    - CreateObject fails in .VBS script file but works in .ASP file ! Hi, I can't instantiate an ActiveX component in a .VBS script file with this code : set myObject = createObject("ChilkatMail2.ChilkatMailMan2") This component is used to send mails and it's really an "ActiveX component". I receive the following error message : "Could not create object named ChilkatMail2.ChilkatMailMan2" Note that if I run this .vbs with Cscript or WScript I receive the same error message. I also tried to create object with this code : set myObject = Wscript.createObject("ChilkatMail2.ChilkatMailMan2") ... the result is the same. But now, if I try exactly the same code in an .ASP page it WORKS !!!!! The only difference is that I use Server.CreateObject (because it's ASP). This means that : - the component is correctly registered (I checked all the entry points with COM explorer) - all the dependencies are present on the system (I think so...) I'm logged on as Administrator, my system is Windows Server 2003 SP1 (x64) I spend two days searching the web and I didn't find the solution, could you please help me ? Thanks a lot !!!     - obtain external data Hi everyone: is there a way to obtain an external data from a file, let's say Microsoft excel , within a vbscript file ??.     - Set Internet Explorer as the default browser using VBScript I am in the process of automating the removal of an email client that is integrated with Internet Explorer. After I remove the client, the first time the users runs Internet Explorer it displays a message saying that it is not the default browser and would you like to make it the default browser.     - How long a user has been logged on for... I know this is far from a new question but I am looking for a way to determine how long a user has been logged on to a remote XP/2003 machine (either logged on locally or remotely via RDP). I know how to get who is logged onto a machine both locally and through RDP sessions so I don't need any help there. I've tried a combination of Win32_LogonSession and Win32_LoggedOnUser but that didn't work. I'm aware that when a user logs on to a machine in a AD environment it updates the "lastLogon" property for their account on the domain controller but there must be something stored locally on the machine. I base my previous comment on the fact that when you open the "Terminal Services Manager" mmc snap-in and connect to a remote machine it lists the currently logged on users, their session type (Console or RDP), their state (Active or Disconnected), idle time, and their Logon Time. I've done some looking and have had no luck finding where "Terminal Services Manager" get's its information from. If it were possible to use the information that is uses then you would have the logon times for the individuals logged on to a specific machine and it would be trivial to determine how long they have been logged on once you have that tidbit of information. Anyone have an idea or where "Terminal Services Manager" gets its information from or if you can interface with "Terminal Services Manager" via vbscript? Nate Tag: run on startup script Tag: 191096

    - Why Use Scripting I know here are millions of wonderful uses for automating with scripts (I use login scripts for numerous things) but I have a question regarding the use of scripts to create/delete AD user accounts. All of the scripts I have seen are really plain and simply create a domain account with no properties set. Not even the full name. It seems pointless to use a script like this as I still have to edit the account properties and fill in the blanks. I've also seen none that will create the associated Exchange mailbox. Since we perform a number of tweaks to a new account I had hoped to use scripting to make is simpler and more consistent. I must be missing something. I would envision a script that sets all the default properties for an account (i.e. disables terminal services) and prompts for input like Full Name, Ext, Fax, etc... as well as creating the Exchange mailbox.     - Excel Application.DDEInitiate fails if invoked from VBScript Hi all, I am very new to VBScripting. I have the following situation, I hope someone could help me out. I have to write the code in VBScript to invoke a macro in Excel, which is available as an XLA file. It has to be a VBScript, since a different program decides which macro should be invoked. It would then generate this VBScript file. The user could then download this VBScript and execute on his computer. All the XLA-macros are making some DDE requests, or opening other Workbooks. If I run the macros from VBA, or Excel, they work fine. But if I try to execute the macros from VBScript: * The DDEInitiate() function in the macro returns "0". * Workbooks.open(....) returns "Nothing". - Is there a way to solve these problems ? - Is there a better way to acheive the same solution ?     - Getting domain information from a machine not in the domain.. Essentially I am trying to come up with a more universal mapping/logon script - even for the laptop users who may be running a script to connect to their domain resources on occasion. The trouble so far has been that all the scripts I have done to check for domain membership and the likes, fail miserably when ran on a machine outside of the domain (not joined to the domain.) I assumed this was because the scripts, unless told, would be trying to communicate with the domain using local credentials - which would undoubtedly fail. In my research I came across a few pages mentioning this, including: http://www.rlmueller.net/NameTranslateFAQ.htm and http://www.scriptinganswers.com/Community/DiscussionForums/tabid/154/view/topic/forumid/6/postid/4108/Default.aspx However - implementing/testing those still gives me the dreaded: "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted" "Code: 8007054B" And I am positive the credentials are correct - am positive that I can contact the domain - as I am actually VPN'd into the network at the time and a simple \\domain.com\netlogon at the run prompt (subbing in my actual domain of course) works as expected and asks me for the username/password. I've verified DNS settings, verified everything I can think of is correct. I am likely missing something simple - and I would love if someone here could point out the thing I am missing..     - Folder Deletion Query Problem I hope someone can tell me where I am missing a step. I am trying to delete local profiles stored in Documents and Settings that do not match the last user to logon to a worksation.     - Debugging VBscript in embedded browsers I know how to debug a vbscript running in an HTML page being displayed in Internet Explorer. But what if IE is not stand alone, bur rather it is embedded in another application? When the script hits an error, all I get is an error notification, but not the option to open the debugger.     - Pre-setting print driver options Trying to set up a USB label printer through a Citrix session to a 2003 terminal server. I need to preset default form-to-tray assignment, the paper size, print density, and also write the printer name to an INI file. The problem: the printer name changes each time you log on. The name that MS creates for this is nasty - and example is "lp (on SOT5912) in session 39" The part "SOT5912" is the machine name, should be static for each station, but the session number, "39", changes EVERY time you log onto the server. I've tried "setprinter", but it doesn't have the proper settings and switches for my needs. I know it is not too hard to get the printer name - search for one that starts with characters "lp (on ", and use it. Presetting the needed driver settings is the real pain. I found the registry settings that need to be changed, but I need help. The setting that needs to be changed or inserted is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModePerUser and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\DevModes2. The name for the binary vaue is the printer name, it's the binary data needed that is my main problem. The rest of the data is static, and represents the needed printer settings. Anyone work with something like this before? My thoughts, I need a script to pull the appropriate printer name, create the hex data from the name with the 00 between letters, add the rest of the string as a pre-defined string, write the 2 needed registry entries. I have another registry entry to add to, but if I can get help with this hex entry, the rest of what I need will be EASY. Been working too long on this, trying to find the needed areas in the registry and verifying what was needed. Can someone help with the script? The script runs with backup operator permissions, and calls the scripting.filesystemobject. This used to work no problem, but at some point stopped working. (could be patch related?)     - Need help making script more efficient I have the following script to take Large_Logfile and split it up into several Smaller_Logfiles. Its very crude and could use some help so Im posting it here to see what you all can suggest. The purpose behind doing this may also be relivant(sp). What I am doing is taking a txt file of PC names and I have a Script we are running against that list to gather back information. If the PC Names list has alot of PC's in it it takes hours to run. What I want todo is split up the PC Names file into several smaller files and then run the script against all the smaller files at the same time to speed up the process. So far its cut the time down alot, the current state of the script is probably really raw and could use some assistance hence me posting it here. Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated.     - Creating AD users from Excel help Hey, I found this script on the internet to import users from an excel spreadsheet, and using LDAP, create accounts in AD. The script works fine if all the cells in the spreadsheet contain some type of data. However, in the speadsheet that I need to use, there are a lot of blank fields. I realize that the problem lies with the line; Do Until objExcel.Cells(intRow,1).Value = "" but I don't know how to modify it enough to allow the script to pass over blank cells and not stop.
