    - combobox keeps being selected? Hi All, I have a form with several comboboxes and DBcombo's. When I load the form one of the comboboxes is always marked as selected although the setfocus is on the first box.     - using vb6.exe /make without installation We have a complex build environment with several buildserver. We use many different languages and tools, so we don't want to install the hole environment(even not VB6_SP5) on every machine, but the servers are used in random mode (that one thats available gets the build-task). We just copy the used tools to the buildservers when they're needed. Is there a chance to create exe-Files via command line with the "vb6.exe /make" - command without installing Visual Basic first?     - Moving and editing a remote file I have two servers (SRV1 and SRV2) and a workstation WS. WS has to move an ASCII file from SRV1 to SRV2 and at the same time replace the first 512 characters of the file with other values. A simply way to do: first read the file from SRV1 in a variable of WS, then replace the first 512 chars, finally write the variable in a file of SRV2. But this seems not be very efficient and fast, especially if you have to modify and move a lot of files in a loop. Is there any suggestion for a fast way to do that? Thank you for replying.     - Runtime Error 11: Division by zero I'm new to VB but this problem fell into my lap today. We have an executable that is running on a Windows 2000 server that zips and ftp's a file. The code has been running fine for the last 3 years. However, our admin installed a security update (it looks like KB37001) as well as some other things and the program isn't working right now. If the scheduler starts the program and it tries to run, we get an '11-Division by zero' error in Main. We wanted to debug the code to see if we could find where it failed. So we put in a few simple MsgBox()'s to let us know where we were breaking down. After doing that, we restarted the job, it popped up our messages correctly, but from there it ran fine. No runtime errors. We didn't make any other changes. At first we thought that there were some corrupt dll's so we took the code that was working that had the MsgBox()'s, removed them and recompiled it. When we tried to run it without the popups, the error shows up. We have unregistered/registered all the dlls we could find but that didn't help. We're completely stumped. No matter where we put the MsgBox() it stops the program from breaking just as long as it's there. If we don't have it, it will fail. Any ideas would be a great help.     - Using IBM MQ from VB - 2 MQ Server connections I have build some VB code that gets and puts messages off /on a queue. I have run into a major obstacle . . . I need to connect to 2 different MQ servers (reading from one, writing to another). I have read that since each MQ server connection must be in a seperate thread, you cannot connect to 2 seperate MQ servers within VB (since VB is single threaded). Can anyone give me any advice on how to proceed because I need to build an application where: I will be reading off of one MQ (server 1) and putting messages onto another MQ server.     - Userform to SQL to update help I have never done any programing from vb to modify a table so bear with me. I have a table that I want to update/add/delete records from. To do this I will use a userform that I will create in VB. I am not sure how to start this. How do you call the table in the database. How do you write to it? ETC. If someone can point me in the right direction to get to the table and do this I can do the rest. The goal with writing this in vb is that the exe can reside on another users workstation to preform the functions that I define. As I said new to interacting with sql from vb.     - vb6 sp6 not nice vb6 sp6 breaks to much stuff. I dont get why there is so little questions on this. I put this on a few test machines and tried to compile some of my stuff. Every software product we have fails at some point in at least one file. These are large projects with a minimum of 20 files to be built for each piece of software. This is not good.     - wmi classes and vbscript I'm working with VBScript and WMI Win32 classes. The Win32_USBControllerDevice.Dependent property returns a reference to a CIM_LogicalDevice object. However, I am not able to (maybe because I dont know how) invoke any CIM_LogicalDevice property or method using that reference. I thought the "dot" notation would work but it gave me an error.     - Problems During Paste/Formatting of Tables From Excel to Word I am using VBA based in an Excel spreadsheet to generate a large number (> 100) of large tables (some > 200 rows), which are then copied/pasted to a Word document. After pasting, they are formatted for appearance During the pasting/formatting process, I have run into several problems. I add a line of text (font style HeadingX) above each table, and sometimes the text comes out Normal. Sometimes the tables are not formatted. Sometimes I receive an error in Excel (where the program is based) stating that it is waiting for an OLE operation to end in another application.     - Disconnection I am using winsock to connect to a server and get information from it. Sometimes my client is not able to connect to the server (possibly because of a failure on my LAN network) and a message of WINSOCK ERROR 10060 appears; if I do not click on it it does not disappear, so my client is not able to reconnect even if it were able to do it. Clicking a this message is not what I want, because the client must be able to get information all the time What I would like to do is skip to someother subroutine if the client is not able to connect to the server instead of waiting to reconnect.     - VB6 SP6 Broke ASP Pages! (Sorry for cross-posting, but no one seems to know the answer to this!) Help! I am having the exact same problem that Stephen Hahn was having in an earlier thread. Yesterday (4/22/04), I "upgraded" Visual Basic 6 from Service Pack 5 to Service Pack 6. Everything went well and everything seems to run smoothly, with the exception of the issue below. I tried uninstalling VB and reinstalling VB with SP5. No luck. VB has successfully been reverted to SP5, but my ASP pages still don't work. I also tried uninstalling & reinstalling IIS to "reset" whatever went wrong. Also no luck. Can anyone offer any advice?! I need to be able to debug ASP pages on my local IIS server. (I am running Windows XP.) Stephen Hahn's previous post: After installing SP6 IIS no longer will serve ASP pages. When trying to browse an ASP application the following message is recorded in the event log: The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/RMAdmin'. The error was 'General access denied error' When truing to browse the default page the following message is recorded in the event log: The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT'.     - VB - Crash When Clicked Hi, My vb application runs fine while it is run from VB IDE. However, when an exe file is executed, FEW of the forms crash when user try to click on any of the form buttons without firing the event i.e. code behind the button_click event doesn't executed. Program run fine if mouse is not used for clicking buttons. Strangely it doesn't happen with all forms. VB Form crashs in all windows from 98-2003 but doesn't crahes only in Windows 2000 Datacenter. My VB Application uses TextControl, buttons and MSFlexGrid. It doesn't use any mouse events other then button_click event :(.     - Listview - is the entry and checkbox one and the same? Is it possible to select a listview entry without having the checkbox ticked? ie is there a way of 1. Checking a box but without selecting that entry. 2. Selecting an entry (mouse click) without having the box checked The only way I can do the above is if I select a different entry by moving the cursor up and down using the keyboard. If I click on an entry then the checkbox is also selected (FullRowSelect is set to false). Am I using the right control? Should I be using 2 listboxes side by side - which seems somewhat daft. Or just thought, maybe bodge it ie maybe check a select event against a checkedbox event (not sure if there is one) ie if both called then call the checkedbox event again to toggle it back.     - VB6 GURU - Dialog Boxes - Incorrect Size HELP!!! I had to reload Visual studio and now when I go into the Projects > Components or Project > Propertes.... I get the dialog box but the windows size is Too small... I am Running Widnows NT 4 and have loaded VB6 SP6b - I checked the font size in the windows display settings and they are set to small fonts When I go into the Project > Properties I see everything down to Required License Key (just below that) and the screen cuts off just after Startup Object: - the OK / Cancel / Help show up at the bottom Whe I go into the Project > Components I see everything to the frame title below the list of components but I don't see the path that should be showing below the title and I can see only part of the image of controls that show on the right - it cuts off after the middle images (data control) I can only see part of the check box below the browse button...     - write info to db from scanner hi all I am preparing to build a pretty big app for a local business. Problem is, I have a large amount of dat held on paper forms that date back decades. I need an easy way to get this info in a db I was thinking about using a scanner to pull the hand written information from the forms and to read it directly into my db.     - msvbvm60.dll I was going to ask if anyone has every looked into breaking a VB application away from using the msvbvm60.dll ? I've noticed that that is a very large file and there's a lot of routines incorporated into it. I haven't gotten too far into it yet. And based upon the size of the file, I'm not sure I want to even go there. I guess I'm dreaming again. :-) Too many dreams. I see it would be a lot of work to pull the routines out of that msvbvm60.dll and put it into the executable that's created during a VB compilation.     - Run in the background I am trying to make an application run in the background with timer events. It works when it's the foreground window but when it's minimized or even lost focus the timer won't work anymore. It might solve it if there were a way to use always on top but the app would still not run if it doesn't have the focus.
