    - Inline ASM and OOP Hello, I wrote a pretty nice D3D framework in C++. Everything is done in classes and it all works great. Now I want to make a special version of it that is as small as possible. But I want to keep all the classes and basically maintain full compatibility with the "full" system. Some features will of course be left out, but otherwise I shouldn't have to change any code in the applications using the system. >From the beginning I already had this in my head so I can comment almost every feature out with a lot of #defines. And it gets a lot smaller. But now I want to push it to the limit using ASM. I figured I can decrease the total code size by at least a couple of k's when applying all my nasty tricks :) Anyway, I just got started and already ran into the first 2 problems: 1) I'm using VC6 and apparently imports aren't handled automatically when an API function is only called from an ASM block. Manually importing all functions seems a bit unnecessary so anyone knows of a better solution? 2) OOP. I know how to access data members of an object, but can't figure out how to call member functions. It seems MS's compiler wastes a lot of bytes for every "Object *bla = new Object()" so I'd really like to have that in ASM. But I have no clue how to call the constructor of the object. A sidenote.. Code readability is not really an issue here. My framework is in a stable state right now, and this small version is going to be for hacky 64k versions. This version of the framework will exist purely to get it as small as possible. Every dword counts :) I googled for quite a while now without getting any usable results.     - Why not to save the file in VC++ 6.0 IDE Hi After edited some source files(.cpp or .h) in VC++ 6.0 IDE, I wanted to save it.     - Template Member Function Parameters I have some code from an open source project I'm trying to port to VC6 SP5 I'm having trouble passing a parameter to a template member function. I'm not new to templates, but this one goes a bit deeper then I've ever delved.     - can't see debug information after program crash on XP I'm running my code in VC++ 6.0 on WinXP under debug mode. Every time it meets memory error, e.g. access violation, a messagebox popup, then I choose "debug", another messagebox popup saying some address can't be read. After click on the "ok" button, every active window will be shut down and I can't see which line of code cause the problem.     - Keyboard input Hi, I have a program which controls the mouse and keyboard by installing system hooks. Both are controlled via pre-recorded data and call SendInput based on this data. The data consists of nothing more than what key was pressed, where the mouse moved, etc. What I'm looking for is a way to disable the user from physically pressing any keyboard button except escape. I found BlockInput in MSDN, which would be very useful, except it disables all physical input.     - Is it possible to make a MFC dialog In-Proc when called from and ATL COM from VB? Hi, I have an ATL COM object that contains a MFC Dialog. One method of my ATL must allow me to display the dialog in modal (DoModal). I use this ATL COM in my VB app. I want to call the ATL Method from my VB app to make the MFC dialog appear in modal. The problem is : The dialog appears, but is not in-proc. So I receive a message each time I click on the parent window (not a beep sound, but really a message). Is it possible at all to make my dialog appear in-proc or it is a limitation of the COM (or VB) usage? Someone talked to me about In-Proc server, but I really don't understand this concept.     - LNK2005: function already defined My workspace consists of two projects, one Win32 application project and one static library project. The code is in fact in C language instead of C++. Some of the funcitons declared and defined in the file that contains WinMain() is in conflict with other functions of the same name in the library project.     - Newbie question: Calling VB function from a C DLL w/out crashing VB I have been scratching my head for several hours now trying (yet again - gave up the first time) to successfully call a Visual Basic function from a C DLL, place a watch on a string passed ByVal, and exit the function ALL without crashing VB. As long as I don't actually look at the contents of the passed string, it works great! Soon as I look at it, though, VB up and dies _after_ exiting the VB function. Does anyone know how to do this? I've tried it using character pointer, BSTRs, user-defined data types, and nothing works. I've tried allocating memory for the BSTRs using SysAllocString and not freeing the memory using FreeSysString (and flip-side calling FreeSysString) and nothing works.     - problem with spin control Hello! I am trying to display both an edit and a spin control inside a toolbar. so i added both of them, and set the edit to be a buddy for the spin. When the toolbar is displayed, they seem pretty happy together, but as soon as I click inside the edit, spin disappears and you have to redraw the whole toolbar for it to come back. When you drag the spin conrol to a dialog resource, it works fine, but here I am trying to do the same thing programmatically. Perhaps, I am missing some steps...     - Problem using, ATL COM, CString and vector in a tree structure Hi, I'm developing an ATL COM Object that contains a tree structure. ` This structure is defined like this : struct SPreferenceObject { CString strKey; CString strControlType; CString strText; long lLeft; long lTop; long lWidth; long lHeight; vector<IPreferenceObject*> Children; }; I'm in the class CPreferenceObject that is the implementation of IPreferenceObject (CoClass). When I want to add a child to the structure, I do a CoCreateInstance of a new IPreferenceObject with the clsid of CPreferenceObject... well, this part seems to work fine since I'm able to put the information and get it back. But, until now, I was able to add up to 3 nodes then it crashed. If I add a 4th node(1 root, the 3 leaves), it crashes. When I add 3 nodes in one branch (1 root, 1 branch, 1 leaf = the root has one child, and this child has 1 child too), it crashes too. I would need to send the code so you can see what is the problem, but the groups does not accept binaries. So if someone want to help, I can send them the code by e-mail. I really needs it. I am currently working on a VB project and find myself needing to do what I am calling interface substitution. Specially, I am wondering if it's possible, in COM, to temporarily substitute a particular interface on an object with the same interface of a different object. I would like to replace the ICollection interface on one of my objects with a "visitor's" ICollection interface and then replace the original interface after I have done some operations on the ICollection. Of course, this all needs to be transparent to the caller. If this is possible, can someone provide some C++ code samples? How can I connect the CDaoRecordset with my MySQL database? In the wizard I only can connect the CDaoRecordset with a database file (*.mdb) but ir doesn't give the option to use another type of database. 2.     - precompiled headers causing link errors Hi, we're using precompiled headers in our project. Our object files are put in a library and then linked with a main object to produce the executable. During the library creation we get: warning LNK4006: ___@@_PchSym_@00@UwvevolknvmgUhxsvwfoviPozhgUhlfixvUzurPzhh Olyq@ already defined in ... second definition ignored and then when linking together with the main object we get: error LNK2005: ___@@_PchSym_@00@UwvevolknvmgUtnkEPozhgUhlfixvUtknPCdzbxlme vigOlyq@ already defined in ... We used precompiled headers before and didn't have these problems, until recently we introduced boost. I wander if it has something to do with using templates in precompiled headers...
