage Lists - Create and delete lists, add or remove columns in a
list, and add or remove public views of a list."
I'd like to able to break this down and permit a user to add or remove
public views of a list but NOT create/delete lists or add/remove
columns.
I'd love to find something that gives me the ability to slice and dice
each component of the permissions as I need to.
Any ideas? Does such a tool exist?

Windows Sharepoint Service 3.0 Authentication and encryption
Hi,
Is anyone using authentication methods other than Windows
authentication for their WSS 3/MOSS implemention? I'm thinking smart
cards, certificates and things like that.
Also, does anyone know if you can have different web applications in
WSS 3/MOSS using different authentication methods, e.g. a standard
site collection using ordinary windows auth and another more secure
collection requiring the use of a smart card or something similar?
Just one more, is there some way of encrypting the documents in a
Sharepoint SQL server database so that database users would just get
junk if they tried to extract a document record from the DB but
Sharepoint can retrieve and decrypt the data using a certificate or
something similar?
Thanks!

Add 100 GB of Data
I am hoping this is the right place to ask, if not please point me in
the correct direction.
I am currently running a Windows 2003 server and WSS 3.0. Honeslty I
can't remember how big the current Hard Drive config is, but that is
irrelevant. I have to add 100 GB of data to the site and I don't have
that much room. What is the best practices for doing this. Should I
purchase another server and set up a portal? Set up a NAS device, and
get WSS to use that drive? I need some help here please.

Usage analysis processing is not running
I'm having trouble with Site Usage Report in WSS3 SP1.
In the Site Settings, the Site usage report says "A usage report is
not available for this site and bla-bla". While I have configured
"Enable logging" and "Enable usage analysis processing" in the
"Central Administration > Operations > Usage Analysis Processing". I
also see the job definition in the Timer Job Definitions area.
stsadm -o getproperty -pn job-usage-analysis -url http://...
returns
<Property Exist="Yes" Value="every 1 minutes between 0 and 59" />
however nothing happens, except the following in the log file
OWSTIMER.EXE (0x12734) Unknown SPRequest error occurred. More
information: 0x80070005
OWSTIMER.EXE (0x12734) Unexpected ERROR: Failed invoking job id

Any ideas?
I tried to google and don't find anything useful so far. I checked
rights on \LOG directory for WSS_WPG account - OK, I added this
account to C:\windows\tasks (read-write). Tried to check the job
programmatically using
foreach (SPJobDefinition job in site.WebApplication.JobDefinitions)
{
if (job.Title == "Usage Analysis")
{
Console.WriteLine("IsDisabled=" + job.IsDisabled);
Console.WriteLine("LastRunTime=" +
job.LastRunTime.ToString());
Console.WriteLine("Status=" + job.Status);
Console.WriteLine("Schedule=" +
job.Schedule.GetType().ToString().Remove(0, 21));
Console.WriteLine("NextOccurrence=" +
job.Schedule.NextOccurrence(DateTime.Now).ToString());
job.Execute(site.ContentDatabase.Id);
}
}
that returns following
IsDisabled=False
LastRunTime=01.01.0001 00:00:00
Status=Online
Schedule=SPMinuteSchedule
NextOccurrence=14.07.2008 15:02:39
but as you see the LastRunTime value is 01.01.0001 00:00:00 that means
it was never executed...

Web Part Error: This page has encountered a critical error.
Hi, I have problem with WSS v.3 migration from one farm to another.
Old farm uses Windows Web Server 2008 x64 as frontend and Windows Server
2003 R2 SP2 x86 with SQL Server 2005 SP2 x86 as backend. The new farm uses
Windows Server 2008 x64 as front end and Windows Server 2008 x64 with SQL
2005 SP2 x64 as backend.
For migration I use Backup and Restore through SharePoint Central
Administration Web.
Both farms are installed in Manual account creation mode.
I have tested new farm, if I create new WSS Application on it it works just
fine.
I performed restore through SharePoint Central Administration on new farm
and it finished without errors, also I made iisreset /noforce after
restoration.
When I navigate to restored website I get the same error on every list and
main page:
Web Part Error: This page has encountered a critical error. Contact your
system administrator if this problem persists.
I have tried to restore several different WSS sites from the old farm, but
error is the same on all of them.
Any ideas, where to search for the root of this problem? Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67340

