    - Memory Problem Hi all I'm having a problem with the memory management: I'm writing a program with Visual C++ which creates, after a call method, a lot of structures and classes and afterwards they are deleted completely; but I open the Windows Task Manager and the memory used by my program is is always increasing, is it correct or memory should decrease after deleting the classes and structures with 'delete'?? Any idea?? Of course, the problem is that when I'm inserting (but not storing) quite data, my program reaches 200 MB and I think that there is something wrong!     - template specialization bug Hello, I think I have found a template specialization bug in Microsoft Visual C++ 2003 (VC7.1). The following code compiles with gcc3.2 and Intel 8.0, but gives error C2764 "template parameter not used in partial specialization" with VC7.1.     - <char*> data with process-to-process messages Hi there, I register a custom message with RegisterWindowMessage function. I would like to pass <char*> messages via the message: char buf[80]; .... // fill the buf with a message SendMessage( HWND_BROADCAST, MYMESSAGE, (WPARAM)buf, NULL ); this of course does not work as expected: the array is correctly received only in the process that sends the message. all other processes cannot see the message data (I suppose this is due to memory beeing virtually adressed in each process). my question is: how then should I declare the memory to be able to pass the data to another process as <char*>? I've tried to alloc the memory globally (via GlobalAlloc) and pass the pointer but with no result. The only solution I've found is to register the data as an atom (GlobalAddAtom) as pass the atom handle.     - Dll exporting a function that creates MFC dialog is causing crash in MT. Hi I am facing a crash only in 2k with the following scenario . In XP and 98 this problem is not observed In my scenario I have X.exe, Y.dll. Y.dll exports a function (say Z) which has DoModal() of a dialog called. X.exe on click of a button starts a thread and in that thread calls the Z method which shows up a dialog. The problem happens when the button is clicked thrice or more than thrice. The three dialogs are lauched in three threads and are shown. But if I try to move the dialogs, After some time a crash is seen, whcih occurs in a method of MFC42.dll. More information about the scenario is X.exe links Y.dll statically. X links MFC as a shared dll, where as Y.dll links the same as a static dll. I suspected module state change when the the control is going out of thread boundary to Dll. But the exported function already has AFX_MANAGE_STATE(AfxGetStaticModuleState( )); as te first statement. I think the execution point is determined by the function that will be passed as an argument to the AfxBeginThread function..     - Inline methods Hi all, I have always defined inline methods for a class in a header file (either the header in which the method was declared, or in a separate one for the sake of more readable library headers). Other times, it works fine, although I don't know for sure that the method is actually being inlined. I was wondering how to debug my problem. when I do the following from the masterthread(called from timer interrupt) everything works ok, however if I try it in my worker thread(trying to speed up the code execution) I get an Access Violation exception thrown.     - Version Number Format Okay, I know that Microsoft, as a standard, uses the following format for version numbers (dotted quad notation): Major.Minor.Build.Revision (example 1.15.0015.0) Also, I know that often this version information is stored in a binary form in a double word, such as a REG_DWORD in the system registry. So, I have a helper class that reads either DWORDs or string representations of a version number and then provides checked access to either one of the four fields, Major, Minor, Build, or Revision, and finally allows you to read the whole version number as a string or DWORD. This is so that I can easily read in version info as a DWORD or string from the registry or a file and then do comparisons. To finalize everything, I'd like to make sure that I'm packing/unpacking my four fields into and out of the DWORD correctly. Does anyone know Microsoft's format? I know Build needs least 12 bits (from some version numbers I've seen) but I'm not sure on others. Any help appreciated.     - Know Disk Type? HELP! I am working with Windows 2000 software RAID (-0) with 3ware RAID card to implement a hot swap capability. If i include that in a ATL dll and compile it , it give a compilation error saying "Undeclared Identified CString". Constraints placed upon the application required it to be written in two pieces 1) One piece is a VB application that communicates with the RF devices through winsock controls. This application acts as a gateway between the RF devices and the actual application where most of the process occurs 2) The other piece is a multithreaded MFC VC++ application without an interface that runs as a process. This is where most processing occurs. For each RF device connected and needing to run, a new thread is created that communicates to the RF device through the VB app via the shared named pipe The main communications loop in the VC++ application is WatchPipe.     - Disk Management API HELP! A few days ago, I got a help on APIs to do the Device Manager job. Now I am a bit in trouble. Without using a Windows GUI, I need to do the followings. Can SetupDiXXXX allows me to do it? # Reactivate "Disk 1" shown in the Disk Management after enabling Disk 1 using SetupDiXXXX. Just as a note, my application is a kind of an "embedded system" and there is not GUI to the user. Thus I have to manipulate the contents of the Disk Manager just with Windows APIs, meaning that without opening those control windows. I will be looking forward to hearing from anyone for the help!     - newb memcpy() ? HI- I saw somewhere in someone else's code they used memcpy() to copy an array to another array. I just added this to my code and I thought I would make sure that it was OK to use memcpy() with a new'ed pointer. For example int* pInt = new int[20]; for(int i=0; i<20; i++) *pInt[i] = i; int* pInt2 = new int[20]; memcpy(pInt2, pInt, sizeof(int)*20); That is ok, right? Or do I need to use memset() I can't keep the restrictions of the different memory tools straight for some reason, the only thing I know is that you can't use free() w/ new :) Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
