    - Random generation of items in given proportions Good grief, that's a terrible subject header. I have no idea how else to summarize this, though. The point of this post is to solicit alternative methods for what I'm doing. Let's say I want to randomly generate items in given proportions. For example: dogs: 400 cats: 200 pigeons: 0 frogs: 0 ducks: 100 "Select" is out. This needs to work for lists of arbitrary length. What follows is seminal (ignoring the list items themselves), just to show how I'm approaching this.     - Domain Migration (NT4 to W2k3) I am working on a script which will remove a computer from an NT 4.0 domain and add it to a new W2k3 Active Directory domain. Microsoft has a sample script (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/scriptcenter/compmgmt/scrcm31.ms px) which shows how to join the workstation to a domain, but I believe I have to remove the account from the old domain before adding to the new. The return code I get after running this script above (of course changing the necessary variables) is 2691.     - Issues with Running VBS Script during Login for Users I'm fairly new to VB Scripting and am just seeing how far I can push it. I've created a script that will help my co-workers and I update the IP information on about 1500 computers in our corporation. To make the automation fully complete, we'd like to add it to run in the Novell Login script that runs when each user logs in. The problem is the user won't have admin rights to make the necessary updates. I'm looking for suggestions on ways to get around this. I've thought of a couple ways, and have done some research into it...but not found a solid solution to make this work. We're hoping to make it a free solution as well. The best way I can think of is to use a 3rd Party (freeware) "Run As Different User" (that's a scriptable version of the Microsoft "RunAs" - The problem with this is the program can't see the network drive that the Script is Mounted on (because its mounted as "Limited User", and the script is running as an "Admin User") I have yet to figure out the work-around for this. Other drawbacks to this is the admin password is out there in an (encrypted) file... its not a big worry for us, but it is a vulnerability.     - mandatory fields When creating new objects in ADSI from a class, I can see what properties are mandatory by browsing AD with ADVW, by use of the schema management tool, or by refering to MSDN Library. MSDN does provide the most information. Still, it is not clear to me how one can tell, when instantiating a new object, which of the mandatory fields must be populated by the script writer and which the system will populate (such as Object-SID).     - Unicode OpenTextFile and Search Problem I have written a script in vbs that basically opens a set of selected files, performs a search on each file and replaces each occurrence of a string with a different string. This works fine on ASCII files. However the original files that I will be searching are Unicode files. With these files, even though I have stated in the OpenTextFile command that the files are to be opened as Unicode, the search finds nothing. I have confirmed that the files are unicode by checking the first two characters are ASCII 255 and 254. If I copy the contents of the Unicode file to a new text file the search works fine. What is my problem? Do I have to have a search string that is written in Unicode? I'm using RegExp to do the search. I do not want to save or convert the original files. I thought I'd find a solution in the newsgroups quickly on this one. But have had no success yet. Please help as the script is fully functional except for this "simple" problem. Thanx in advance.     - Removing spaces for environment variable I have the following in a batch file: Set %1=<value> ex. Set %1=TECRA S1 This value is written using a vb script that detects the system type in the BIOS. Now, I'm then using this value to set an environment variable, however, environment variables must not contain spaces so that I can use IF GOTO statements in my batch file. I need an addition to my vb script that will remove any spaces OR replace them with underlines (which ever is easier) before writing the result to the batch file. i have to write a little .vbs !
the script have to set the user rigths from "only read" to "read & write"!

then i will copy a directory from the server to my harddisk..
after this, i will set the user rights back!

can someone help me?
