    - trying to read a registry value DWORD Hi all I am trying to check what hardware profile this local machine is using. I want keep some drivers not running when they are not needed. This much I got. There is 4 profiles in my pc, and current profile was number 3. But there is no "hit", the last print command does not work. There is also a code in "http://cwashington.netreach.net/depo/view.asp? Index=570&ScriptType=vbscript" but it gives an error. This code is from MS.     - Use script to navigate web page? There is a web site I get information from. The site displays pages of items with individual checkboxes to select each item. There is also a checkbox to select all the item checkboxes. And there is the page numbers with Next and Previous. What I would like to do is log in to the site and navigate to the page I need, then automate (by script??) going through each page and selecting the Select All Checkboxes On This Page box. On the page, I can use Find to get to Next, tab once and hit Enter to go to the next page. And I can use Find to get Select All, Shift+Tab gets the checkbox before the words, and the spacebar selects the checkbox. I can do this for a couple of pages - more than 10 and I start wondering if I missed any! Plus I can't help but feel that a script or other automatino can do this much faster than I can! I do a bit of VBA macros in Word and Excel, and a few VB scripts (with much help!).     - SaveAs method not Working Hello all, Looking for a little help all the examples in MSDN have Doc.saveas("Myfile.doc") I want to use a variable and haveing tried such, it is just not working. doc.saveas(strMyDocs & "\" & ResID & ".doc") I have tried stuffing all into one variable and splitting it out into many but to no avail. but if I hardcode it .... All the variables have the correct data I am thinking that as soon as SAVEAS is called the Vars loose their ohhh whats the word.... "scope"/"meaning" ..     - Closing application properly I need some help w/ a possible VBScript for closing an application properly. Here is the situation: I need to do a backup of a very odd application. When backup's occur, all users must be out of that application. The only sticky part here is the application is very fussy as to how it has to be closed. If it is closed improperly, it will not allow the backups to occur. What I would like help with: vbs that warns users that they are going to be logged off of application 'Z' in 'x' minutes w/ a 5 minute reminder and then makes winoac.exe (application) active and starts sending the logout key sequence (just several esc keys). Because my knowledge of vbs (or any kind of scripting) is so minimal I'm embarrassed to post what I have thus far (which is actually wscript inside of vbs). One of the things this code does is read in a binary file and then return text to be put into a table.     - Script Error All, I am looking for some insight for a problem I am having in doing a series of calls to AD to populate a recordset. The error I receive is: (null): The server is not operational. On this line of code: Set objTarget = GetObject("LDAP://" & strDN & "," & Domain) This usually happens on the 1979 to 1984 call to AD. I have rebuilt the workstation (XP SP2) and the DC (WIN2K SP4) is a saved state virtual machine I can roll back to a baseline at will. Everything was running fine up to a couple days ago and I have reverted the code to a state that runs fine, but there is no functional difference in the current to the reverted code. ADUC will not pull up properties on a Group for a couple minutes after the error, displaying the "Server is not Operational" message on a blank object window. I have run traces on the workstation and server and nothing is out of the ordinary. I am stumped, in 6 years of ADSI this one is a new one on me. I am sure there is some boneheaded error or something I am overlooking. Any insight as to where I am going wrong is appreciated.     - USB - How can I ??? I have at least two USB devices providing service to/for at least two disk drives. One is an external drive plugged into one of the USB ports on my Koutech F7210 card reader: 4 types of memory cards = 4 drives being used, through just one (1) USB controller ( I think ). 2 USB ports 2 Firewire ports 1 external SATA port My basic problem is that when the PC boots up, my card reader uses/creates four (4) disk drives, one for each of the memory card types the system can deal with. I only have Compact Flash cards. Can I, and if so, HOW can I, disable three (3) out of the four (4) drives? ( BEFORE or AFTER the disk drives are created makes no differnece to me. I'd just like to be able to automate this process, if the capability exists. ) In fact, I want to **STOP** three (3) out of the four (4), so the three (3) "extras" will disappear. I've read elsewhere about disabling the external drive capability altogether, say for flash drives and such. But I don't want to get rid of ALL my USB drives, just "some" of them. Does anyone know? This question isn't simple and I have noticed often people ask for more information so I will give you the whole story upfront: I recently started a new job and in the past they have solved a lot of simple tasks by utilizing vbs files. I am pretty fluent in Visual Basic but a little new to vbs files so this has been an 'interesting' transition as it is. Currently I have a vbs file that runs a rather elaborate query against an SQL server, the data is exported to a csv file and then emailed to a client. This vbs file actually works really well, however the client has requested that we start uploading it to an sftp site instead. Instead of reinventing the wheel I assumed that I could replace a few email lines of code with a few ftp commands. I researched the web and found several examples utilizing ftp.exe. Through further research I found that ftp.exe offers no support for a port higher than 21. Therefore I assume that ftp.exe offers no support for sftp. Can anyone offer me a solution that will allow me to upload to an sftp server without rewriting this code in some other format! But when I use WriteLine to try and add to the file, nothing happens and the file has not been changed. It works when I have it modify the file on my hard drive, but when I try to have it modify the one on the website, it doesn't work. i need to run a script on a server that will look in a specific exchange
mailbox, and find the date on the oldest message in the inbox. the server
where the script will run is NOT an exchange server and does not have
outlook installed.

few questions... MUST i have outlook installed on the server where the
script runs? we'd rather not if at all possible. and second... anyone have
any idea, or example on how best to do this?
