    - adduser command-line errors I am a newbie to WSS and would appreciate help. I have a single server installation with working sites in the admin virtual server. I have also extended a second virtual server and created a sites successfully there as well. I am utilizing Active Directory so I need to add users via the command-line. This is where I am having trouble. I am wondering if I am not entering the correct path syntax for the â??url parameter. QUESTIONS: 1. What is the default path for the admin virtual server and other extended virtual servers? 2. Do users all have to be created in Active Directory first or does the command-line operation create and store user accounts at the root Virtual Server level? This is what I have tried: Stsadm â??o adduser â??url http://server netbios name/Virtual Server Name â??userlogin DOMAIN\Username â??useremail user@domain.com â??username â??joeuserâ?? -role reader I am getting the following error message no matter what path I try for the â??url path â??The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration databaseâ??     - WSS Logoff?? Is there a way or web part that logoffs user in WSS.....I googled around and this is the only one I found: http://www.asaris-matrix.com/sweber/playground/Downloads/Logoff.zip The improved version is supposed to work with IE 5 and 6 and non-IE browsers I can not seem to get it to work for any non IE browser that I test.     - why are these files created in C:\Windows\Temp? On our WSS server, I see about 50 files created per day in the C:\Windows\Temp directory and they appear to be related to WSS.     - New domain-after a couple of weeks 1 user can´t access the companyweb- SBS2003! Hi all, I have recently set up a new domian for a customer, this with a SBS 2003 Premium with ISA 2000.At first all worked like charm, now after approx 2 weeks they have one user who can´t access the sharepoint companyweb, he only get´s the "white page" which says can´t find companyweb.Also on the DC itself the administrator get´s to the loginpage when trying to access the same companyweb site. I have checked and compared security settings for this users with all other users that can access companyweb and nothing is different. Also compared settings/security on the companyweb site in IIS with other SBS installations I have done, and all seems the same. Anyone who knows what I shall look for in my path to solve this??     - Reputable (and secure) SPS hosting companies My manager is attempting to move our department to SharePoint Services, but we will need to use a hosting company because of internal IT restrictions on Windows Server 2003. We have a long list of U.S. partners who host SPS implementations, but I'm not familiar with most of their reputations. We are primarily concerned with server uptime and security of documents posted to the site. Are there specific SPS hosting companies who have the best reputations in the field?     - Update On Browser Caching and Edited Web Pages .mht Hi, When a single file web page .mht is edited then saved a user will still see the old data if the page is in the IE temp files. I've done some testing to find ways to alleviate this. This only happens if the edited file is the first one the user goes to in the document library after the update. For instance file A is edited and saved. A user had opened file A before the edit and then hit the back button to go back to the document library. If they now open file A they see the old data until they hit refresh. Or if they go back to the document library and open file B then open file A they see the new data in file A without having to hit refresh. Seems the code runs to requery the database if the edited file was not the last file the user displayed. MS probably did this to decrease the response time. It would be nice if they recoded to always run the query or give the admin an option to always run the query for web pages. You can also set IE to empty the cache when the browser is closed. We don't have a lot of users accessing a lot of web pages where they need the cache so we can take the small performance hit.     - How to list the sites set up on a server? Is there a way that I can list all of the sites set up on a virtual server? I have taken over responsibility for this sharepoint server and know there are a bunch of sites set up, but I can't seem to list what they are. I think there are a bunch set up for testing that I want to get rid of, but I don't see an option to list them to show which one to delete.     - This is a tough 1 - Authentication prompt I have a 1 user who is prompted for authentication using a domain account when accessing a sharepoint site. This individual has successfully logged on previously without the logon prompt coming up. Although, even though he is promted for authentication, if you hit cancel, the homepage still comes up, and the user is bombarding with continous prompts. He are more details: This user does not have this issue from other machines. On the problem machine, I do not have the issue when I log in. (Profile specific) I have deleted all of the Temporary Internet files though the command prompt. I have Clear Passwords within Internet Options.     - Files linked to workspace sometimes unlink I've got a document workspace that has grown over the course of the project, and now some of the links between local copies of files and the workspace have broken. I can't re-add the documents through the Office Shared Workspace task pane because there are too many files in the workspace for Word to display in the task pane. If I open the file from SharePoint, then try to save it to locally, Word no longer asks if I want to link to the shared copy. I've got three questions: What is the maximum number of files in a workspace? Is there any way to restore links after this happens? Is this by design or a bug?     - SharePoint Server woes - Please help Just got SharePoint Server 2.0 reinstalled from an accidental deletion of the Config database. Recreated the Config database "SharePoint" and pointed it to the existing Content database "STS_CSTORESERVER_1". I'm trying to do it on a simple custom list (for the sake of this example) and it's not working.     - Unable to create asp.net web project in vs.net I was able to create asp.net project using Visual Studio.NET 2003 till yesterday. Late yesterday i have installed Microsoft Sharepoint Services and BizTalk 2004 Server. Now when I create a new asp.net project using VS.NET I am getting the following error, "Web Access Fail" error. and I get this: Unable to create Web project 'XXXX'. The file path 'D:\Projects\WebApplication' does not correspond to the URL 'http://localhost/WebApplication'. The two need to map to the same server location.     - status board - in/out We are a company of 25 employees that includes service personal that are always coming and going. I would love to have a feature on our SharePoint internal site where employees can toggle whether they are in the office or out (preferably on the front page). I found some awesome resources that will come in handy in the future like Mike's Site!!     - Do NOT Map a Network Drive to SharePoint Libraries Recently Mike Walsh posted this in regards to a question asked if files were stored in 2 locations. I"ve tried the below and can successfuly see my documents in the IE interface as well as the Explorer mapped drive view by using the following: local harddrive Net use X: \\servername\xxx\doclib where http://servername/xxx/doclib/AllItems.aspx is the web address. Then X: contains all the same files as are actually stored in the WSS database for that doc lib. You should I suspect amend them only using the WSS UI though. Issue: Mike is right. There's 3 ways to view your shared documents. 1) View via the SharePoint UI 2) Map a network drive 3) Map a web folder Wanna see something neat? Try this: Take a test document and upload it to the shared folders. Edit it: 1) In the SharePoint UI. Save it. It's fine right? 2) Map a Web Folder. Edit it. Save. Still fine. 3) Map a Network drive. Edit it. Save. Gone. What? That's right. If you EDIT the document in a mapped network drive, which you will see the folders and files, you save it, it says OKAY and then it's gone. This does not happen with a mapped web folder or the SharePoint UI. But for some reason, it allows you to map a network folder but editing the documents that way is really a bad idea.     - Documents stored on two locations Hi, Is it possible to have a document on a local harddrive or networkshare AND in a sharepoint library. I'm looking for some kind of shadow folder functionality where the local/network files are always the same as the latest version in a sharepoint documentlibrary. In the best scenario, opening the local/network file to also open/update the file in Sharepoint (only from within sharepoint enabled applications ofcourse, like word/excel). Is this possible?     - Error Message when Saving from Word 2003 One of my developers has an issue when she does the following Navigates to a file on WSS Checks the file out Open the file from the website Edits the files Attempts to save changed file, she gets the following message. http://'sitename/filename.doc' cannot be accessed. The file may not exist or may be in use or the web server is temporarily busy. We only have this issue on her machine, it is a new XP Sp2 build, with Office 2003.     - page viewer web part form results page won't work We want to put a short form on the home page where the user enters about three pieces of information and clicks Submit, with the results being sent to an admin via e-mail. So I created a page called form1.htm in front page that has the simple form. On the form properties, they are set to send via e-mail and display a custom "thank you" confirmation page (which we also created in frontpage and named thanks.htm). I then added a Page Viewer Web Part to the home page and set it to display form1.htm. The form seems to work properly and e-mail the results as intended, but it won't display the custom confirmation page. Instead it displays the default confirmation page that normally displays if you leave that field blank. It's the one that says "Form Confirmation. Thank you for submitting the following informaiton..." Is there a way to make the confirmation page display, or perhaps another solution?     - Very abnormal password/username prompting Hello everybody! First of all excuse me for not beeing very good in writing English. I'm installing and building a WSS-site with subsites as a traineeship for my school. This WSS-site (WSS, SBS2003, WMSDE) is build at a company. I'm going pretty good until some of the collegues got some weird problems. First of all I will describe the part of the WSS-site I made: It's a documentlibrary with a couple of WSS pages with webparts in it. I wanted to make a intranetsite that when people clicked on it it would look like a normal page and not a WSS page. I made it in Frontpage 2003. Now when you look at the Home page you can click and direct go to this page. I have made 2 of this kind of pages. 