    - dialog items without MFC Hi there, I created a window project "without using MFC" and I added some Dialog boxes to the project with some controls included with them like combo boxes, check boxes, .....? How can I access these controls without using MFC? In other words, how can I change - for example - the check status of my check box or how I can upload and read from the combo box?     - dialog resource in library How do I make a Dialog resource (for DialogBoxParam) within a library available to any calling DLL or EXE? When I build a DLL that references a library that has an error message dialog, the DialogBoxParam fails with an error 1812 (dialog resource unavailable). If I include the .rc for the dialog in the DLL project, the dialog works. Is there some way, in building the library, that I can insure that the resource gets included in any calling DLL?     - Compression algorithm question Hi, I've been reading in a stream of data from a data file where sometimes the data is uncompressed, and other times it is compressed. The uncompressed data is a list of longs - if I know there are 1001 data points, I do this: long* plArray = new long[1001]; DWORD dwRead; HRESULT hr = pStream->Read(m_plArray, 1001*sizeof(long), &dwRead); However, every now and then I come across a chunk of data where I know that I expect those 1001 data points, but the size of the data file is approximately 1/4 the size it should be (.ie. instead of being 4004 bytes, it might be say 1200 bytes). Its obviously been compressed - I'm guessing there's no encryption involved. There is a boolean just before the data stream starts that indicates whether compression has been applied or not, so I don't need to guess that based on the data size. If I know what the data _should_ be (I have a list of the what the unencrypted data is), could anyone gives me any tips/pointers as to what compression algorithm is being used? I'm new to this compression side of things. I'm just reading now about Shannon-Fano and Huffman coding for the first time.     - Inline ASM and OOP Hello, I wrote a pretty nice D3D framework in C++. Everything is done in classes and it all works great. Now I want to make a special version of it that is as small as possible. But I want to keep all the classes and basically maintain full compatibility with the "full" system. Some features will of course be left out, but otherwise I shouldn't have to change any code in the applications using the system. >From the beginning I already had this in my head so I can comment almost every feature out with a lot of #defines. And it gets a lot smaller. But now I want to push it to the limit using ASM. I figured I can decrease the total code size by at least a couple of k's when applying all my nasty tricks :) Anyway, I just got started and already ran into the first 2 problems: 1) I'm using VC6 and apparently imports aren't handled automatically when an API function is only called from an ASM block. Manually importing all functions seems a bit unnecessary so anyone knows of a better solution? 2) OOP. I know how to access data members of an object, but can't figure out how to call member functions. It seems MS's compiler wastes a lot of bytes for every "Object *bla = new Object()" so I'd really like to have that in ASM. But I have no clue how to call the constructor of the object. A sidenote.. Code readability is not really an issue here. My framework is in a stable state right now, and this small version is going to be for hacky 64k versions. This version of the framework will exist purely to get it as small as possible. Every dword counts :) I googled for quite a while now without getting any usable results.     - Template Member Function Parameters I have some code from an open source project I'm trying to port to VC6 SP5 I'm having trouble passing a parameter to a template member function. I'm not new to templates, but this one goes a bit deeper then I've ever delved.     - can't see debug information after program crash on XP I'm running my code in VC++ 6.0 on WinXP under debug mode. Every time it meets memory error, e.g. access violation, a messagebox popup, then I choose "debug", another messagebox popup saying some address can't be read. After click on the "ok" button, every active window will be shut down and I can't see which line of code cause the problem. While the first call succeeds, the second one fails somewhere deep into fgets. I can only imagine that this is cause by some corruption due to bad calling conventions, but am at lost as to how to correct/manage it.     - Keyboard input Hi, I have a program which controls the mouse and keyboard by installing system hooks. Both are controlled via pre-recorded data and call SendInput based on this data. The data consists of nothing more than what key was pressed, where the mouse moved, etc. What I'm looking for is a way to disable the user from physically pressing any keyboard button except escape. I found BlockInput in MSDN, which would be very useful, except it disables all physical input.     - Is it possible to make a MFC dialog In-Proc when called from and ATL COM from VB? Hi, I have an ATL COM object that contains a MFC Dialog. One method of my ATL must allow me to display the dialog in modal (DoModal). I use this ATL COM in my VB app. I want to call the ATL Method from my VB app to make the MFC dialog appear in modal. The problem is : The dialog appears, but is not in-proc. So I receive a message each time I click on the parent window (not a beep sound, but really a message). Is it possible at all to make my dialog appear in-proc or it is a limitation of the COM (or VB) usage? Someone talked to me about In-Proc server, but I really don't understand this concept.     - LNK2005: function already defined My workspace consists of two projects, one Win32 application project and one static library project. The code is in fact in C language instead of C++. Some of the funcitons declared and defined in the file that contains WinMain() is in conflict with other functions of the same name in the library project.
