    - Is this to Complicated? Hi All, Wonder if somebody could kindly help me? Im fairly new to this so please excuse me if I sound daft. I have a VBS script that copies a file from 1 Directory to Aanother each night. The file is Approx 290megs and grows about 2meg per day. Currently all is working well however im deleting the previous weeks files manual each monday. (Its a backup, and we need seven days worth) as they are starting to take up a fair amount of space. Is there a way to get the VBS script to check the earlist file and delete it if it is over a week old?     - Calling an OLE method but continuing a timer within VBS Hi VBS gurus, I have a problem which I am trying to get resolved in time for a probation review for a new job (Good marks = Continue to get paid)... Basically, I have written a VBS script to do an unattended test of an application called OPP over a Citrix environment. The script is included at the end of this post in all its glory. All works well when the username/password variables function correctly to log in: success = OPPApplication.Login(loginname, password) If all works, success is returned as TRUE and away we go. Problem is, when the username/password don't function, the .Login OLE method just opens a window on the Citrix server and awaits user entry. Since this is meant to function unattended, the window just sits there waiting and never returns to the VBS script to return success = FALSE. You can see I have tried to set a timer to return success = FALSE if no luck after 10 secs but the problem I have is that control is never returned back to the VBS script from the application call, so the timer never continues counting. If anybody has advice on how I can do this (Somebody I asked mentioned calling the OLE method asynchronously - I have google'd it unsuccessfully so far) I'd be eternally grateful...     - Comma in AD object name is causing error In our Active Directory, user objects are represented as "lastname, firstname" This causes a problem for me in connecting to the user object to change properties. Using the Getobject("LDAP://cn=USERNAME,cn=Users," & _ objrdse.get("defaultNamingContext")) returns an 0x80005000 error because it is reading the "," between the user's last and first name.     - AD User Accounts I have a script that reads user information from an Excel Spreadsheet... When I am creating the accounts everything works just as I expect... However the name displayed in the AD management console shows the saMAccountName and not a full name display as if I created the account by hand...     - DataGrid HELP! I am getting some strange results when trying to access data thrown into a DataGrid. Perhaps someone can shed some light and provide a solution to my issues.... Process: Load DataGrid1 with an ADOrs - no problem Click a cell to retrieve it's value - some problems When clicked, I am *trying* to set the Row number like this, Dim RowValue RowValue = DataGrid1.RowContaining(Y) What I get for the value is actually +1 from the ADOrs value (so, clicking a cell in the first row will give me a RowValue = 1). No problem, just subtract 1 ( -1) from the actual row number to access the correct row (0) in the ADOrs, right? Well, this works for rows 1 thru 3 in the DataGrid1. Here's what happens past row 3: Clicking a cell in row #4 in the DataGrid returns a RowValue = 5!!!! So, by subtracting 1 from this, gives me row 4 in the ADOrs which is the inncorect value from where I clicked. It should be giving me a RowValue = 4 (which in turn would select row 3 in the ADOrs). Also -- when clicking on or past row 5 in the DataGrid, it returns a RowValue = -1 which of course totally throws everything off and bombs out the app. Any insight as to this behavior and how to remedy would be greatly appreciated.     - Changing login desktop color I need to write a logon script that can change the background colour of the login screen for a Windows XP / 2000 machine. I know i can change the desktop colour using SetSysColor except that that's an API call and vbscript dosn't allow those.. at least not that i've found. I also suspect that it's the system account's desktop colour that i need to change, but i'm not sure. I have a requirement to change the desktop background of the login screen to give an admin some basic system status so he can see at a glance if he needs to log in at all, and i'm not allowed to use wallpaper. I'd rather not have to write a small app to call the API and then call that app from vbscript. I've looked at WMI and other places but i just cannot seem to find what i need. I expected this to be simple. If anyone know how to do this i'd be very grateful. I suspect i've just looked in the wrong place.     - Variable references I read in other posts that there are no references in VBScript - however, it's possible to use this.... foo = "bar" bar = "blah" msgbox eval(foo) How would this apply to getting variables from fields? I've got a form which has various fields (in an HTA), lets say they are called "fld1", "fld2" etc.... how would I get the values from these fields using a variable reference.... If I were to do this to display "fld1", it would work.... (Mostly Broadcom nic's but some others NICS apply such as 3com and Intel) I am using 2000 Server and 2003 server. We need to set our cards to 100/full and I am worried I might have missed a few. (There are hundreds of them..) It seems to only show up in a GUID so I was wondering if there was some way to determine which GUID both nics are in on each server. An additional help would be if you knew of a way to determine the 'linked' or 'active' nic. (Perhaps WMI? or remote reg queries?) Thank you in advance.     - userAccountControl Up until this point I really haven't had to definitely determine the options set by the userAccountControl. What I'm actually trying to do is determine accounts that are enabled vs disabled. I would expect the value of userAccountControl to be 514 for a disabled account (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=305144). However, I can set the account to Never Expire and the value changes to 66050 (514+65536). I'm not sure that I can determine every possible scenario with certainty. Should I be trying to brake the number down? If I were to determine it manually, I would subtract the largest listed number I can from it over and over until I can't any more. It seems borderline useful so I give it here. Is there a better way to have one script turn off another than the way I do it? Going through text files seems too round-about for me. I've done things along this line in Excel VBA using DoEvents and public variables and I couldn't think of anything better than text files to play the role of publc variables *between* scripts.     - Using VB Script to install software - Need insight - I was hoping with the wealth of knowledge here that someone could shed some light on using Vbscript to install software. Using vbscript to install msi based applications is not a problem, but where the problem begins is when installing an application or driver package that does not use the windows installer or uses a setup.exe which does the preliminary prep work then launches another executable for the installation. I have the situation where I need to unbind QoS and FIle and Print Sharing
on my computers. Is there a way to accomplish this via a vbscript. I have
looked on microsoft and the web and have come up short.

It seems that if you remove QoS from XP and sysprep it, it puts it back.

I may be wrong ... but I believe this is something to do with XP where it
doesn't want you to remove QoS EVER. I remember having problems once before
trying to do it manually ... but bare in mind this was on a very early
version of XP!
