    - Daylight saving modificatio and testing Hi We are trying to patch the new daylight saving definition to our us sharepoint server. We go for the method by modifying the xml file. Due to insufficient experience dealing with timezone problems, we are required to create some test case to make sure the new definition work. Can anyone help to provide some idea how should I test if the patch work?     - Receive "Cannot connect to the configuration database" when attempting to install a new web part I've create a new web part. I'm trying to install this web part on a Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 instance. In my development environment, Sharepoint is set up on a single server with SQL Server 2000 on the same box. I can install the web part just fine there. On the production instance, Sharepoint is set up different. SQL Server 2000 is on a separate box. Using the same steps (as I do on the development instance), I get a "cannot connect to the configuration database" error message. As far as I know, everything else on the production Sharepoint instance is working just fine. I've seen the troubleshooting steps at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/ 823287/en-us. On the web server, the app pool identity is set to "NETWORK SERVICE". On the SQL Server 2000 instance, the "NETWORK SERVICE" account is not a member of any of the roles listed in the knowledge base article. If I add the SQL Server 2000 instance's 'NETWORK SERVICE" account to the proper roles, would that fix my problem? Do I need to create another account that is the same for both servers? I'm not sure why I get this error on the production server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tag: WSS V3 Tag: 56359

    - Field type Comments is not installed properly error I am getting the following error: Field type Comments is not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete this field.     - WSS - Error using stsadm "-o deletesite", (corrupted site?) I am having an issue with a site collection on my sharepoint server. I used stsadm.exe with the -o createsite parameter to create a blank corporate IT test site on our intranet (http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2). Before the command was finished running however, the command window was closed by accident. Now when I go to enumsites for http://intranet, I get the following entry among the others: <Site Url="http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2" Error="There is no Web named "/sites/corporateIT2"."> If I try to run stsadm.exe -o deletesite or -o backup with the CorprorateIT2 url, I get: "The system cannot find the path specified" If I try to run: stsadm.exe -o deletepath with the CorporateIT2 url, I get: "The managed path you specified does not exist" If I try to run: stsadm.exe -o restore -url http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2 -filename -overwrite from a backup I have of the production corporate IT site I get: "The Web site address "http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2" is already in use" If I try to access the site through a browser, I get: 400 error, "Bad Request" At this point, I'm just trying to clean up/delete the http://intranet/sites/corporateIT2 path/site that I've created. It's not hurting much right now as the intranet is still a development platform, and no one needs the corporateIT2 url, but I want to get a better picture of what's going on and how to fix it moving forward.     - Uploading 1000s of files without needing to check in Hi, I need to upload literally 1000s of files into a Doc Repository in SharePoint 3. I can do this easily through Explorer view, however I notice that all the files are checked out to me when I do this. Is there any easy way to check-in all the files at once OR Upload multiple files so that they are not checked out when the upload / copy completes? TIA. Tag: WSS V3 Tag: 56354

    - Issue upgrading Sharepoint 2003 sp2 to MOSS 2007 trial version I downloaded the trial version of MOSS 2007 until my CD and license comes in. I have a test environment with 1 server which is the front end webserver, the 2nd server is the job server and indexer and the 3rd server is running SQL 200 sp4. In my actual environment its a 3 server farm as opposed to the 2 server farm I have in my test environment. I ran all windows updates on all 3 boxes including grabbing the DST update for Sharepoint 2003. I ran the prescan.exe and cleared all errors. I installed .NET 3.0 on both the front end and job/indexer. I also enabled .NET 2.0 in IIS.I upgraded the frontend first without running the config wizard. I then upgraded the job/index server second and stopped at running the config wizard.     - Migrating Sharepoint structure from one hosted service supplier to another Our Sharepoint site is hosted by a commercial hosted Sharepoint supplier but I need to move it to one that works (!). How do I achieve this? The underlying domain name is the same on each service in case that helps.     - Renaming SharePoint Databases (not server name) I have a need to rename the SharePoint dbs that were created when I installed Project 2007. The databases in question are the WSS_Content and SharePoint_Admin_Content. If someone could tell me how to rename these databases without affecting functionality that would be very helpful. Or would it be easier to create new content databases and attach them to the web applications and delete the old ones? Any help is greatly appreciated!     - IE Locks when trying to access Sharepoint I posted this on the portal server group and thought I'd try over here too. I have several members on my team with an issue when trying to access our sharepoint site. IE will show one bar on the progress bar, but lock up and I have to end program to get out. It doesn't even get to the login popup. They can get to other internal and external websites. They can login in to the sharepoint site from other PCs. Here's what I've tried: 1. Delete all temp files 2. I can ping the server from a command prompt 3. I can get the the sharepoint site through firefox (although we have no functionality) 4. I removed all the webparts on the opening page - still nothing 5. I added the website to their trusted sites. 6. I've matched all the security settings to my PC. Nothing changed on their machines to cause this. I even get it on my machine from time to time, but once I end program and restart IE, I can get in. Any suggestions? Shelly Tag: WSS V3 Tag: 56345

    - How to enable auditing on WSS v3 Hello. Can anyone point me in the direction for instructions on how you enable and view auditing in WSS v3? I am aware you it's not a GUI option in WSS v3 The admin section of the MS technet library is still down as "TBD", so no help there. I've tried Mike Walsh's excellent WSS FAQ, however it states that it must be performed by the object model. "Note: In WSS v3 Audit Logging needs to be turned on (and accessed) via the Object Model (OM)" The following link, seems to relate to MOSS 2007 and not WSS v3 http://markharrison.co.uk/blog/archive%5C2006_07_01_archive.htm Any pointers will be great (I'm guessing you need to use SP designer 2007?)     - Toolpart postback problem Hi, I'm currently having a problem getting my toolpart to retain its viewstate on postback. I have several list that need to be populated depending on what was selected above them. At the moment i'm trying to get the lists to load on the click event of a button. My problem is when this click event is called, the page does a postback and all the current values of the lists are lost and the toolpart is reloaded with its original values.     - Smigrate and Original Site I have a WSS 2.0 sp2 (6.0.28117) server. It's a single server with the config and content DBs on another server running SQL 2000 sp4. We're looking at upgrading to WSS 3.0 and to do so wanted to setup a test environment. Smart aye? :) So I created a backup using the smigrate tool. Setup a new server, installed WSS 2.0 and patched it to the same version. Re-created all the sites without templates. Setup all the databases like on the original server but pointing at a different SQL server (2005 in this instance). I copied the smigrate backup files over to the new server and ran the tool to restore to the new web. as in http://site2 instead of http://site1 It all seemed to work just fine except that after running the tool, my ORIGINAL sharepoint site gives a 404 Bad Request error. For the life of me, I see no reason why the 2 would be connected but that is the only change done to that server recently. Help would be appreciated. Thanks Tag: WSS V3 Tag: 56328

    - Alternate url synchronizer job error I'm recieving this error every 60 seconds in the Windows Application log the specifics of which are below. This is on a server hosting a MOSS installation of an upgraded v2 SPS portal. These WSS errors are new and I'm getting MOSS errors of the same type as well. I've had this MOSS portal up since before the RTM release and I believe they're related to the re-direct mechanism deployed when upgrading from SPS to MOSS associated with Areas being converted to sub sites within the site collection. I'm unaware of any changes that I've made that could possibly be related but clearly something has changed. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.     - Migrate wss 2.0 and sql 2000 to new hardware All, Maybe someone can help me out with this. I've been reading and reading for days and I see a lot of different posts and doc's but none that seem to address my particular situation. I have a server 2003 box with wss v 2.0 and sql 2000 on it and it seems to be dying. I would like to move my exsisting installations to a new server. The server will be a completely different machine, with different hard drive set-up and with a different box name and domain. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what steps I should take to make this change? What about my AD users, will they have to be migrated as well or will stsadmin do all of that?     - drop-down for top navigation bar I noticed in MOSS 2007 they've added the functionality of showing a drop downlist of subsites. for instance I have a IT site and underneath it is a wiki and a blog that I can just click on from MOSS 2007 from the top navigation drop-down list.     - Error opening documents I'm getting the following error when opening a new or existing document in WSS v2. SysFader: iexplore.exe - Application Error : The exception unknown software exception (0xc06d007f) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812a5b. It will allow me to open when i'm in Explorer view. I can also open it in office using the http:// path. I'm running IE 7 and Office 2003. I've reinstalled IE7 and done a repair in Office.     - Potentially excessive number of SPRequest objects I got this error when trying to go to edit mode on my web part pages. The error was caused by an invalid XSL transformation that I created in Site Root > Style Library > XSL Style Sheets > ItemStyle.xsl. Try reverting to the original .xsl file to fix the problem. Note that your web parts may function correctly in non-edit modes, and that your XSL transformations may even render correctly.     - Pass an argument to a survey? Hi all, is it possible to pass an argument into a survey, via the URL? I would like to create a customer survey response from our CRM tool, passing it the event reference number. So, for example, we'd automatically send an email to the user inviting them to complete the survey at the following URL; http://edn-web-02/sites/ServiceCentre/Lists/InternalIncidentSurvey/NewForm.aspx?THE-INCIDENT-IS=12345 And the last bit (I know the syntax is wrong!) would update one of the columns in the survey response. Ideally that field would be hidden / read-only, but that's less of an issue than passing in the correct reference in the first place.     - Using Sharepoint's Windows explorer funtion not working with Vista Hi I have been using sharepoint 3.0 with my clinet PC running XP pro and office 2007 beta2 for some time now and have been using the document folder browsing trough windows explorer feature on a daily basis as it have been working great for me! But when I upgraded to Vista and Office 2007 this does not work anymore! I can syncronize a document folder trough Outlook but when I click on "open in windows explorer" trough the WSS 3.0 web page nothing happens! Its really frustrating that this does not work anymore! Can anyone help me! Is this a problem with my configuration or a Vista problem. By the way, one of the folders I have tried to map have shown up in web folders in my explorer view. How I managed to get it showing here, and why just only this one folder I don't know. And an other issue, how the h**** am I'm supposed to use Groove with the sharepoint doc folder when groove won't let you add a Web folder???     - Sharepoint supported in AD 2000 and Exchange 2000 - incoming email Hi, Are WSS3 and also MOSS2007 supported in an Active Directory 2000 domain with Exchange Server 2000?? I've tried to enable incoming email in both WSS3 and MOSS2007, but both seems to have the same issue. I've setup incoming email as described (also followed the guidelines from other people like the Whitepaper on Combined Knowledge), but without any luck. When I create a distribution group with email address (without creating new list) and want to approve the creation of Distribution group, I get an error. When I look in the Sharepoint log file I see the following error: "System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException (0x8007200A): The specified directory service attribute or value does not exist.     - SPImport Problems Hi All, I'm trying to programmatically move a site from one SiteCollection to another using the SPExport and SPImport APIs. I'm able to successfully do it through stsadm.exe -o export (and import) commands, but I'm not able to import the exported file using the API. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I thought there might be someone that could help.     - Change time interval in custom list We have a custom list in Sharepoint. In a column we use the type Date and Time. The time field seems to be limited to 5 minutes interval (0.5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55) We would change this to 1 minute instead. Is there a way to change this?     - WSS Dispaly issue This is a rather weir issue I've had before. I have three sections on our welcome page created as list. A Message of the day list, alert list, and company news list. For some reason for one user only the company news section is missing. I've seen this in the past and I had to basically delete the user and recreat etthe account and this solved the problem.     - Save site as template "Include content" missing Hi, I'm fairly new to sharepoint but have managed to set up a main site which contains a meeting workspace. I've added several users to the antendees list and defind a few agenda points. I'd now like to save this site as a template, including the list content.     - wss 3.0: Bug? : Custom list - export to excel issues Hi, I have a custom list that was imported from excel. After, import and setting up some choice fields I tried the export to excel function and it worked properly. Then, i set some required field validations. Note some rows did not have data in some of these required fields.     - Can't edit document or create new document I have a user who just changed to a new workstation with Vista and Office 2003. Prior to changing to the new workstation, the user could create new documents and edit old documents from the Sharepoint site. Now the only way the user can edit a document is to open it from within Word. I have done Method 2 suggested in the article at http:// support.microsoft.com/kb/833714/en-us; I tried to do Method 3, but I get a message that regsvr32 is unable to complete the operation.     - Login dialog comes again and again for reader The problem is seems to be with priviledge issue. We used WSS 2.0. I'm the administrator of a share point site, and when I am trying to use the Reader priviledge to allow users to view, but they are requested to login, which fails. Means login dialog comes again and again... But if I give them the contributor priviledge they are to view, but that priviledge also gives them the ablitiy to delete and update.     - Removing membership of sites I create Hey Usually when I create a team site on sharepoint, I do so by logging into the admin user and making it that way. WHen logged in as admin I then see all the team sites available, as usual. A couple of times recently I've created some sites using my own account - to my horror they are now displayed on my 'My Teams' list. Even after removing myself as a user for those sites, they still show and I still have membership of them as I created them. How can I stop this so that only designated users can go in and I can't?     - move WSS v3 to 'Default' website? I'm a total newbie when it comes to WSS and am stumbling along at light speed! Anyways I did have WSS v2 and FP Extensions running together - kinda ok - and decided to upgrade to WSS v3. Rather than spend days trying to figger' why the last part of the WSS v3 upgrade kept failing I uninstalled FP Extensions, uninstalled WSS v2, rebooted and did the v3 install after the reboot. It worked - or, at least installed - just fine. However the new v3 Site is subfoldered way down below the original Default Web site and I had to manually change the 'Default Website' port to anything other than 80 to prevent conflict. Is there any way I can make the WSS v3 relocate to be the real 'Default Website' or, should I just totally uninstall IIS and start from scratch - it's a good time to do it.. I also appear to seem to have to log on with \default.aspx at the end of the URL rather than just the URL. I get the authentication box when I log on from the internet but, after I put in username and password I get the 'page not found'. If I put in default.aspx at the end of the URL it works just fine. I'm a newbie here and somehow this just doesn't seem - the best - install? and I don't want to right click and delete the Default Website because of the WSS v3 site default install beneath...     - Sharepoint server not seeing contentdb? When I enumerate users on a Sharepoint site (stsadm.exe -o enumusers) I get a different list from what's in the contentdb. Now this all started when restoring a contentdb from a backup. It was a restore of a site but for long complicated reasons the site, which lives on a different server, had to be created from scratch, and the old contentdb used. To get it all to work we had to change various IDs in the contentdb using queries in Enterprise Manager. The Sharepoint administrator gui had been told to use the contentdb, but something, somewhere, isn't marrying them up. The portal uses AD Creation mode. Somewhere the users on the WSS 2.0 server aren't married up with the contentdb and/or their AD objects, because deleting them and changing passwords via the portal itself doesn't affect the contentdb properly. Does anyone know what the relationship between the 3 elements are and where to change it. Also, best practice for restoring the DB using Enterprise manager .baks or backup exec sql backups? Is it vital that the original site be restored? Or is creating the IIS instance from scratch with an old contentdb possible, and if so how?     - WSS 3.0 accessing via anonymous and mobile browser I've setup a WSS 3.0 site and granted anonymous access to the entire site. I've also added a Task list and granted it special rights to allow anonymous users to add, edit and delete that list. It works fine in IE and Firefox when using the primary web interface (http:// website), but if I use the mobile web interface (http://website/m) it asks for credentials when I try and access that list.     - Can't access top level site after wss 3 upgrade Upgrade completed fine with no errors but I can't access the top level site but i can access all sites under it. I have checked the iss logs and it is getting a 401 error which is unauthorised The error on the web page is An unexpected error has occurred I have tried all different security settings on the default web site with no luck.     - Has anyone really used the Site Users web part? Have you noticed that, no matter the user's permission level or group, the web part still shows the "Add a user" link? The user can see the add user page, fill in the fields, and only gets rejected after they click the OK button. In addition, it seems to show only the membership of the "Members" group, regardless of the real membership of the current user (such as Owner or Visitor).     - Anonymous access on lists only on wss 3 Hi all, I need to be able to allow anonymous users to a list in a site only. not to all the other lists and other content, only to one list and be able to add items. I have configured the site to allow anonymous access and when i go into the permissions for the list, I select the anonymous access option but when sharepoint navigates to it, the options are all greyed out.     - WSS 3.0 Calendar view missing dates This is strange!. On 1st of Feb our month view of calendars DROPPED DATES!. First I heard was when an office administrator reported that nearly all dates from April 1st onwards had disappeared from the Sharepoint calendar.... I found that toggling views sometimes got them back but not always. I found I can consistently repeat this by clicking 1st of a month whilst in month view. After closing the single day, when navigate to another month, dates disappear!!. I narrowed to this: If you open the calendar view of the list using a url ie https://yourdomain/Lists/Calendarname/calendar.aspx?CalendarPeriod=month&CalendarDate=01%2F04%2F2007 The view keeps dates up to the 1st of the month but drops most entries after it. If you move the day choice to 2nd of the month or last day of the last month, the problem goes away!. I've just installed WSS V3 on a standard Win 2003 server and it does not
work. I cannot access the central administartion website, it doesn't load
up. The configuration izard wen tthrough fine and there were no errors.
Where do I start to find out what is wrong and how do I fix it?

The only other programs installed on it are Backup Exec and SQL Express.
