    - Call script from within another script fails Hello, I have two scripts that run correctly by themselves but when I call the second from within the first the process does not occur. I cannot read the error - the cmd box goes away too quickly. The first script will be called from the user logon script. The second will be run with elevated privileges and is called by the first. As I said above, each run correctly alone but fail when run together. When these scripts are run together, the process gets to the first message box in the second script then fails. I have marked with a row of "+" signs where the second script fails. I have run this script as a domain admin, local admin and reqular user. I have pasted the scripts below. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.     - IIS+authentication information into VBScript? I want to authenticate user on domain XXX with IIS and then provide this information to ASP page, how can I do that? What I'm stumped on now is a way to set the Security permissions to allow a set user access to the newly created folder and then ensure that is cascading.     - Help with skipping files I am writing a script to read through CSV files. The files contain 5 fields that I then parse and use to create some shortcuts on the START menu. I want to be able to have 1 script that reads through the files and adds the icons accordingly. And so far it works great. My problem is this: Not all the CSV files will be readable by all users. I hope to create several CSV files, and give only file rights to read for the users/groups that will require those shortcuts. For example: I will have a menu-common.csv file that will have shortcuts for all users. I then want one for HR, admin, receiving, shipping... to have their shortcuts. My current script is set to read them both. But if I run it as a user that does not have rights to read a CSV (like HR's CSV), the script just loops and never ends. Is there a way to set it so if it cannot read the CSV file, it will just go down the list to the next CSV? Like "On Error Goto Next Section" command.     - Determine logon and logoffs from which workstations Any ideas how I can script determining the last workstation a user has logged onto and logged off of? I know logins can be retrieved from AD with userstat.exe, but this does not tell me the location of the logons, nor if/when they logged off. I've also looked into parsing event logs, but events 538 and 540 did not contain workstation data, (even though there was a parameter for workstation, it was blank). Event 528 did contain the workstations, but there are not nearly as many 528's as there are 538. Any other ideas? Surely someone has done this already!!!     - read text from txt file and create directory from that Hello all I have a text file that basically contains one line that reads, as an example adduser -u jsmith -n "xxxxxxxxx now, what i'd like to do is to be able to make a directory name called jsmith, or whatever username that the text file will contain (as designated after the -u), and create a directory in that name. The username length will vary, but the -n will always appear after the username, and the -u will always appear before the username.     - little squares in output text Hello and thanks in advance for any help here. I am working on a script that is taking information from a database with no line breaks and passing the information through this function that I have designed to put line breaks in near a certain column size. The ultimate destination for the text is a text file. When I run this code on a piece of text with carriage returns already in it the function outputs little boxes or NewLine control chars wherever a new line needs to happen. Does anyone know of a way to get rid of those little boxes?     - File System Object network overhead I have a vbscript that looks through a folder structure for the most recently updated file. I noticed that when I point it at a network folder (\\server\folder) it does quite a bit more network I/O than I would expect. No big deal when I'm at work, on our 100Mb ethernet, but dialing in from home it becomes v e r y s l o w. When I go to a DOS prompt and use "dir /s" to display the same folders, it's much quicker (less network I/O). Is this just the way it is with the FileSystemObject? I'm ready to rewrite my folder access to attach the desired folder as a drive, and use the DOS DIR command to get the info I want. The script runs fine up to and including the net use command. After that though, it doesnt work; bascally I don't have permissions (with the script) to go to the newly mapped drive (the account I am using to run it is a domain admin). It converts for instance the character "Ã?" to D6(hexadecimal), but according to the ASCII-table(Extended ASCII codes) the value should be 99(hexadecimal). When I then use the method Request.QueryString the value is corrupt. I am aware of the Knowledge Base article 294831, but the service pack seems to make no difference in this case. I am a programmer and I would like to use WMI (great!) with Visual Basic 6.0 (or VBSCRIPT) to obtain services enumeration on a remote computer, just for see what services are running and so on. The code below works well with Win2K O.S., but there are no chances to use it with WinXP; every time the error description is "Authorization denied". I think this is a problem with WinXp access security, because the API EnumServicesStatus (and related) like the WMI code dont' works with WinXp, but works well with Win2K. Same consideration with the SC.exe utility from Microsoft : impossible to query the remote service dtabase on a WinXp O.S. IMPORTANT I am convinced that this is a problem related to the security and permission because, as I say, I can't execute the code remotely (i.e. enumerating services on a WinXp PC over the network from an another Win2K PC...) but the code works well If I use VB directly on a WinXp PC. Consider that the computers with WinXp O.S. are correctly registered on the network (LAN), beacuse I can browse they shared folders with Explorer. Can someone help me, please?     - Logon script Hi all, Looking for a programmer to help me with following: I am not familiar with vbscripting, but we are in desperate need for a logon script for our W3K domain clients. Clients are a mixture of NT4 SP5 and W2K Sp3 & 4 Up until now we used winbatch to perform certain tasks, but since this is an 'old' licence, we need to upgrade our scripts (and our licence). I want to switch to windows scripting to avoid to have to buy new licences for over 200 clients.. Current situation: Clients are members of one or more groups. In our netlogon share, we may have a CMD file with the same name of the group. When logging on, a login.cmd file is run. This cmd verifies if the user is member of a given group (GG-All). If not, it sends a net send to a given system, indicating the user is not a member of that group, and exits. If user is member of GG-All, the the winbatch script runs. The current winbatch script puts a full-screen window on the clients machine, used to indicate the progress in the logon. It then makes a list of all global groups the user belongs to. If there is a matching cmd file, then that cmd file is executed. (so if a user is memeber of 'GG-Testgroup' then 'GG-Testgroup.cmd' gets executed) Problems we have now: Most of the CMD files that are executed are doing four things: - Check if certain directories exist on the client machine. If not create them. - Creating network shares - Setting registry entries - Synchronising files between the fileserver and the client. We use robocopy to synchronise files (works perfectly). A lot of these CMD files have some sync-commands in common, so there is a possibility that these commands get executed more than once (resulting in lenghty logons....). These CMD files/groups are all named in the same format e.g. GG-SoftwareA, GG-SoftwareB, GG-SoftwareC, ... So what I need: Basically : same as above, but in vbs ;-) - Less code in login.cmd (I think the only line should be 'wscript login.vbs' , to please the NT4 machines...) - If user not memeber of 'GG-All' : message to user and \\console PC - Full screen window, listing user's display name, and a list of all the login 'jobs' that have to run (= all the groups a user is member of AND have a CMD file associated with it) (would be nice if an indication of already executed jobs could be made, or progress bar) - If user is memeber of at least 1 'GG-Software." group : execute common code in GG-Software.cmd - For all groups user is member of: execute group.CMD (minimized, or at least 'behind' logon screen) Someone can help me with this?
