I have SBS2003 installed and running. I have an internal website setup and
running SPS. Internaly it all works great. But how do you or is there a way
to set it up to acess the site remotely with https? I can go in through the
SSL connection and use the remote desktop or server connections links and
logon to one of the local machines and access the page but I am unable to
pull off the website directly from the default page after you logon. It says
site cannot be found. I would normaly think that the link had the wrong
information listed but it is listed like it would be if you were logged on
locally.
I want to be able to access the local SharePoint services company site
remotely without making it a public site....like updating the calendar and
documents when your not on the local lan. Is this possible? Or am I just
missing something.

For my information, you want your Sharepoint site available through the
internet and the intranet? Go to IIS -> your virtual server where sharepoint
is -> click the website tab > click on 'advanced' and there type in the
ip/hostheader on which your company can be located through the internet.

Thanks so much for the reply, but I have the host header and ip address
already inplace and the local dns entries are in and pointing correctly. I am
thinking that it is probably a port problem. I am able to bring up the
default https page were you can choose your Internal website, remote connect
to desktops, mange the site, etc....., but when I click on the link for the
actual sharepoint site I get the page cannot be displayed, I can use the
other links from the webpage without issue. I guess I will have to go ahead
and open port 80, I hate to even open that port even for a little while. I
will test and see if that might be the problem, I thought that once you
authenicated through the ssl port that it would continue to use the 443 and
4125, whoops there I go thinking again, I don't have a clue to what is
causing this. And Thanks again for repling.

I read Microsoft's whitepaper on making companyweb available through
the internet but it requires you to obtain an additional IP address. I
work for a non-profit and an extra $10 month isnt feasible right now.
Is their a work around?