1. The problems I've now after implementation have come up with is that some employees get, when they click on this link to go to that page, three times prompted to fill in their username and password. When they click cancel the first time, they can just view the pages. These employees have all installed SP2. The employees that can just reach the pages without the prompted window to fill in their username and password have all installed SP1. I know the problem is most likely in SP2 but I don't how to fix it. The weird thing is that on the second set of pages I created, the problems don't occur??????? 2. The pages described above have also got another problem: the same users (with SP2) can't view pages that are through a link are displayed in an iFrame.     - Problem with Office Solution Accelerator for Sarbanes-Oxley I successfully installed and tested this several months ago. There is now interest within the higher management to take this further ... but I'm having problems with the product. I think it may be caused by XP SP2, but I'm not sure. I've got the site listed as a trusted site with lowest security possible. Clicking on "Configure Control Environment" behaves weirdly: 1. My PC displays a "File Download" window, saying "Do you want to open or save this file?". At the same time, Infopath opens the file anyway! 2. Attempting to add a child node to the root gives me this error "Data request send failed. Click OK to retry or Cancel to abort.". Repeated clicks on Ok give me the same error. Clicking on Cancel gives me "Error adding child taxonomy node: 'Object required'". KB872838 talks about object errors in this accelerator and advises that the problem is to do with tighter security around the ADODB.Stream object. However, I've followed the instructions to edit the registry key to re-enabled ADODB.Stream and I'm still getting the error. Can anyone please help me with this?     - WSS for a non-profit We would love to upgrade to wss. STS is limited and the features of the new version would provide a great benefit. Being a non-profit, we can afford fp 2003, but not the upgrade to Windows 2003 server and do not have the staff to learn and administer 2003. In fact, we have been skimping by on Windows 2k pro (not server), which has seemlessly hosted sts. Is there some alternate prepackaged web app along the lines of sts and wss that would be more affordable? If not, is there any hope of launching wss on a w2k machine? An xp pro machine?     - Sharepoint Mapped Drive or Network Place I am trying to create a mapped network Drive or a network place to a document libary. It seems no matter what username format I get it rejects my username and password. the path is http://server001/Shared%20Documents I was able to make a network path connect under a diffrent profile on the same computer so I cant figure out whats up. I have tried user@domain and password domain\user and password and user and password. I am positive I have the correct username and password because I can login to sharepoint with the same credentials.     - Filtered List View Web Part Perhaps this is a Frontpage Group question, but here it is: I have a SharePoint list of customers and when I drill into to the display page (DispForm.aspx) I want to filter a Data View Web part (DVWP) for the contacts associated with that customer (so you only see the contacts related to Customer A for example). I should be able to do this with a DVWP in Frontpage? No? I have tried filtering the Contacts DVWP with a customerID = '@ID' etc. and with no luck. Any idears on how to configure this as a web part?     - Displaying different content if user is authenticated or not in WSS Hi. I apologize in advance if this is common knowledge -- I did search first, but didn't find the results I need. Using WSS, I have a site in which anonymous users can see some public data. Once they have authenticated, however, I need them to see slightly different data. In other words, I want various web parts on the page to display, or not, based on the authentication status of the current user. I have searched pretty carefully, and haven't found a way to show or hide webparts based on whether the user is anonymous or not. In asp.net, I would just write code to hide the content if the user isn't authenticated, but being new to this, I don't see how to do that in WSS. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.     - smigrate restore issues When I do a restore using smigrate, I do not get the meta data (created by) information for folders inside document libraries. Actual Document meta data is restored correctly, but not the folders. Folder Names get restored correctly though. How can I get this around? is this a known issue?     - cannot export any web parts of some page, but not all??? Hi, I have a problem with some web part pages, I can't export any web part in these page while I can on other pages on the same web site (and on the same document library). its the same web parts on the 2 pages. when only 1 webpart The error is: "The requested webpart is not found or deleted from the page by another user" But I am sure that the webpart exists and the page is ok. Its all or nothing: if the export works, then I can export all the web parts of the page, else none the webpart can be exported!!! I am new to WSS, but have a req to add asap.
I attempted to add WSS today, promtly shutting down other web sites that
were listed in default in IIS.

Is there any way to change the initial installation or prevent WSS from
controlling other sites upon installation? Any other shortcut to hints about
WSS also welcome.

Install WSS on a new virtual server. However, be sure to filter on host
headers, and not on IP address.
