    - Cannot add fields at runtime to a CDaoRecordSet class I solved this once before using VC++ and CDaoRecordSet, but I am looking for a better solution - even though I have the sinking feeling that what I am attempting to accomplish is not possible. Here is the issue (at least a pared down version of it): My VC++ MFC application has a Microsoft Access file Networks.mdb which currently has six fields. The problem arises when I want to add another (or seventh) field. There is no problem updating the CPP (or class file) for this file - Networks.mdb. I am able to successfully bind a new variable for the new field. But of course this means I can no longer read the old MDB file without throwing an exception. Which is not unexpected since the number of elements (6) no longer matches the new class file where m_nFields is now set to 7. So my question is there a way to open this mismatched MDB file at runtime so that I can retrieve the records and safe them in the new MDB file.     - Object properties change without reason Hi Consider an object from a child class B with the parent class A. I create an Object of class B in a function that can return a pointer to the class A, then I return the Object's pointer through the function. After examining the returned Object in debug mode, like (B *) ReturnedObject, I see that some properties has got invalid. These properties are pointers to other objects of the other classes that I had created in the function and gave their pointers to my Object. But after returning it these sub-objects are gone!! I am using PathIsDirectory() function and I included <shlwapi.h> in my file. I am calling PathIsDirectory() inside a class virtual member function.     - Perhaps a VC++ compiler error Well I'm not sure who's fault is it, me or VC++ compiler!! I wrote a program which works with files in hard disk and it just reads them through "ifstream". This program of mine acts so strange, when I compile it as a release version, it works perfectly but when I compile it as a debug version, it cuases error and abnormal termination!!     - C++ Object size Hello all, I want to find out is how much memory is being used by each class (and thus the object) in my application. This includes differentiating between the memory allocated for functions and memory allocated for static data (like arrays, constants etc.) Does anyone know of any utility that will allow me to obtain this information AFTER linking my application with other libraries? I tried to interpret the linker generated MAP file for this, but there seems to be no documentation on MSDN to interpret the keywords in the MAP file.     - LogonUser and ImpersonateLoggedOnUser Hi! I'm developing the setup of an application. It needs to write in registry and extract files on certain directories. The files are extracted using scripting interface (JScript) processed in my setup using odl to define new functions. The setup evaluate if current user have administrator privileges and, if he doesn't have them, it let you introduce username and password and change the current user with LogonUser and ImpersonateLoggedOnUser. This actions are done at the beginning and goes well (I can write in local machine entry of registry), but, when I extract files, the administrator privileges are lost.     - How to catch "integer division by zero" exception In VC7, Division by zero will cause system to throw an exception, I do not konw the exception type, I can only catch it by catch(...){} but, it's no use, because I do not know what the exception really was.     - Convert String to Variable I have a form which has a series of TextBoxes on it which are named bin0, bin1, bin2, ... On the form I have an array defined called bin[20] which holds integer values and the contents are changed by other code which returns the variable npod. If npod = 1 then I increment bin[1] and then on the form I changed bin1->Text = bin[1].ToString() I started with just a few bin variable an didn't use an array so I performed the update with a case statement and hard coded each TextBox update with the name like above. What I want to do know is create a string which hold the name of the TextBox and use this value to change the text in the box. So my question is how do I code the program, so that once I have a string which holds the TextBox name, it will know that this is the TextBox name and now just a string?     - crash occuring when linking to a DLL I created a DLL and compiled it in release mode and under code generation Multithreaded DLL. My exe that calls my DLL is compiled in debug mode and under code generation Debug Multithreaded DLL in my dll the function i'm calling is string IESettings::GetFTPAddrLAN() { return ftpaddrLAN; } In my exe i'm running this code but i keep getting a messagebox "User breakpoint called from code at 0x77f75a58" and it pulls up assembler code. if (IEobj.GetFTPAddrLAN().empty()) In another part of my code i was getting the same crash due to passing a string to a dll function. Apparently when the function exited it died i believe in the deconstructor of the string. I changed it to a char* and everything worked fine. My question is do i have to change my all my classes in my dll to not have strings at all or is there a way to get strings to work from exes across to dlls?     - Strange COLEDateTime Compile Issues Hi All, I am experiencing a very odd problem compiling a block of code that uses the GetAsDBTIMESTAMP member function from the COLEDateTime class. The compiler is stating that GetAsDBTIMESTAMP is not a member of the COLEDateTime class even though it clearly is (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vclib/html /_mfc_coledatetime_class_members.asp).     - How does the linker work? Hi, I'm pretty new to C++ and decided it might be a good idea to create a library of reusable code for me. With Visual Studio .NET 2003 I gave my library 4 different configurations Debug Release DebugUnicode ReleaseUnicode (Debug & Release is the default stuff... DebugUnicode & ReleaseUnicode is the same switched to Unicode characters). Building these 4 configs is pretty easy. I named the resulting libs differently and VS can find them in the lib path somewhere. Now I create a new project and want to use the library. I create the same 4 configs for my project and for some reason VS links to the correct lib file. Is there any information on which lib is chosen by the linker and why? Is there any useful documentation out there that explains the process of linking? (So far I only found documentation on many different options that modify that process in some way, but that's pretty meaningless until I get an idea of that process). I'm targetting Win32.     - What do you use with Visual Studio 6.0 I'm interested in putting together a web page with some good tips on what one should use with Visual Studio 6.0. Why? For many different reasons, a lot of developers out there still continue to use 6.0 and I imagine that this will continue for a few more years. This solution clutters up the code too much when this test is applied to the 25 other functions not listed here.     - MFC71/CR9.2 Deployment Hell... Please Help We are trying to deploy an application built using MFC71.DLL VS.NET 2003 (C++) and using Crystal Reports 9.2.2.xxx. The application runs fine when in the development environment but we are unable to deploy it to the Client's machine, the application breaks after viewing the reports. When we install Visual Studio .Net 2003 on the client's machine it works fine. We have tried different sets of merge modules from both the Crystal Report sites and the VS.NET/MFC/ATL merge modules found on the VS.NET CD. Apart from using the following Merge Modules: as well as the merge modules found at the crystal site. Are there any other Merge modules/DLL that we need to consider?     - Really late binding I use VC++ as a tool not as a primary focus of my professional life. I am trying to think of a way to write an application, e.g., an equation solver, that will allow it to run and accept as input VC valid statement (literally) in a edit box that would then be incorporated in a function and when "the button is pushed" will execute that code. I think there is a straight forward way to do that, but I have my mind locked on path that is not producing results, i.e., it would not compile without that code in place. As far as I can see, this should NEVER be a fatal error. All it means is that you get no debugging information for the library in question. Under one workspace, the error is: CVPACK: fatal error CK1022: cannot open program database c:\... Under the other workspace, the warning is: LNK 4099: PDB "vc60.pdb" was not found with c:\..... or at c:......, linking object as if no debug info.
