    - Peer-to-peer protocol This is a general question about peer-to-peer protocol in C++. Mercy if it shouldn't be placed here. I have a library called vortex, which can make peer-to-peer flow of data in a pretty balanced way. Big Request, Big response, or the opposite way and on a time-to-time basis However, the text book I've got on hand just talks about how to implement it in Java. I will be pleased if there are any vortex users here can share his/her experiences on how to program peer-to-peer protocol in C++ especially in vortex.     - Opening a new Form on top of the main form Basically I wanted to do the following: 1. Open a new form 2. Disable the main form while the new form is loaded.     - Any point in pre-creating a file for write performance? Hi! I'm creating a data accusition system which needs to dump data to disk, basically as fast as possible. I've used aligned buffers (VirtualAlloc) and overlapped unbuffered IO so far. The write speed is good, probably as good as it will get on my system (~35 MB/sec). I sort of expected to see a difference in speed when overwriting an already created file versus writing to a new file (in the favor of the already created file) because the old one would already be 'laid out' on disk. Is this the case? I dont see a difference, but I got a lot of space on my HD. Would it matter if the disk was almost full and badly fragmented? Thanks! Tag: cd burning Tag: 259309

    - Tracking down a access violation Hello, I'm getting an access violation when my program starts up. My program is linked to a few dll's of mine, and I think one of them is causing the access violation. Here's what Visual Studio says (7.1.3088): First-chance exception at 0x02b72e04 (GComm.dll) in runner.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000. The problem is that there is no source to display, only disassembly. I suspect there is a global object that accesses another global object not yet initialized. Can I somehow figure out what code is at location 0x02b72e04 in GComm.dll, or is there a better way? Since this happens before debugging even starts, it is difficult to find the problem.     - OLE2A() problem Hi I'm using OLE2A(bstrVal) at many places in my COM. where bstrVal is usually the parameters passed to the COM method. What happens is that if somebody send bstrVal = NULL, than OLE2A() crashes. Is there any way I could REDEFINE the behaviour of the macro OLE2A so that it can take null argument too and return empty string instead of giving an exception.     - Adjusting printing settings in MFC Greetings! I have an application where a vector font is printed. There are a few parameters (line width and colour, # of rows and columns) that can be adjusted for printing. What I wonder is how I would best integrate it into the printing framework of an MFC SDI application. In particular, I wonder about the following things: - There is a print setup dialog, but that seems to only be a printer setup dialog - is there a way I can add controls to influence the generated layout? - Also, using the print preview, is there a way to either start the print setup dialog or a custom setup dialog so that you can quicker see the effects of your changes? - Lastly, though not that important, why are there only three zoom levels in the preview?     - Icon in a child window! Hello everyone, This question requires you to know "Checker3" program from Petzold's book. All help is appreciated! I started chapter 9 (Child Window controls) of Petzold's book and as I started reading this chapter, it started to reference stuff we did in chapter 7, more particularly the "Checker3" program. So I immediately, stopped what I was reading and went back to review "Checker3" so I would be up to speed with the particularities of this sample program. All is OKAY... But you know silly me ! I always have to dig further than I have to. For the ones that are familliar with this example!!!! I am curious to know, what if we wanted to have a title bar and an icon in every one of the 25 child windows of the checker board. So first of all I tried to add the following line just before we would register the second wndClass window: wndclass.style = CS_HREDRAW |CS_VREDRAW; But then I thought to myself, this doesn't make sence, since this only allows re-drawing when vertical or horizontal resizes are done. So I commented out that line. Then I changed the following line just before we would register the second wndClass window from : wndclass.hIcon = NULL; to wndclass.hIcon = LoadIcon (NULL, IDI_APPLICATION); But that didn't help either. It clearly states on P.301 of Charles Petzold's book where he talks about the 4 fields that are required in the wndClass structure for registering the Checker3_Child class. The field in question is the hIcon field and he says: "The hIcon field is set to NULL because child windows such as the ones in Checker3 do not required Icons" However, what if we would want them to require Icons, is there something to set in CreateWindow or in wndClass or is it just impossible to have Icons or title bars in child windows ? I have read up on the CreateWindow function which for the 3rd parameter (dwStyle)states: "[in] Specifies the style of the window being created. This parameter can be a combination of window styles, plus the control styles indicated in the Remarks section." I looked at the available control styles... I found they don't really apply to what I am trying to do! However I did not try to experiment with them.     - Final and Cieled and nothing in C++ Has the fact that both Java and C# are garbage collected, and C++ in not, anything to do with the fact that there is no language item to prevent a class from being inherired from? I once read that Java and C# implement this feature for preformance, but the C++ creators said it was not worse the effort.     - Iterator problem in VC8 calling clear() on a iterator causes a access violation in my app. It was compiled with VC8 and used to work in VC6. It only crashed in the debug version, release version seams to work. Anyways this is the problem: I am finishing up chapter 8 of Petzold's book (Timers) and I seem to be stuck at the last program sample called "WhatClr" on page 352. I have looked it over for typo's but don't see anything wrong. I undertsand the logic but the program doesn't do what it claims. Its simply supposed to display the color of the current pixel underneath my pointer or as he says it "the pixel currently underneath the hot point of the mouse cursor." I don't know what he means by "Hot point" I guess he means the tip of my pointer? Anyhow if anyone is familliar with this code fragment, I would appreciate you taking a quick look at it.     - request to solve my problem I have an MDI application in vc++. In the view i have a splitter wnd in which the top view is CScrollView and he bottom view is CRichEditViw. In the top view i can draw the lines which represent Music. we can change the size of the lines by providing a zoom option with 10 to 200 % in a combobox in the Toolbar. for this i want to implement a feature "Fit Window" which fits the drawing to the visible area only. Hi, In VC++.Net 2005 visual studio, if I create a new winform drag and drop a button, then double click it to write click event code, then it auto generates the template code for the event in Form1.h file rather than Form1.cpp file. This behaviour is against standard C++ coding standards, where my header file is supposed to just have declarations. I read in other topics that this is due to C# association of single file concept with the winform. These are the 2 that I know of:
- Use IMAPI (see MSDN) to implement CD burning using the windows
functionality.
- download the Nero SDK www.nero.com and implement your software on top of
the NERO API.
In that case Nero needs to be installed on each computer where you want to
use your software.
