Has anyone had a problem with announcments in the Announcment webpart not
expiring on their expiration date? Is there something special that has to be
configured for WSS to delete old announcements? We create announcements and
set the "expires" date, but they remain out there until manually deleted.

TIA,
JM

Are you getting alert emails? Just a guess, but maybe the Sharepoint Timer
Server is unhappy. I'm not sure if it governs that or not. You might try
restarting that and see if it helps.

We are getting alerts (and other types of automated email like approaching
the quota limit). Thanks for the thought though.

JM,

Just like any other list in SharePoint, the announcement list has a
List view page which you can get to by clicking on the actual title of
the list (this is the page whose address ends in AllItems.aspx). The
announcements here show indefinitely even if they are expired until
they are deleted.

Now suppose you have dragged this annoucements list onto your WSS site
home page (default.aspx). When an annoucement expires, it simply stops
showing up on this view of the announcement list. However, as I said
earlier, you can still get to the List view page for this announcement
list and the expired annoucement will still be there.

That is interesting. We are using this web part "out of the box", and I
assumed "Expires on" would actually do something. Also, it doesn't have a
filter (or view other than "All Items") to not show items that have past the
expiration date... strange that it wouldn't be built in. I can create
another view, but it's not practical to go back and update the 100+ sites we
have that are already using it. I'd hoped there was something that ran on
the server that deleted the expired announcements. Thanks for you help.