Maintaining hierarchy
Dear colleagues,
In a custom list; I would like to implement a directory that may have
the following options:
1.) Categories may contain subcategories and so on.
2.) An item may belong to more than one category or sub-category.
For example:
If Microsoft company would be included in the directory and we have
some categories such as:
1. IT
1.1 Software
1.2 Hardware
2. Finance
3. Research
and assuming we would like to add Microsoft web site to the directory
and that it belongs to (1. IT), (1.1 Software), (1.2 Hardware) and (3.
Research), figuring out a suitable approach causes me headache!
The reason is that I'm limited to not using any thing other than
Sharepoint.
I implemented a content type of type folder in order for me to
maintain the hierarchy of categories; should an item belong to a
single category or sub-category, then another content type in the list
of type item would work just fine; however, the intersection of
association as in the Microsoft example doesn't make that approach
suitable.
If would use a webpart, that would be some how ok, but I must leave
the user use the standard default "NewForm" and "EditForm".
Some may wonder, why not using the Site Directory; it's an approach
being studied at the moment, but the current approach is to use a
custom list.
Any suggestions are highly appreciated

Newbie permission error
I can't figure out who the website administrator is I have Sharepoint 2.0
running on SBS 2003 R2 and it appears that the dbo of the STS databases are
a group SBS Admin of which I am a member. The Administrator of the domain is
also and administrator. Each time I attempt to make changes, the
permissions are denied. Is the website administrator a service account? Can
permissions be set through SQL server by adding another user to the STS
databases with dbo permissions or is it really convoluted? If the latter,
how do I determine who or what the website administrator is?

WSS FAQ additions and changes - 29th June - 5th July 2008
Note: All of the addresses of the KB / Articles - 2007 Products / MS /
Non-MS Articles below were valid at the time I added them to the WSS FAQ
site and to this file. I can't guarantee that they still are.

items more quickly by checking at wss.collutions.com or www.wssfaq.com

NOTE: Amendment to KB articles: Microsoft are not not amending the date
of a KB article if the change made is marked as a version point change
(so from 2.2 to 2.3 for instance).
This ought to mean that the amendment made is cosmetic rather than
important as important text changes ought to result in a major version
change (such as from 2.2 to 3.0).
Because of this change and to avoid unnecessary effort I will in future
not amend the listings in the WSS FAQ sites if only a minor version
change has taken place.
I will continue to amend both the date and version numbers of major
version changes and of course will continue to add all relevant new KB
articles that my RSS feeds and other sources give me.

Filtering an imported list by user
Hello,
I have imported an excel spreadsheet, one of the columns contains the
customer (Agent).
I wish to filter the list so that users can only see the items which
are relevant to them.
The only way I can see to do this is to manually create a view which
filters by their name, but there are too many customers and different
views required to make this feasable.
I've tried filtering using the Me function, (which returns exactly the
same text as that which is in the Agent column), however, it is
searching for the text "=PROPER(RIGHT(Me,LEN(Me)-9))" rather than the
calculated value...
The user didn't create any of the items, so how can I filter it to
display only the relevant ones?
It's been driving me mad, thanks for any help. Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67330

I am using WSS3 with my config and content databases in SQL2005 on the same
machine. I would like to move both databses to a SQL instance on a different
machine.
Is there any simple way to do this?

creating branching logic in a SharePoint 2007 list
Is there a way to take the branching logic that is in a sharepoint
2007 survey and have the same functionality in a sharepoint list? I'm
trying to create a process using a flowchart, but I want to be able to
branch the information to certain questions in the list. Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67315
Customizing Helpdesk prebuilt template
Hello all,
I download the 40 templates for wss 3.0 and installed the Helpdesk
one. I am curious on how you can customize the forms contained
within. The one I was looking at specifically was the New Service
Request form. I wanted to try and prepopulate the Customer field on
the NewForm.aspx with the current logged in user. Basically trying to
leverage the User.Identity.Name or something of that nature.
Any thoughts on how this could be accomplished? It may be more
trouble than it is worth.
Thanks,

Listing Information for Shared Documents?
I am using windows sharepoint and I am uploading sales orders into the shared
documents. The shared documents view shows "type", "name", "modified", and
"modified by" as fields, but I need to create my own fields to provide
information about the document such as customer and ID number. I was
wondering how I could go about uploading a document with this type of
information onto sharepoint. Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67298
Bug in Alerts
Can someone confirm if this is a bug?
Here are the steps
1. Create an announcements list
2. Create a "assignedperson" column in the new announcements list (allow
multiple people)
3. Create a view on the announcments list with filter set to
"assignedperson=[Me]"
4. Set an alert and choose this view in the "Send me an alert when:" section
When I use only myself in the assignedperson field, I get the alert
When I assign myself and someone else, the item displays properly in the
view, but the alert is not sent.
Can anyone confirm this is a bug.
Does anyone know if Microsoft is reading these groups everyday? Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67294

(This is also posted to my blog at http://mikewalsh.bilsimser.com)
(Items are added to the WSS FAQ throughout the week so you will find new
items more quickly by checking at wss.collutions.com or www.wssfaq.com
daily.)
From 29th June 2008 - 5th July 2008

