    - Reading file from certain point Hi chaps, I need a script to search a log file (whose name is DD-MM-YYYY.log) for an error (for example "AN ERROR!"). However, even though the script rolls over each day, the files can get very large, and errors occur often. This script will be run at regular intervals (every 15 mins I reckon at the mo) and needs to return something like a 1 if an error string was found and a 0 if not. This value in turn will be used by the alerting package to fire off alerts and poke things to get it working again. Now, i've got all that working more or less (getting the date bits to auto-fill the filename is being a pain) expect for one important bit. In my script, the log file is opened and then searched line by line, and if an error is found, 1 is returned. The problem is that it restarts from line 1 each time it's fired, so basically we are always getting alerts, even for alerts we have already been told about. What I need is some way to store the last line that was checked by the script, and to start from the following line on the next check. I guess this would in turn have to save the line number to a text file and read it back when the check starts next. Any ideas how I can do the latter bit?     - Using ASP to loop thru an XML file and generate HTML Hi All and thanks in advance for any help I can get with this! I'm very new at ASP/XML/HTML, but pretty comfortable with VB/VBScript. I've been tasked with some web content development tasks, and among them is a 'catalog' style page of images. Rather than hard-coding all the items, I wanted to use an XML file to store all the image paths and descriptive text, and just loop thru it to generate the HTML I need. Later on I'll be adding things like filters on category, etc., but for now I just want to get a simple protoype working.     - Can't Pull Installer Engine Patch File Property I am writing a script to push a small number of patches. I need to make a decision in the script based on the contents of the "Installer Engine" property, but can't find the Class that exposes this property. From the GUI you can find the information by viewing "Other version information" on the Version tab. I have noticed that the version tab only shows up for .exe files and the Installer Engine property only exists for patch files. I have tried filever and done some searching on msdn, but came up empty. If you know how to pull this info using vbscript or know of a command- line tool that will display the Installer Engine property please reply.     - Search through permissions of all accounts on mail enabled users All, I am currently searching for the right way to complete this task. I need to enumerate all users within an OU that have mailboxes. Then I need to check the ACL's on those mailboxes for any users that are listed but do not have full control of the mailbox.     - VBScript Regular Expression Hi, I am putting together a quick (I hoped...) ASP page using VBScript to parse some data, add some stuff up, and display it to a user. Unfortunately, I had to whip the page together that took that data in a big hurry and some fields were left blank. Now when I parse the data, these empty fields are causing an error. Also, some people put characters in where there were supposed to be numbers. Bad job on developing the page to take the data on my part. However, I am trying to just check to see if something is NOT a number, and replace it with a 0. This will be fine for my needs. I am getting zero matches on the regular expression! Forgive me, I am not used to doing these in VBScript but have used regex in Perl and JavaScript. I am not sure if I am just messing up or if it is a VBScript nuance. The file contain lines like the following : "XXX@MyCompany.com" I want a VBScript that will create a "New mail" in outlook (Outlook is already opened).     - Playing with multidimensional array!? Hi! I need to play with a multidimensional array in VBScript, but I`m about to turn crazy with the way they are implemented into VBScript! I need to start with an empty array, and start filling it with two dimension data like: Row 1, Column 1 = mailbox.LegacyDN Row 1, Column 2 = mailbox.ServerName Row 1, Column 3 = mailbox.LastLogonTime Row 1, Column 4 = mailbox.Size Row 2, Column 1 = mailbox.LegacyDN Row 2, Column 2 = mailbox.ServerName Row 2, Column 3 = mailbox.LastLogonTime Row 2, Column 4 = mailbox.Size and so on... and after gathering all mailboxes informations on all Exchange Servers, I will be able to match Active Directory Users by seeking this table for the corresponding ExchangeLegacyDN. Actually, I'm defining the array with Dim aMailboxes(), and adding data to it by using the REDIM PRESERVE, but where I'm really confused, it is how the REDIM the two dimension and after that, assigning values to the new Row added... someone expert or familiar with that could help me?     - Silly VBScript IsDate problem I haven't used VBScript in a couple of years. I have a textbox and a custom validator on the screen. The validator calls a vbscript function ValidateDate which uses IsDate to validate incoming date strings. It will catch gross errors like letters but it's passing date strings like '13/12/2007'. I don't remember having this problem before. My machine's regional setting is English (US).     - For Each loop writing on same line Hello, I have a script where I read an input file, which contains a bunch of URL strings of differing sizes. I split each element into an array based on the slash ("/"). After that, I take one of the elements from the array, and change it to another, and then put the URL string back together. The issue I'm having is when I put it back together in a for each loop, it writes each element onto its own line. Also, at the end of the line it puts a slash at the end. How can I get each element to print on the same line, also omitting the final slash? Here's the snippet of my code that does all this work... Any help is greatly appreciated!     - DOS program does not run - Help please As part of a much larger script I am trying to get some of the Local security settings on a server using the DUMPSEC program. The program resides on the local systemdrive of the server, though I would prefer running it from the mapped drive where the script resides. In either case my code does not run the program. If I run the command from the command line the output file is created. When I run the following code the script hangs and the output file is never created.     - When vb script finishes, still have to wait several seconds before All, I have a VB program that executes several scripts in sequence... so it has to wait for each script to finish before the next one runs. The scripts themselve take only a few seconds to run, however it takes several seconds before the command prompt is returned and the window is closed (and the vb program can continue). Why is it that when a script finished, it still takes several seconds before the command prompt is returned? Is there a way to solve this.     - I want an argument, but "Scheduled Tasks" just ignores me Hi, I'm trying to automate some tasks using VBS WSH scripts. Although they seem to see/handle any arguments passed when run via the command prompt, the arguments are apparently not making it through when the same script is run as a scheduled task. Here's a very simple script showing the problem:- If WScript.Arguments.Count > 0 Then WScript.Echo WScript.Arguments(0) Else WScript.Echo "No" End If When I run this via the command line:- M:\>test.vbs argument I get the expected response "argument". When I create a scheduled task that contains this line in the "Run:" box:- M:\test.vbs argument I get the response "no". Putting quotes around "M:\test.vbs" or around "argument" makes no difference. If I try running a non-WSH script via scheduled tasks (e.g. invoking GVIM with the name of a file as the first argument), it sees the argument works fine. So what's happening?     - File Copy with ouput to log I want to say thank you to first to anyone who can help this novice! ;O) ...very novice at scripting I need a script that can perform a file copy, and output info to a log. I have approximately 4000 CD's I need to copy to a local hard drive. In the process I need to keep track of how much time it takes to copy each CD which consist of one file to multiple files and folders. I also need to verify the Checksums against each other with MD5sum.exe. Optimaly I would like to create a log file that is appended each time with all that information. Here are the steps of what I am envisioning: Create folder: d:\location\new_folder_name (from user input) copy file(s): copy e:\* d:\location\new_folder_name Checksum: md5sum d:\location\new_folder_name\* Output to logfile: ******************************************** new_folder_name Original file MD5 (or even if possible something like Copy MD5 MD5 = verified as an output from Total time for the process = hh:mm:ss checking them both) ******************************************** This doesn't seem like it would be a particularly tough script but I have so little experience I can't figure it out.     - Select Case? I have a script that adds a group to the local admins group on a list of servers. I have it working where it adds the group if it doesn't exist and writes success to a spreadsheet, if the server is not pingable it writes "server unreachable" and moves on. The problem is if the group already exists, it will fail stating the group already exists. I have tried if then elseif statements and tried to use select case a bit but can not get it to work - i woant it to check if the group already exists and output "Exists" in the spreadsheet and move on. Hi, Can any body help me in finding WMI class for retreving the RSOP security
options like as Ex: RSOP_AuditPolicy which will give the RSOP values of the
audit policy. we have "RSOP_Security settings" but this is giving account
