    - How do you change the logon background in Windows XP? After a user has entered their logon credentials on a Windows XP computer, logon begins. During this process a background is displayed between logon and the usersâ?? desktop displaying. This is the background which is displayed while logon scripts are running (the background is blue). Does anyone know where this can be changed (is there a registry key or a dll that can be changed)? Here is an overview: 1. A user enters their Logon Credentials into their Windows XP Desktop computer (they are logging onto a Windows 2003 domain). 2. Once these credentials have been verified Windows begins the logon process 3. During this process a blue desktop is displayed before the users desktop is displayed How is this background changed, can this be implemented through a vb script?     - Variable Issue I am building a HTA that will accept a list of users to be pasted into a textarea. It appears when using a text area textarea.value stores all input as one variable.     - Help, Help! Suffering from SciTE envy... hi gang, I have recently been attempting to familiarize myself with AutoIt. http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/ AutoIt is appealing from a scripting perspective in that it is a scripting language that has evolved into a programming language (with api calls and "forms capability") -- and continues to evolve as we speak (with a new release comming out every week!). The autoit gang has adopted the SciTE (Scintilla Text Editor) as a "development platform". The initial attraction was that SciTE allows for syntax-coloring, plus it is extremely customizable. And so, the autoit gang has been busy customizing. They have "hinting" (for language, but not typelibs), they have "expando" (type in "ifthen", and it will give you a template of a filled-in if statement), they have "tidy", they have auto debug and tracing capabilities, an "immediate" window (they call it a "console" window), and on-and-on. Oh yes, I forgot to mention the form designer. Very Impressive, plus this all comes at no cost to the consumer. This has given me a serious case of SciTE envy. SciTE does support a number of languages (about 30, gasp!) including vb and vbScript (no wsf). However, the vb/vbs support may be fairly characterized as primitive compared with the autoit support. I would guess that less than half the vbs keywords are defined. Alex K. Angelopoulos(sp?) apparently got interested in SciTE at one point, and did post an updated vbs keyword file (ca. Nov 2002) which is more complete, but still not totally complete. So (finally) here's the question. Has anybody out there in the vbs world taken it upon him/herself to customize and/or enhance SciTE for vbs, along the lines of the autoit enhancements? I am intrigued by the possibilities of SciTE for use with vbs, but don't want to waste time in "reinventing-the-wheel". Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking -- I should just go and raid my piggy-bank, and spend the $100 for a copy of PrimalScript.     - Changing the Local Administrator Password I have setup a script to query AD for everything that is a Computer Object. I am then taking that list and connecting to each workstation so that I can change the Local Admin Password. The query is at about 1500 workstations. Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & arrWorkstations(j) & "\root\cimv2") Since some machines are turned off, as well as some machine do not exist anymore, any machine that I cannot connect to is written to a file to chorten my next attempt.     - Permission Denied: Msgbox - Client-side Error I have an ASP application that I wrote for my company that's been in use for three years with this sporadic problem that I've never found a definitive answer to. I'm getting this error from the client-side vbscript, but only at this new site. When I change the msgbox function to alert, it works fine. I also have another page that generates client-side script to display a message box and this page generates the same error. When I change the server-side script to create an alert instead of a msgbox, it works. There has to be some I.E. setting that controls this problem. I'm aware that in several cases, using VBScript will not perform the expected action and I had to resort to Javascript, but this makes no sense at all. Any ideas would be appreciated.     - W2K3 Startup Script. ACCESS IS DENIED ERROR All. I have a startup script that runs on Windows XP Clients to install software when the computer starts up. Basically it's a batch file that runs the install command and parameters specific to each computer. This worked justed fine when the script resided on our Windows 2000 File server. We have upgraded the file server to WIndows 2003 Server. Now when the script runs I get ACCESS IS DENIED errors. I have added the 'domain computers' group to the NTFS share permissions on the folder where the script and software reside. I have even added 'Everyone' (Full Control) to the folders with the same result. Something has changed in W2k3 as far as shares / permissions for startup scripts or local system access but I dont know what. Anyone have any suggestions?     - Resetting the default value Is there any way to reset a default value in the registry to completely null via VBScript? The only method that has worked for me is deleting the value and letting it get recreated automatically. However, for the specific key that I need to change, the Users group has permission to create/change values but not to delete. If it helps, the key is HKLM\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources. If the default value of this key is set to a non-null value, even an empty string, the ODBC applet will not display any newly created data sources in the System DSN list.     - flushing stdout in a HTA ? Hello, I am quite new to MS-scripting; I wrote a script in .vbs catching several OS characteristics for a local computer. Now I would make this look pretty, and I am trying to send the output into a .hta : it works nicely, but the script is rather slow, and the .hta won't output the lines each time I write them, but all the lines at once : so unaware people may stay and wonder what is happening. Could I flush the output buffer in some way ? I browsed MSDN, but without great success. I tried outputting to the document itself using : Set objDocument = self.Document objDocument.open (...) objDocument.writeLn items ... and also the <SPAN> DataArea technique. Without success, all the lines are output in one time. (In the .hta, all the instructions are stored in the window_onload sub.) Does anybody have a hint ? Regards R.     - runas substitute Hi there! I would like to know if there is a way to locally run a program with different credentials form those of the current user, without invoking the "runas" command. In other words I need vbscript code who launch an application with an username and password provided as variables in the code itself, without asking the user. I tried WMI, using "WbemScripting.SWbemLocator" object and "objLocator.ConnectServer" method but they only works remotely, not locally. Any idea?     - Problem with Protect method in MS Word. I'm building a web interface to allow users at a medical office to view/print/fax MS Word documents. However, these documents must be protected against changes by the viewing users. So I am endeavoring to copy the original file and then use the Protect method as a locking tool. It seems to work fine on my XP Pro laptop with Word 2003, but not on our Windows 2003 server with Word 2000.     - Processor Time Dedicated to Running a Script I have a script that performs some database queries. On my test system, it uses all of the available process time. If I look at Task Manager, the processor graph is pinned at the top. I run the same script on a customer's machine and it will only give the script 10% of the processor time with 75% of the process at system idle.