Cannot sync onenote to sharepoint
My collegue cannot open or synzronize onenotefiles from within
onenot.
He can upload a onenote file to the sharepoint server from the web-
interface.
He can open the file from the onenote interface on the hompage of
sharepoint
He can NOT open the file on the srver from within onenote...
He cannot, when having the file opened in onenote, synch the file
(after chances) from within onenote OR he cannot start a shared
notebook saving it to the sharepoint server from within onenote
So - it seems that from within onenote he only has one way
communication with the server....
The following error message (in swedish) appear when trying to synch:
"Not connected"
And under the Error tab it then sais:
The given networkname is in the wrong format (translated from
swedish) (Error code: 0x4BE)
When trying to open a file or start a shared notebook on the sps the
following error appears:

WSS Search Problem
We've managed to create a major headache here... hope you can help.
We created a WSS 3.0 site on a Windows 2003 server using the built-in
SQL Express as the database. All was working very well, including
Search, until we made the site public through Alternate Access
Mappings.
Unfortunately, a misunderstanding of what to enter in AMM ( the IT
admin changed the "default" name, instead of adding the Internet
Header) caused the problem. While the site still "worked", a
SiteSearch came back with nothing.
We fixed the AAM entry,, but now Search refuses to re-index all the
docs, wikis and pages that are currently in the site. But, if we add
a new item/doc, or if an item is changed, Search *will* find and index
that item. But all the stuff we loaded in the trial stage does not
appear in any search results.
I have tried a restart on Search- no luck.
Is there a way to force Search to recrawl the entire Site Collection?
Thanks!

Multiple SharePoint Databases
Hi All,
We currently have one SharePoint 2007 farm hosted in the US. Our
problem is that when users in other geographical regions (Ex: Argentina)
needs to upload or download files they experience lots of latency as a result
of bandwidth limitations. Is there any way to have a second content database
in that remote office in order to decrease the amount of time it takes to
download and upload documents? Or is there any other work around?
Thanks all Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67268

Converting Access database for use in WSS3
Hi!
I have an Access database and application which I need to re-create in web
interface, I mean make the similar application in WSS 3 site. I have created
a new database in SQL Server 2005 and exported all tables from Access into
this database. I wanted to know, what is the correct way of visualizing
tables and data? Using lists? Or creating Data Views with Sharepoint
Designer? I don't know much about the WSS yet, I'm learning, so any help is
greately appreciated. Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67263
Site users webpart how-to.
Another question is that it still remains unclear to me on how to handle
users, permissions in WSS 3.0. Also, I have a webpart on my default page
which is Site Users. I was thinking that it will display any users logged in
(from Active Directory) but it's not so. It shows me my user name and three
groups (Site Member, Owners and Contributors). is there a way to display any
logged in user in this web part or its designed for some other reason? Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67262
Error when adding a new webpart
Hi!
In my WSS3.0 site I was trying to add a Site Users webpart to a default page
but receive this error:
Unable to add selected web part(s). Site Users: An error has occured.
It was working before though... Yesterday, I was messing with SQL Server
permissions. Could it be due to this? How can I troubleshoot it? Is there a
way to reset everything to default as far as permissions are concerned and
to keep the site content as is? Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67261
Search Server
Hello,
I hope this is the correct group to post this question.
We recently instsalled Sharepoint Services on a server running Windows 2003
Server and SQL 2005 Std. We have been using this now for a short time and
recently noticed that it was not possible to search our site. We get the
following message:
Your search cannot be completed because this site is not assigned to an
indexer. Contact your administrator for more information.
I am quite new to Sharepoint and may be running before I can walk. Could
somebody suggest the best method to resolve this issue and get the search
feature working on our site.
Thanks
Nick
I checked on the server and found that the Sharepoint search service was
disabled. I have now set this to automatic and it seeems to be running fine
using the system account. However when I try to select the server for the
content database it does not allow me do do so, Tag: Archiving wiki Tag: 67252
ERROR - The data source control failed to execute the update command.
I'm running a WSS 3.0 and SQL Server 2005 Standard. I've created an aspx
page whith a Single item Form. Data from SQL Server database tables is shown
correctly, however when I try to modify the data and save it, I get the
following error :
The data source control failed to execute the update command.
How can I troubleshoot and solve this?

SharePoint Rookie needs a little help
All,
I created a Sharepoint site for some events that will take place every
two weeks. I successfully created the events on the calendar, but
don't see how to invite people or groups. I did manage to create a
"workspace" for each event and a list of users for the site. I need
them to be invited and accept the meeting invitations and/or change
their attendance status if possible. In short, I would like to see the
functionality of the Outlook Calendar objects with the nice
centralization that SharePoint seems to offer.
Thank you in advance!
