    - wmi timeout on untactable workstations Hiya, I've created the script below, which queries each workstation in a input text file (pclist.txt) then returns the logged on user to a second text file (users.txt). It works fine, but the bit I'd like some advice on is that uncontactable (ie unpingable, not on the domain anymore etc) pcs cause the script to pause for a long time each time, despite my error checking. Anyone got any ideas? WOuld be greatly appreciated!     - Cannot Install Software on Remote PC Hi There Im trying to install software on a collection of remote PC's via the usual Micrsoft script. Finally I need to be able to send a script out to a certain range of subnets like 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x etc and find computers that have acertain file say called C:\test.txt. If the computers do have the file I would like a text file with the list. I would then like to execute the main script (calling the batch file and msi installer) against this list of PC's I appreciate this is a big request but any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Check IIS Site IDs and names Hi all, I'm trying to use VBS to check what Site ID's exist and what are their names. Can anyone point me to some good references to IIS VBS scripting or help me on the code? What I eventually want to do is change the expire immediately for a particular folder after I install it. This code works, but I need to take into account which site ID (right now it works if I hardcode the site id with set objIISRoot = GetObject("IIS://localhost/W3SVC/3/Root")) to run this on, because it depends on how many sites existed before it.     - How do I copy REG_EXPAND_SZ keys without expanding? I'm trying to copy a registry key and its values to another key. I can get the value of type REG_EXPAND_SZ keys but it looks like the string value is expanded in the process. As I am trying to copy from one key to another I would like to get the unexanded value.     - SQL and vbscript Trying to read a sql server 2005 table from a vendor and I'm not having any luck I'm getting the error : Invalid Object Name '_SMDBA_._CUSTOMER_' on execution of the select statement I'm not real skilled when it comes to attaching to sql. I have the sa as the authorizing account so I can attach. Ideas? The vendor has just installed the software and I have to sync up fields between AD and this app and I have zero experience with SQL 2005. So maybe there is a setting in sql that has to be configured.     - Opening Multiple Excel Workbooks Hi, I am tryong to creat a script that will read a server name from one workbook, do a discovery and write the results to another workbook template. I have been using a Txt file for my server name input file, but I though it would be more efficient to cut out the middle man by pulling the server names from the source.     - split function issue I am using the split function but have run into an issue. A spreadsheet has been saved to csv so my split function looks for seperator of ",". all works well except to when there is a comma inside quotes. As you know if there is a comma in a field when excel export it will place quotes around the value. for example: 1,test,"user, test",5590, xyz how can I overcome this issue? I've been toying with this script: http://cwashington.netreach.net/depo/view.asp?Index=980&ScriptType=vbscript I've been using it to pull serial numbers from PC's on the network. There is one problem.. it doesn't look like DELL flat panels store their entire S/N in EDID. It's segmented. For example: A serial number of: CN0123472872567890A comes out as: 1234567890A I know manufacturers aren't *required* to pass info into EDID, but does anyone know DELL serials well enough to know if there's a way to calculate the missing data? I've seen it work, too. :) However, I'm running it from my computer and I get an error message that says "The file exists".     - Convert .net xmlhttp code to vbs Can you please help me to finish converting the .net code below into vbscript? My vbs function at the end works when posting to another asp file on the same win server, but I need to post the xml to a .jsp file on a unix box. The jsp file just returns an internal server error. It crashes with a null pointer exception when trying to read the request. Presumably because it is not in an ascii byte array? How do I do those parts? If it is too complex, then let me know and I will use the .NET code as a relay.     - XML, VBScript, and HTA royal rumble I just started working with XML. However, I have been working with HTAs and VBScripts for a while now. I am building an HTA that would generate data into an XML file, and display it in a Data Island (which I found is the easiest way to display it in this case.. since there would an X number of data sources, with the same XML format). The problems came when I had to filter the XML data to show only a certain criteria. I could not embed XQuery code into the document as I am not sure if there is a way to get the XQuery and Data Island to work together to produce only a limited record set in the output table. I then started looking at multidimensional array sorting and class creation and sorting, I felt as though my mind was frying. XQuery seems much easier but there was no easy way to use it since the Data Island itself is a dynamic table with a dynamic data source spanning different data types. I thought probably the best way to achieve a filtered XML would be to obtain a XQuery application (a small portable parser) that would run against the original XML file producing a newer modified XML with the needed data.     - Is there a limit on WMI connections from one computer? I have some scripts which use WMI to get system info of printers, RAM, serial no., etc... Right now I want to use 10 copies of each script as there are about 10,000 computers I need to scan and doing the whole lot at once would take too long, especially if I need a report overnight. So I cut them up into 10 scripts to run at the same time, hitting 1,000 computers each, with all 10 scripts being identical except for the computer names and IPs they read from an excel sheet. The issue I'm having is that there seems to be a one session limit on WMI, so I can't run 10 scripts on one computer. The first script runs fine, the second I run on the same computer just quits after a few seconds (viewing task manager I see two wscripts, then it goes to one). associated members for each group. We need to find who has read access and
who has write access to the folder. This information then needs to be dumped
to an excel file for management review. If you have such a script publicly
