    - Automated Enable of XP Firewall after Sysprep Hello all- It seems that, after sysprepping, Windows turns off the internet connection firewall, which we use quite extensively here at UW-Milwaukee. However, we want to roll out Windows XP to our campus computer labs. Is there a way, either through GPO, VBScripting a WMI call, or some other magic that will let us re-enable this? Also, are there ways to programmatically control the firewall (such as add new rules, enable or disable existing rules, etc.)?     - wsh upload puzzle :: fails when accessing server file Hi Guys, I would appreciate some help in my age-long struggle to wsh (ftp upload) a small file (access .mdb) to our remote web host... It works great when I do the upload from the local drive. BUT, when I try to upload the file from across the networked server machine the script hanges WITHOUT generating an error with the cmd.exe line showing: ftp> ftp> _ Now, I know from past experience that this could be permissions error. But, If I check the SECURITY for the parent folder I see: Adminsistrator Authenticated Everyone G Cuadros Full Contol = yes/ticked Modify = yes Read and execute = yes etc etc INHERITABLE PERMISSIONS =yes = allow inheritable permissions is enabled and ticked Thus, what is causing the script to hange and not upload the file when I attempt this across the network towards our remote web host....?? This has been an ongoing battle for me and I really need somebody knowledgeable to help me get a handle on this. I have posed my short, full .     - Vbscript question in SQL DTS In trying to make some changes to a file extract (we are pulling a text file from another domain into the one our SQL server is in, and then loading a database from it), we will have the need to "bind" the sets of text files together. In other words, for me to know which orderfile goes with which credit file and shipment files, they'll all have the date appended to the files. The way it is now, we get: orderfile.txt which would be named orderfile20030731.txt in the proposed changes. tomorrows would be named orderfile20030801.txt and so on. The other text files would be named in a corresponding manner, so that a load of creditfile0731 isn't mixed with an orderfile of 0801. I need to put a step into our existing DTS jobs to take the file, no matter what the name is, and to rename it (or copy it) to our old filename and have it be input to the DTS job. Either that, or make the DTS job pick up the appropriate name. To complicate matters, we run one database server on monday-wednesday & friday, and another on tuesday-thursday-saturday.     - Batching emails from a newsletter system Hi Guys Wonder if you can help me. To give you some form of background info, I have created a web-based newsletter system using ASP, ADO, Access 2000 and your JMail 4.3 component. This newsletter system has been created so that I can send 1 newsletter to 300+ subscribers every 1 or 2 months. I wouldn't say this was really hammering an SMTP server - would you? Our ISP (FastHosts) will only allow 10 emails every 30 seconds or 50 emails every 10 mins. I've checked with FastHosts and they don't support JMail's '.nq' queuing option, so do you know any other way round this?     - Update Windows with a script Any know how to run Windows Update (just Critical Updates actually) on a client machine automatically by a script? Of course you can set autoupdates to run everynight, only problem is that users are often logged on as users, and Updates won't install. I suppose I could just logon as an admin every night at ~3:00 AM, but that seems like a kluge.     - Install of VBScript components causing problem? I recently installed and began using VBScript. Now when I boot I get a cryptic message XAUpdate.exe Cannot find entry SHGetSpecialFolderPathA ... not in SHELL32.dll ... It appears not to affect the system (after clicking OK), but I wonder if the install of Scripting caused this? I noted a post from Michael Harris that IE4 Desktop Update must be done. Checking on that in KB, it appears that it can't be done without uninstalling IE5.5 and reinstalling. I truly don't want to bother. My shell32.dll is version 4.00 and this appears to be too old.     - unicode I need to select data from an nchar field in a sqlserver database, persist it to XML, then transform it using XSL, (all in COM component called from ASP - returning HTML ), outputting HTML (Response.Write the string returned from COM+). The data may contain european characters such as ? é and also chinese characters such as ???? (it looks like SQLserver stores these as 两个月前) There seem to be a lot of stages along the way where the encoding can be set and/or will default to a certain encoding (COM defaults to UTF-16?) What do I need to set to be able to see (and input) both Eurpoean and Chinese (Simplified) characters? So far I'm using; XML FROM RECORDSET------------------------------------------------------------- In the recordset the Chinese char is 个 but when persisted to XML the ampersand at the front is shown as & <data>&#20010;</data> So I'm replacing "&#" with "&# " to output 个 in the XML XML HEADER---------------------------------------------------------------------- --------- I grab the documentElement.xml of the XML from several recordsets and build up a 'master' XML string.     - Reading ini file on remote computer We have a program that is run on the client user's computers. At times we need to change the host ip address. I created a web page to do this via the File Scripting Object. It works great. Problem is that it will modify and save the ini file on the web server, but I need to read in and write out to the client computer. We are using IIS 5 and client machines are Win98, Win2K and WinXP.     - Reading files on a remote computer Here is the situation. We have an abc.ini file in the C:\windows directory on users machines that have the parent program running locally. I want to create a web page that will display a section and its values in a web page that the user can modify the values and then save the file. An exhaustive googe search for an example has produced nothing useful and trying to guess what the command might be took a lot of time and yielded nothing. The file - GPC Assessment - Ronnie Bates.xls is a file on the server in the root path. This code runs error free, it just doesn't do what I need it to do.     - Returning arrays from a .vbs file My question is: how is it possible for a .vbs file to return a variant array of strings when called from another .vbs file? I have a .vbs file which consists of about 20 calls to independent Functions, each of which returns an array of 4 strings. After this a short section disseminates the returned information. Each Function is about 30 lines long. For maintainability, instead of one huge Main.vbs file, I'd like to have a small Main.vbs and have each function call go out to its own small standalone .vbs file. These calls could be synchronous or asynchronous, but after all the results are in, I need to summarize the returned arrays. Can you suggest a way that's better than my overkill IE idea which follows? By the way, each .vbs file, including Main.vbs, utilizes an OCX that I have written and this OCX would be happy to cooperate. Can you do better than?: Main.vbs creates and prepares an instance of IE. Each Function (located in its own .vbs file) finds this same instance and when the Function is done, it writes its array somewhere into this IE instance which the caller (Main.vbs) can then access. In a better version, each FunctionN.vbs file would do something like Set myOcxInstance = GetObject(,"myOcx.Tool") and then I could accumulate the variant array of strings into the OCX, but upon searching, I have read that this GetObject does not like to work with OCXs (the OCX contains forms, but they are not shown when accessed in this manner) so I thought I'd ask before chasing after the wrong tree to bark up. Finally, I thought it might be worth trying to get the WHERE statement (above) into the rs.Fields("SprogNo") = Request.Form("SprogNo" & x) statement. So far all attempts have fallen foul of syntax errors. e.g. rs.update WHERE ((SprogTbl.SprogNo)='" & SprogNo & "'); The last two solutions would still require making the update repeat for each of the fields in some kind of a loop.     - detect occurrence of two words in a text with regexp Hi, I'm searching for a pattern allowing to detect if a text has occurrence of two words (say word1 and word2), consecutive or not. I don't want a logical OR where (word1)|(word2) would be the solution. I want the two words being simultaneously in the text. So the text could be "some words word1 some other words word2 or word1word2 or word1 word2" I accept to not detect word2 being before word1 like word1...word2...word2...word1 I almost found a pattern with : re.global=true (word1)\s*(word2)|(word1)(\s+\w+)+\s+(word2) and why not be more complex with testing word1 and word2 being at the beginning of words like word1abc and word2xyz so the pattern will be (word1\w*)\s*(word2\w*)|(word1\w*)(\s+\w+)+\s+(word2\w*) If I dump the matchcol, I find each word1 and word2 listed but the matchcol.count doesn't give the right number of (word1, word2) pair occurrence. That's because the expression word1 words word2 words word1 words word2 is counted for one single occurrence as if it was : word1 (all words including word1 and word2 ignored) word2 Only the first word1 and the last word2 are taken into account. But the returned submatch content is word1 words word2 words word1 words word2 so any word1 and word2 is catched. I get also the same result with : (word1)(\s\w+)*\s*(word2) So I'm happy to know the two words are in the text but I can't use the result for replacing the words because I don't know where they are. Since I want to change the color of word1 and word2 in red, I must know the exact location.     - Using queried date to serach for data I'm having a problem with my asp pages. I have the first page set up to search for data by date and shift. The dates are retrieved by a query of all dates that are in the database, meaning that if a date has no data, then that date will not show up in the select box. The shift is a simple select box with three options in it. When I hit submit, if there's a date that has the same shift as another date, the date and the data from that date that posted first will show up, even if I selected another date.
