    - get value from combo box to add data to JList Hi all, I am currently trying to develop a java program which has two files loaded into it. One is for room rumbers which are listed in a combo box like RM01, RM02, RM03 etc, and the other files has the computer names which are loaded into the JList like RM01_01, RM01_02, RM02_01, RM02_02 etc. What I would like to do is when I click RM01 on the combo box the JList automatically repopulates with all the computers that start with RM01 so it would only show the computer names which are RM01_01, RM01_02 etc. I have tried this and it is not working properly. What I have got I am not sure if it is working properly as I can not anything to display inside the vector for the JList. This is what I have so far.     - stationery and Vista I use a lot of stationery complete with music and my friends all look forward to receiving my mail. However with the advent of Vista, my stationery does not work properly with those of my email pals who have Vista. Is there a fix for it? I use Windows XP, so don't know much about Vista.     - Retrieve ProcessID for the running script I am able to retrieve the ProcessID for processes using the Win32_Process Class, however I am not able to retrieve the ProcessID for the script that the code is running in. I can't use the Name of the process since I have multiple wscript.exe running so the only way I can think of getting the ProcessID is by finding properties for the current script process only. I have no idea how to do this since the closest I can get is a complete list of running processes while I just need the info for the currently running script.     - Sorting in VBscript I have a vbscript that retrieves pdf files and outputs them in a table with a link to the file plus the date modified. I'm trying with no luck to sort the links starting with newest file. The file path is newbusiness/2007. There is a folder for each year. A the top of the table is a list of links to each year folder.     - Parsing a textfile and writing file properties Windows Live Mail stores each e-mail message and newsgroup posting as a textfile with a .eml or .nws extension. The filename itself is a fairly random string of hex characters, so a typical file will be called 440D491C-00000077.eml. This is not helpful if you're looking for a specific message in the file system. I'm using XPSP2. I've played around with a VBA script to do the following with a specified folder: (a) Trawl through the folder and any subfolders looking for .eml or .nws files (b) For each file found, search for data on lines starting with From:, To:, Date: and Subject: (c) Clean up the data found - eg. From: will usually be followed by something like "Joe Bloggs" <joe.bloggs@hotmail.com>. This would result in two variables - name and address. (d) Write the data found to the file properties. I've got it working up to a point, but the problems I'm facing are: (1) encoded data. Some messages have more than one of the fields mentioned encoded, as Quoted-Printable or Base64, and then there is sometimes UTF-8 on top. I've managed to cope with most of this, but not reliably (2) I seem to be limited to Summary properties, since Custom properties won't show up as columns in Explorer. So, From: becomes Author,and Subject: becomes Subject. To: I can do without. Date: becomes one of the writeable Date fields (there aren't any), so I've put it in the Comments field. Any ideas?     - Reading file from certain point Hi chaps, I need a script to search a log file (whose name is DD-MM-YYYY.log) for an error (for example "AN ERROR!"). However, even though the script rolls over each day, the files can get very large, and errors occur often. This script will be run at regular intervals (every 15 mins I reckon at the mo) and needs to return something like a 1 if an error string was found and a 0 if not. This value in turn will be used by the alerting package to fire off alerts and poke things to get it working again. Now, i've got all that working more or less (getting the date bits to auto-fill the filename is being a pain) expect for one important bit. In my script, the log file is opened and then searched line by line, and if an error is found, 1 is returned. The problem is that it restarts from line 1 each time it's fired, so basically we are always getting alerts, even for alerts we have already been told about. What I need is some way to store the last line that was checked by the script, and to start from the following line on the next check. I guess this would in turn have to save the line number to a text file and read it back when the check starts next. Any ideas how I can do the latter bit? I need to make a decision in the script based on the contents of the "Installer Engine" property, but can't find the Class that exposes this property. From the GUI you can find the information by viewing "Other version information" on the Version tab.     - VBScript Regular Expression Hi, I am putting together a quick (I hoped...) ASP page using VBScript to parse some data, add some stuff up, and display it to a user. Unfortunately, I had to whip the page together that took that data in a big hurry and some fields were left blank. Now when I parse the data, these empty fields are causing an error. Also, some people put characters in where there were supposed to be numbers. Bad job on developing the page to take the data on my part.     - Silly VBScript IsDate problem I haven't used VBScript in a couple of years. I have a textbox and a custom validator on the screen. The validator calls a vbscript function ValidateDate which uses IsDate to validate incoming date strings. It will catch gross errors like letters but it's passing date strings like '13/12/2007'.     - For Each loop writing on same line Hello, I have a script where I read an input file, which contains a bunch of URL strings of differing sizes. I split each element into an array based on the slash ("/"). After that, I take one of the elements from the array, and change it to another, and then put the URL string back together. The issue I'm having is when I put it back together in a for each loop, it writes each element onto its own line. Also, at the end of the line it puts a slash at the end. How can I get each element to print on the same line, also omitting the final slash? Here's the snippet of my code that does all this work... Any help is greatly appreciated!     - DOS program does not run - Help please As part of a much larger script I am trying to get some of the Local security settings on a server using the DUMPSEC program. The program resides on the local systemdrive of the server, though I would prefer running it from the mapped drive where the script resides. In either case my code does not run the program. If I run the command from the command line the output file is created. When I run the following code the script hangs and the output file is never created. The copmuter txt file has all the servers listed. 1 per line in the form of: \\servername1 \\servername2 The servers are scattered throughout the country and we have many point to point vpns.     - When vb script finishes, still have to wait several seconds before All, I have a VB program that executes several scripts in sequence... so it has to wait for each script to finish before the next one runs. The scripts themselve take only a few seconds to run, however it takes several seconds before the command prompt is returned and the window is closed (and the vb program can continue). Why is it that when a script finished, it still takes several seconds before the command prompt is returned? Is there a way to solve this. for exchange 2007, and windows server 2007. I know there is a new tool out
there called Powershell that I'm trying to learn, but have more vbscripts out
there available to do things with. Just curious if anyone has knowledge or
experience with it please let me know.

You could likely use WMI in VBScript to do some stuff in Exchange 2007 but
PowerShell is where you'll really need to be.
