    - Single logon script per user, multiple computers Hi, I have a network which consists of desktop PC's, Workstations, a Server and some Laptops. Each platform has Win XP Pro SP2 deployed on it. The Server contains the data and files for all users and each user has a roaming profile. If a user logs onto the network at a desktop they need to have their data uploaded from the Server. When they logoff the Server is updated. Same story for Workstations and Laptops. However, the startup and startmenu needs to be different and depends on the platform that the user is logging onto. For instance, when a user logs onto a Laptop the software for the Mobile Office Card (3G) needs to initialise. When the user logs onto a Workstation they need to have the software compilers in the Applications Menu and no MOC initialisation as the workstations have no MOC. When they are on a Desktop they need the entertainment software and not the compilers and MOC and so on. How do I create a logon script that recognises the platform that the user is logging onto and then puts the right applications at their disposal?     - VBScript Writting to the Event log Is there a way to write to the event log but be able to specify the "Computer" field? Using the Shell.LogEvent we only have type and description available to us to use and the eventcreate command line utility does not have this field either. This problem comes in when you write an event to a remote computer, The "Computer" field will show up as the souce computer and not the remote computer. Then, in another part of the script, I want to check that the window hasn't been closed before trying to modify its properties.     - Error handling bug on GetObject? Hi, I seem to have hit a bug in the error handling of VBScript. I ran into the problem when trying to assign a user to a group, but the group doesnâ??t exist. If Error Handling is not turned on, then the script crashes on the GetObject statement as expected. However, I want to catch and log the error, and continue on with the script. So, I used the normal code: Set objGroup = GetObject(â??LDAP://cn=Sales,cn=Users,dc=fabrikam,dc=comâ??) If Err.Number <> 0 Then WScript.Echo â??Error â?? unable to bind to groupâ?? Instead the Script drops out of the function back to the main routine. The WScript.Echo directly after the GetObject was added to verify that the problem was on the GetObject line, not with the Error Handling afterwards. In this simplified sample program, the program does not crash at the GetObject (though it will, as expected, without the On Error Resume Next), instead it simply drops back to the main routine. In this particular case, reporting â??Set Group Fineâ??. The full script where I ran into this problem is much more complicated, and the GetObject is in nested routines. The main routine calls a subroutine, which calls another subroutine, which calls the function that contains the GetObject statement. In this complex program, the script drops all the way back to the main routine, not just out of the Function. So far, I have not found any code examples for testing for the existence of a Group the way I can test for the existence of a file. With the GetObjectâ??s incorrect behavior when an error occurs Iâ??m not even sure how such a test can be written and incorporated into real-world scripts, as such error handling belongs in a Function or Subroutine. In most complex scripts you probably wouldnâ??t even know the data you are looking for until you were into a subroutine or function. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a handful of file lists for files that are in a directory structure and in order to upload the files via ftp, i need to prepend the filelist with some text i.e. 'put directory\' for each line in the text file.     - Excel object... AEONS! Hi, I have a script where I'm doing this: objExcel.Workbooks.Open strFile objExcel.Cells(EXCEL_DATA_ROW_START, EXCEL_DATA_COLUMN).Select Which works (almost) perfectly... It just takes FoReVeR!!! I'm opening the file from a UNC share, and I've timed it about 15 times, and the average came out at 17 seconds for the first line, and 11 seconds for the second! And all the second line does is select a cell! am I using something incorrectly? Should it really take almost 30 seconds to open an Excel file and get the contents of a cell? (And this is running on a P4, 3,0GHz, 2GB, XP SP2, so it can't be because it's a slow machine!) If I open the file manually, it takes an average of 4 seconds to open, and then as quick as I can be with a mouse to select a cell and copy its contents.     - Attempting to Run a script with Admin privileges Hey, We have an admin wrapper here that runs using local admin rights. It uses the run as command to kick off a script with privileges but when we put it into AD login scripts it runs ok but as soon as something takes focus away from the command prompt window it stops the password from being passed and it sits there prompting the user for a password. Here is the script we are using is there anything we can do to get around having to bring up the command prompt to pass the password or is there a decent third party ap that could do it for us.     - deleting folders created more than 3 days old I am writing a script that deletes any empty folders created more than 3 days ago. It won't however go more than 4 days. I am not sure I understand why. It is a case statement that checks for the current date and 3 days prior and ends with: Case Else objFSO.DeleteFolder(strFolder) 'uncomment this to delete the folders Any ideas why it would stop after 4 days? If I call a service which returns only one value there is no problem. But if I try to call a webservice which returns an array of objects i get some problems.     - Error Handling Hello friends, I have written a script that goes through folder looking for a sub-folder named "Cookies". If it filnds Cookies then it will enumarate all files in that folder and delete te files which are older than 7 days. I want to implemnet error handling where it reports what is wrong if it cannot perform the above mentioned functions and contunie with the loop. It displays the error message if there is a directory permmission related issue and exits the script rather than going through it. Can youplease point out the error? I need to write a script to go thru many small Powerpoint presentations and embed new versions of movies in the ShockWaveFlash object. I can get to the right slide and detect the OleObject for the Flash but I can't figure out how to reference/modify it from the script. It's crude but I loop thru the slides looking for the OleObject ActiveWindow.Selection.SlideRange.Shapes(i).Select Select Case .Type Case msoOLEControlObject 'Type 12 If it's a OLEControlObject then I have the right page (all it contains is the ShockWave Flash movie. I just want to embed a new movie on this slide then save the presentation and move on. Is this possible?. If someone has a code snippett, it would help a lot..     - HTA Logon Script I'm trying to create what I think would be a simple logon script. I've posted the general idea of what I want my log in script to do. We have AD 2003 wither xp and 2000 clients. I was assuming that it would be easy to crate a vbscript and then convert it to HTA. But I can't find any websites that are very clear. Can any one please suggest a beginners website? What I want to do is: -Have IE start with no tool bar or close button: -Display the school logo -Display a welcome message -Perhaps displeay something like the date and time and the name of the computer they're logged on to -Map several drives and then display the drives that are mapped (i.e. "Your home drive is H:, The Documents Drive is R:) -Map one or two printers and display the mapping -Display a link to report computer issues to the help desk -Display a link that goes to another HTA to allow users to add/delete printers -Display a link that goes to instructions of how to upgrade their computers to XP (a link to instructions to explain how to inititate an unattended install) -Then display a 'Close this window" -Just for fun, I thought it might be fun to have it setup so that when they click the close this window button, either it moves five inches and they have to click it again. Or it brings up another window saying "Are you sure you read the instructions" Or are you sure you want to close this window? But that would only confuse/annoy people so I wouldn't do it. It's just a passing thought. After they read it the first couple of times anyway, they'd know just to hit enter twice so they could ignore the messages.     - VBS file imports xml into access adp Hi everyone, I have a vbs file on a timed WinXP scheduled task that opens up Access 2003 then deletes older data from mssql server tables and then imports from an xml file using objAccess.ImportXML. This worked perfectly until last night when the server with the xml on it was down. Is there a way to check to make sure the xml is there before the routine starts? I pull from the database the total number of spaces available for the specified event and then compare that to the number of people they want to send to the event to determine if there is space available. I know this doesn't take into account if there are already registrations, that is the next step, but for now the compare is failing. When I write out the values, I get that the num_spaces is right, let's say 12 and the rs("space_available") is right, 225, but the compare is wrong, it resolves to bln_space="false". Now, I have been working on isolating this problem for like 18 hours (pathetic, I know), so perhaps some fresh eyes/minds can see where I have gone astray? Any input would be most appreciated. According to the documentation for the Write method, it's expecting a Variant array of bytes. A type check of the Shell.RegRead call reveals that it does return a variant array containing bytes. The same thing happens if I replace the Shell.RegRead call with an Array of integers converted to bytes. The only thing that I can think of is that the Write method is expecting strongly-typed bytes, which is not possible in script. Is that the problem?     - Updating Access Information VIA VBS I have created an Access Database with a corresponding table to a script being executed. The vbs script will be executed at logon of a variety of different PCs (At this time not in an ADSI). When executed it will fill in the table with a variety of system information; comp name, ram, cpu, ect.... I have pretty much tweaked and finish the script to my liking, the only stage I have left is make sure that upon logon the script will check for updates to any of the system information, if updates exists to change the proper fields listed under that computer name (in the row). Currently I am using the computer name as the primary key, to avoid duplicate computer entries. (If there is a better way to handle duplicate information please let me know!) I found the following in TechNet Office Space. I believe the answer to my question is some how intertwined to a Recordset.Update, but I am unsure how to approach doing this. I have a script which configures a lot local settings when we build a new
Windows (2k3) server. About the only thing I haven't been able to configure
with the script is the local security and audit policies that our SOP
requires.

I've been searching the net for a week and haven't found anything yet.

How can I script to edit local security or audit policies for WinSvr 2k3?
