    - partitions Hi I partitioned my hard disk into 3 primary partitions, 1 extended partition with 2 logical partitions. The list of all partitions from diskpart (or from disk management MMC) is the following: Partition 1 - Primar Partition 2 - Primar Partition 3 - Extende Partition 4 - Logica Partition 5 - Logica Partition 6 - Primar I write a C++ tool to get the position of the last primary partition (in the example above is #6) using IOCTL_DISK_GET_DRIVE_LAYOUT_EX. However, when I iterate the partitions (PARTITION_INFORMATION_EX) in DRIVE_LAYOUT_INFORMATION_EX, it returns all the primary partitions first then the rests, i.e. partition 6 above becomes partition 3 Does anyone know why? Does primary partition takes higher precedence than extended/logical partition?     - Looking for best practices in designing a form and retrieving values Hello. I've been designing forms in VC++ 6.0 for a little while now. But I have a nagging question about best practices in retrieving the data from the form. I am just now starting to use data exchange, which reduces the code I needed, but I still don't know if it is best to allow the data from the form to be public and easily accessible, or if I should write set and retrieve functions within the form. Noone else is using the form so hiding data isn't necessary. Are there any other considerations that I might take into account in making public variables or private variables with accessor functions?     - Delete all files with "a pattern" Hi all, I would like to delete from a directory all the files that match: bar*.* I know that I could do for instance: system("del bar*.*"), but this will bring up the command prompt window and as my app is a winmain app this wouldn't be nice. I could use DeleteFile, but you can not use wildcards in this one. How could I do this using Windows functions?     - fatal error C1055 compiler limit : out of keys Hello, what can I do against this error (using vc7.1)? I get it in my debug build. The release build compiles fine. The error appears in assert calls. This is really annoying. How many symbols are allowed? Can this be changed with some compiler option?     - Help. We have created an activex Ctrl using MFC. It has serialize method in its COleControl derived class. Now myActiveX control is inserted in a powerpoint presentation. Whenever power point slideshow ends, then the serialize method is getting called. How to avoid serialize method is getting called at the end of slide show mode or slide changes?     - How can VC build a cpp file not in a project? I'm working with VC++ 7, but I think this rather dumb question is C++ related rather than Vis Studio related. I am trying to use log4cpp, and I downloaded the zip files. When I wish to use it in my code I can #include the required header file. However, when I build I get link problems. This is because the cpp files are not being found or compiled. I can tell VS to look in the correct folder for the cpp, but that's not enough (C++ Directories). Am I missing something here? I don't see why I should expect the compiler to compile these library files but I do. Should I compile them as a separate project do you think? I must say that I don't understand pre-compiled headers either - is this something I should be looking at! I know this is Vis Studio biased, but the problem is that there's a general principle I don't understand. Can you help? Please excuse the extreme stupidity of this post.     - Are there sites to remotely test very small pieces of C++ on cross platforms in case MS' C++/ specs are suspicious? In case of failures by MS's VC++ 7.1, and in order to get a better sense whether it is the compiler or C++ specifications (which I am mostly suspecious of), I would like to try it on different platforms. I am talking of course in cases the compilation+linking passes succesfully (on MS (and Borland C++BuilderX)) and the output is unacceptable. I am sure (99.99%,... I must leave room to an error on my part...) that the problem is either in the compiler and / or the C++ standard specifications. For example, in one case, ALL the program does is outputing typeid(s) of pointers of 3 instanciated templates where some of the pointers members point to objects that have not been even declared at all... at the expense of missing pointers types to object that have been instanciated. Could not go much wrong with such a program. For commercial reasons, I am not at liberty to publish the code. Thanks in advance.     - Performance monitor doesn't work anymore with W2K3 Hi I have some services that, under Windows 2000, exposed objects in performance monitor so I could monitor it's activity.     - Are the but standard C++ functions such as itoa(int,char*) supported or not??? itoa(int,char*) is still a standard c++ function. Yet, the documentation of Visual Studio .Net 2003 does not show it in any normal way - it is mentioned as "side effects" in 4 results search but does not specify the required include file. If I use the global resolution symbol ::itoa(int,char*) it does not deny the function altogether but claims that the function does not take 2 arguments (rather than telling me how many it is expected). I'm trying to trap WM_SETTEXT messages using system hooks and all seems to be going well with the hooking process (i.e. I get the messages and they correspond to the same messages I see in Spy++,) but for the life of me I cant figure out how to get at the string: "lParam - Pointer to a null-terminated string that is the window text." All attempts to strlen(lParam) or strcpy(lParam) just cause havoc. I regularly work with the .NET framework, but most of my C/C++ experience is very rusty and was very unix-centric to begin with. I'm assuming that I'm missing something here, like having to marshal the string across processes (the messages are being snatched from another process) or having to envelope the whole copying affair in a critical section or perhaps even just using different APIs than the good ol' stdio.h stuff. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? It seems like "getting the text" from a message should be a fairly straightforward task.     - /clr option and CFileDialog Hi: I have added /clr option to my application, because I am working about the specific culture in order to be able to load the appropiate only-resource dll. But I have got a new problem, and I think is not directly related with the problem of the specific culture, else with a new problem with the using of CFileDialog. If I don´t use /clr option, my dialogs (CFileDialog) work fine, but if I put that option, when I lunch a CFileDialog, it shows files associated to my default extension, but if I selected any other extension, the files view is blank. The only way to see the associated files is changing the current folder. When I modify the folder (I go out, or I go back again to the default u other folder ) I see again files associated to the required extension. I don´t understand what is happened, because if I clean the /clr option my dialogs are fine again. This means that one of the steps in a custom build returned a code that VC
thinks is an error. You can open your Project Settings and look under
Custom Build Step or maybe it is from a file specified in your project. Did
the VC6 project contain a help project? It could possibly be this.
