    - Are there sites to remotely test very small pieces of C++ on cross platforms in case MS' C++/ specs are suspicious? In case of failures by MS's VC++ 7.1, and in order to get a better sense whether it is the compiler or C++ specifications (which I am mostly suspecious of), I would like to try it on different platforms. I am talking of course in cases the compilation+linking passes succesfully (on MS (and Borland C++BuilderX)) and the output is unacceptable. I am sure (99.99%,... I must leave room to an error on my part...) that the problem is either in the compiler and / or the C++ standard specifications. For example, in one case, ALL the program does is outputing typeid(s) of pointers of 3 instanciated templates where some of the pointers members point to objects that have not been even declared at all... at the expense of missing pointers types to object that have been instanciated.     - Performance monitor doesn't work anymore with W2K3 Hi I have some services that, under Windows 2000, exposed objects in performance monitor so I could monitor it's activity. The problem is that, on Windows 2003, it doesn't work anymore, if the component is registered as a service.     - Are the but standard C++ functions such as itoa(int,char*) supported or not??? itoa(int,char*) is still a standard c++ function. Yet, the documentation of Visual Studio .Net 2003 does not show it in any normal way - it is mentioned as "side effects" in 4 results search but does not specify the required include file. If I use the global resolution symbol ::itoa(int,char*) it does not deny the function altogether but claims that the function does not take 2 arguments (rather than telling me how many it is expected).     - How to get text from message WM_SETTEXT, etc Hi. I'm trying to trap WM_SETTEXT messages using system hooks and all seems to be going well with the hooking process (i.e. I get the messages and they correspond to the same messages I see in Spy++,) but for the life of me I cant figure out how to get at the string: "lParam - Pointer to a null-terminated string that is the window text." All attempts to strlen(lParam) or strcpy(lParam) just cause havoc. I regularly work with the .NET framework, but most of my C/C++ experience is very rusty and was very unix-centric to begin with. I'm assuming that I'm missing something here, like having to marshal the string across processes (the messages are being snatched from another process) or having to envelope the whole copying affair in a critical section or perhaps even just using different APIs than the good ol' stdio.h stuff.     - /clr option and CFileDialog Hi: I have added /clr option to my application, because I am working about the specific culture in order to be able to load the appropiate only-resource dll. But I have got a new problem, and I think is not directly related with the problem of the specific culture, else with a new problem with the using of CFileDialog. If I don´t use /clr option, my dialogs (CFileDialog) work fine, but if I put that option, when I lunch a CFileDialog, it shows files associated to my default extension, but if I selected any other extension, the files view is blank. The only way to see the associated files is changing the current folder. When I modify the folder (I go out, or I go back again to the default u other folder ) I see again files associated to the required extension. I don´t understand what is happened, because if I clean the /clr option my dialogs are fine again. When I use the designer, I create a ListView that I can access using GetDlgItem(the_id). But I noticed that as long as the SetImageList() is called, the image will show un-expectly for all items in the 1st column. When the 1st column is inserted, only lvi.mask = LVIF_TEXT | LVIF_PARAM is specified, there is no image here. Not sure what is going on. Below is the code to create the CImageList.     - any training available on configuring VS & VC++ I'm looking to get some training in how to configure Visual Studio & Visual C++. We know C++ fairly well (migrating from a Sun environment), we don't understand configuration issues and this is becoming a stumbling block. We have an SDK that doesn't use namespaces to isolate things, we have other libraries that do have namespaces that end up with conflicts with the purchased SDK. I'm sure there are ways to resolve these issues, but they require someone who understands more of the in's and out's of configuration issues that are eluding us. We are trying to add some software engineering methodologies to this such as using CPPUnit that fail when linking with the SDK. There are things like how the syntax editor can be set to recognize non-CPP file extensions as C++ syntax and have it "stick". How a project workspace and a project work together - we have a project where the various checkboxes and menu items say "use multi-threaded library - /MT" but the PLG file shows /MD and then the compiler issues warnings about needing to use the DLL version of the libraries. I checked with Learning Tree and they tried to sell me a course on Crystal Reports, obviously there is a keyword match in there somewhere, but that probably wouldn't help much. I would like to say that we could accumulate this gradually, but we have been struggling with this for months and have made little progress.     - Advice on DLL parameters please Hi, I have an Excel spreadsheet that contains a VBA macro. However, this runs slowly! I have written the code in C++ which works. Currently the interface between the VBA / Excel system and the C++ program is via a file. i.e. data is exported in Excel & read into the C++ program, processed & written out to a file by C++ & them imported into Excel. I know I can use a DLL written in C++ & callable from VBA (i've already done that). I've mastered the problems of calling a DLL with an array parameter sucessfully too. My question is, is there a maximum amount of data that I can pass through a DLL call? Either a physical maximum limit, or an advisable maximum. Any advice / explanation would be greatly appreciated. As you could see, my GTrayIcon implemented had a member variable NOTIFYICONDATA. The declaration of this member variable is dependent on the value of _WIN32_IE. In other words, the size of the structure is dependent is dependent on a preprocessor define. As luck would have it, in the file calling new, _WIN32_IE was declared as 0x0400 and the constructor implementation _WIN32_IE was declared as 0x0560. Can you guys help me before I go bald? Since it's a memory heap error: HEAP[WebMedia.exe]: Heap block at 003376A8 modified at 003376EC past requested size of 38 I'm having a very hard time figuring it out what exactly is causing it. I tried to remove as much code as possible while keeping the error still there. Then I tried to use "AppVerifier", "gflags", "Windbg" to understand where the error is coming from with very little success. I'm running an MFC app, in debug mode, on Windows XP Pro.     - The Removable Storage Manager, WM_DEVICECHANGE, and other fun stuff... I'm writing a utility that needs to be aware of media (CD, DVD, Zip disk, usb stick, etc) insertions and removals. Which seems to be more of a problem than I original imagined. I can't use any auto-run features because this is actually running on Windows XP Embedded... so that's the first thing to be aware of. Using WM_DEVICECHANGE works about half the time...that is, it works when a DVD or CD is inserted, but it does not work for Zip disks, usb sticks, etc. I looked into the Removable Storage Manager, or RSM, but the descriptions for it on MSDN changes enough that I'm not 100% that it is applicable. I'd write a test application but the definition is rather deep and there seem to be some key elements missing from the documentation.     - can my library link with a library Hello, I'm trying to create a static library for use by another developer. I'm somewhat new to libraries, so my question may not make sense, but here is what I'm wondering: Suppose my library calls functions that require linking with other libraries. Can I build my library such that it includes those dependent libraries as one entitiy? That way this other developer will link with my library and will be done.     - Unexpected behaviour of enums Hello, developers, the current behaviour of enumerations in both VC6 and VC7.1 (I have no VC7.0 at my hands) seems very unexpected. The following snippet enum E { e1 = static_cast<unsigned int>(-1) }; typedef bool is_positive[e1 > 0 ? 1 : -1]; does not compile successfully **with enabled language extensions** although it does so using /Za mode (which is standard-conforming). Is the behaviour in /Ze mode by design? A recent discussion in comp.lang.c++.mod seems to lead to the conclusion, that the observed behaviour should be wrong even if it is supposed to reflect C(99) rules. So even if the 'enum is actually int' rule is followed strictly, one should expect, that the expression inside enum E { e1 = static_cast<unsigned int>(-1) }; should not compile. I am doing a project on making an h.323 gatekeeper using h.323 protocol stack. I am supposed to use h323 libraries available as an opensource on www.openh323.org . After compiling the code, i got some dlls, associated lib files and all the header files. But when i include them in my mfc dialog based project, and derive some h323 class, i get an error. In addition there are many linking errors too. like i have a file pprocess.h but it gives me a message that "unable to open include file pprocess.h"

If anyone in you has worked on these h.323 libraries, please help me out. I'll be extremely grateful to you
