For a bunch of files larger than 50 MB, I have a Windows folder that I
made a web share, but accessing this (webdav) folder with IE or
WSS-pageviewer web part gives only a very basic and unsophisticated
listing on the contents of the folder.
Is there some way (or some software) that gives a better, more
windows-alike look and use of webfolders, or that is recommended in
combination with Sharepoint?

What exactly do you want the interface to show for the files?

.. and what's wrong with using the user interface the WSS team provided to
see the files in this document library :)

It seems odd to use a web share instead of the normal UI and then complain
about the look of the web share.

Ok, I will be more clear: because the files are larger than 50 MB, I
cannot upload them to a document library.
Therefore, I need to find another solution in which the users can
access large files through WSS by using a page viewer web part, that is
set to show a webshare of a folder on the server.
The standard view that a webshare gives (via the internet accessed) it
as follows, which is the same as if accessing an ftp server in the
oldfashioned way::

Domainname.com/foldername/
[To Parent Directory]
Sunday, November 20, 2005 12:01 AM <dir> dirname
Saturday, November 19, 2005 10:12 PM 6356337 filename

And that is not very like normal windows folders, nor like WSS folder
views.
So, does anyone have a solution for this?

You can if you increase the settings for maximun file size. The default is
50MB but it can be over-ruled and does now work with larger settings.

Yes I know, but files larger than 60 MB cause difficulties for SQL
server to process, as has been informed in other posts already (and by
MS).
My files are more than 100 MB sometimes, and just will not be uploaded
even after increasing the default max file size.

Not with recent SPs - that was an earlier problem (and it struck at about 80
MB or even higher if I remember right rather than as low as 60MB). I think
it was SP1 where this was fixed.

We have uploads as large as 150 MB on our WSS site. Like Engelbert said,
once you get all the recent SPs on you should be fine.
