    - Count running instances and user privileges on windows 2k3 Hello, I encounter a problem when counting, using semaphore, how many instances are running on my TSE server. A non privileged user can access my semaphore an administrator user sets for example. I'm currently looking at AdjustTokenPrivileges and SetPrivilege, but I get error 1030 error_not_all_assigned when calling AdjustTokenPrivileges on my 2k3 user. Am I wrong ? Tag: colors Tag: 284389

    - Class wizard not generating stdafx.h I have programmed in c and c++ for years but I am just introducing myself to the Windows API and MFC. I started on MFC with this tutorial http://www.codersource.net/samples/mfc_tutorial_5.zip To make a long story short ... I edited a dialog box resource, saved it, then went through the class wizard to create a new class. Basically step by step through that web page. It generated NewDialog.cpp and NewDialog.h, but didn't generate stdafx.h or script3.h . (The resource is named script3). I googled on this, stdafx.h and the resource header file are apparently supposed to be generated by the class wizard, I wasn't able to find anybody else with the same problem, does anybody know what might be causing this (a project setting maybe?) or an alternate way to generate them? I could probably use a generic stdafx.h like this http://tinyurl.com/yvpl7o from reading about it, it looks like it is usually pretty standard, but script3.h should have some necessary things in it, I don't know what.     - New flyweight template class Hi! I previously posted a flyweight template class, and asked for suggestions on how to improve it (see http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.vc.language/browse_thread/thread/ccf2c8eff4b0043d). Now I present a new version, with some improvements. Tom Widmer had some useful comments that I have incorporated in the new design. I have also used some ideas from the flyweight library that is about to enter boost. The boost version is very complex, using template meta programming and allows all kinds of customization. The version I have designed is usable right away, and can be used on compilers such as VC6 and eVC4 (with the help of STLport). First of all, the flyweight design pattern is useful when you have a large number of small objects, that are very likely to have the same value. In that case it is possible to share the representation between instances. This class attempts to solve this problem in a generic way. For example, I experienced a problem where I had many empty std::strings, each of which takes up 28 bytes when using VC7.1. Using the flyweight class it is only necessary to have one empty string. Now to the improvements. This flyweight template by default uses a hashed container to store values. This container can now be changed (with not much trouble) if you desire. The default behaviour when values are no longer referenced in the factory is to remove them, sort of a simple garbage collection. This happens automatically but can be changed for your factory. It does this by using an internal class that acts as a postfix operator-> wrapper. If you dislike computing hash values, you can use a std::set-based factory.     - detecting uninitialized variable access? I'm getting different output from Debug and Release builds. The former appears more likely to be correct (it's not too obvious, because this program is doing lots of complicated floating point calculations) My first guess would be that there is uninitialized variable access.     - Beginner GUI question I am writing a program in C++ and I want to add a GUI. This program will be more of an application and the GUI will probably get fairly complex. I am using Microsoft Visual C++, version 6.0 (very old). I would just as soon do it visually in the resource editor. I build a dialogue window and MSVC++ creates a .rct file. But now how do I call/instantiate this from my program? The basic call appears to be DialogBox(hInstance, MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDD_DIALOG1), NULL, DialogueProcess) where IDD_DIALOG1 is the name I gave it in the resource builder (original, huh?). When I try to compile though, IDD_DIALOG1 is undefined. Do I need to make a header file or .rc file by hand or something? Do I reference the dialogue in a different way? Is it a setting in the IDE somewhere? Am I going about this in altogether the wrong way? *** <a little off topic> Just for the sake of my pride if nothing else ... I'm not really a beginner, I've programmed in C, C++ and Java for years and written dozens of GUI applications in Java Swing. As you may already know from my previous posts, I am using a CCS compiler to compile my C code for a Microchip! So my problem might be compiler specific. But I don't think so. As I got the error message: error C2065: 'Getarray' : undeclared identifier.... I put the DLL into the directory where the executable for the win32 Console application was to be created.But I still have the same error message.By creating the DLL I included in the project a .def file in order to export the DLL.I also specified the .lib file under Project Settings->Link->Object/Library- Module and I can't understand why the function can't be found.....     - Two function prototypes in two separate .h files Hi, I am beginner to C++ but not to C, though I worked on C some 15 years ago. So I need some help. I was implementing a call to EnumEnhMetaFile () function as per the docs on MSDN. Its prototype is: EnumEnhMetaFile (HDC hdc, ..., CONST RECT * lpRect); I have given only those args that are problematic. Before calling this function, I coded as given below, taking a cue from an example on MSDN. HDC hDc; hDC = GetDC (hWnd); RECT * lpRect; GetClientRect (hWnd, lpRect); bOK = EnumEnhMetaFile (hDc, ..., lpRect); I get compilation errors as follows: 1. On GetDC, it says no args allowed. Also GetDC returns a "CDC *" and not of HDC. 2. On GetClientRect, it says it takes only one arg. If I use "GetClientRect (lpRect)", it compiles but crashes on running. When I try to go to definitions, they point to the prototypes in "afxwin.h" and not to that in "winuser.h". My queries are: 1. I just migrate my project from visual C++ 2003 to visual C++ 2008 express. My application is ment to be executed by shellExecute function by other process (other application). After migration my app finishes immidiatly with 0xc0000034 error code (other words app builded with vc 7.1 works fine and app builded with vc 9.0 failed to initialize).     - C4244 I'm implement ISerializeStream on top of another stream library. ISerializeStream gives lengths as ULONGLONG while the other library uses size_t. I write correct code to ensure that data larger than the largest size_t gets broken into multiple reads. However, even after ensuring that the ULONGLONG value is appropriate, I can't put it into the size_t without getting C4244. What's the proper way to avoid this message in proper code like this?
