    - DLL unload problems Hi, I have done an COM component in VC 6. I'm using it from VBScript. The code is something like: Dim obj Set obj = CreateObject("Comcom.Interface1") cver = obj.GetVersion Set obj = Nothing My problem is that the DLL that contain the COM is unloaded from memory only when the Internet Explorer window is closed.     - Append Path Statement for System Level Environmental Variables I work with a program that has an add-on module that only requires a modification to the environmental variables PATH statement no installation. I'm looking to use a VBScript to append the PATH statement in the System Vaiables for that workstation. I need to add "J:\MyProg\Folder;J:\MyProg" to the PATH statement. I'm still new at this VBScripting but it would make my life easier instead of running to all the machines and added this setting.     - SPY++ in vbscript or wsh? Just curious, has anyone ported the SPY++ utility to vbscript or wsh? I have an HTA with 2 frames: one is a Web page and the other is a script running from the local drive. In the script frame, I'd like to determine if a particular application is running, look for certain fields, extract the data, and plunk it into fields in the Web page frame. I'd imagine that the code to look for a running application and extract fields from it would be much like what SPY++ does. Has anyone ported SPY++ to a scripting language?     - Sending mail via VBS A bit of a newbie here, trying to convert a load of UNIX scripts to VBS on W2k server. I want to send a mail message from a stand-alone VBS script, and can't find anything in the docmentation about it. I won't have an Outlook form open so can't use that path. Can I use Outlook Express or will my customer have to pay for Outlook? And, even then, how do I program it? Presumably I use CreateObject("Outlook.Application") but how do I send the mail?     - wsh equivalent to VAR() function Is there a windows scripting host function equivalent to visual basic's VAR() funtion? I'm comparing two large arrays containing data from separate files on seperate computers. It seems that the internal program process doesn't recognize the array elements appropriately. Particularly when using operators such as greater or less than (>,<,=, etc...). example would be something like this: Array1(x,y) > Array2(z,m) And the Array1 element would always return GREATER than no matter the size of the number (even if it is LESS than) the Array2 element. This is fixed in visual basic when I apply the VAR() to the arrays: VAR(Array1(x,y)) > VAR(Array2(z,m)) That works! Hence my original question, since I need a script to do said procedure..     - copying array into 2D-array On one page I have several checkboxes in a form: time0, time0, time0 time1, time1, time1 by naming each checkbox time0, I create an array of size 3. Of course the same applies to the time1 variable. Now i do a SUBMIT via "post" method and i'm on the next page. I have a 2d array: dim myarray(3,2) i want to place each timeX variable into it's appropriate spot. Maybe I am missing some relevant point, but I am unable to start interactively Outlook from a .vbs script I used a syntax like: set myShell = CreateObject("Wscript.Shell") err.clear myShell.run "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\outlook.exe" msgbox err.number but it does not work. No Outlook windows is created and the error code I get sounds like -2147024894 I used the same syntax to run another .exe file and it works.     - Getting username of intranet user Hi, On our intranet checkout page (used for telephone orders) we want to know which person placed an order. Everybody is using Internet Explorer. We have tried the following code to get the Windows username: <script language="VBScript"> Set objWinShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") document.checkout.added_by.value= objWinShell.ExpandEnvironmentStrings("%USERNAME%") </script> But it doesn't seem to work, even when "Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" on the Local Intranet security settings is set to Enable. We get "ActiveX component cannot create object: WScript.Shell" errors. Windows Script Host is installed. Does anyone have any ideas how we can implement this functionality? I have written the script to parse them, and am currently using an argument so that I can simply drag and drop the file to be parsed on to the script. I need a way to execute all the files at once without having to do each one seperately. For instance, If I have a folder called "Text Files" and inside that folder resides 100 text files with the following naming comvention: log1.txt log2.txt log3.txt etc... After parsing the files, the output is put in a file called "Text Files Output" and inside that folder will reside the output text files i.e. log1_output.txt log2_output.txt log3_output.txt etc...     - Calling client side COM objects from a web page I have some processess (EHLAPPI) and dlls (custom DLLs to get contents of encrypted files) that I want to call from a web page. All of the stuff I've read indicates that I can only do this using VBScript executed on the client side (which makes sense given you don't want hackers regisering COM objects and formatting your drive, etc.). The exe's and dlls I've created as COM server objects (using the ATL wizard in .NET) I've created a COM Server using .NET for instance for the Ehlappi process that I want to start, the COM info is: [ module(EXE, uuid = "{22CA2E94-69A2-4386-9161- 6E797F93E4C8}", name = "EhllapiServer", helpstring = "EhllapiServer 1.0 Type Library", resource_name = "IDR_EHLLAPISERVER") ]; It mentions that it creates a WinMain method for you I've created a simple HTML page: <html><head><title>My Test</title></head> <body> <script language="vbscript" type="text/vbscript"> Dim objEhlappi Set objEhlappi = CreateObject("EhllapiServer") document.write("<b>Is the COM object launched??</b>") </script> </body></html> Bringing up this page in IE though I get a VBScript Error: Error: ActiveX component can't create object 'EhllapiServer' I'm not much of a VBScript person, I don't know if this is because it can't find the COM objects, or because of some security issue (I'm logged in as an administrator). Some questions I would REALLY apprciate some help on: 1) Is the approach that I'm taking correct? 2) What Registry settings can I check to see if the COM object is registered, how would I register this on another local PC? 3) How can I get more information about the error? Can I get lasterror via VBScript for instance. Where can I look this error up 4) To actually invoke the process I'm assuming I would do a objEhlappi.WinMain() does anyone have any examples of this (I assume I'd pass in my command line parameters here as a string??)     - Copying Files (Wierd one) I have a batch file I got from somewhere that runs a backup. The file contains the following lines: copy "c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\microsoft\windows nt\ntbackup\data\*.log" "c:\backup\backlog.txt" del "c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\microsoft\windows nt\ntbackup\data\*.log" As you probably know, when ntbackup creates a report, it increments the name. Since the last line of the code deletes all files with the .log extension, when the batch runs again, the only log file in the folder is the one for that backup job. That said, how is it possible that it can copy the file using the wildcard and save it as backuplog.txt? What I am trying to do is do this within a vbscript. I cant seem to do it using CopyFile, so I tried to do it via a WScript.shell leaving me with the following command: Return = shell.Run ("copy ""c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\microsoft\windows nt\ntbackup\data\*.log"" c:\backup\backlog.txt""") This code does not work. It keeps telling me that it cannot find the file specified. Is this because the syntax of my quotation marks is wrong. I have writen a number of VBScript functions that exploit the Excel automation interface. I use these VBScript functions to open an Excel workbook, read/write data, and close the workbook. If I access this workbook in a sequential fashion I do not have any problems but if I try to access the same workbook from two or more machines then one of the machines eventually opens the workbook in read-only mode and fails to perform its write operation. That is, it prompts me to save the file under a different name or location because the source file was in read-only mode. I thought that if I configured the workbook as a shared workbook that I would be able to have multiple concurrent connections to the same workbook and that each connection would be allowed write access but as I stated above sometimes one of the machines ends up with a read-only connection. Are there any known limitations with the automation interface and the shared workbook setting? Below are two of the functions that I have writen. The "field name" is the value found in the first row of the field. Any data writen to the workbook is offset by one row to account for the field header (field name). At one point I attempted to check for the read-only state inside the SetCellByFieldName function and close the file and re-open it until I got write access but I was unable to get this to work consistently. If anyone can give me some direction I would very much appreciate the help! does not exist using newprof, a utility existing on the Office Resource kit.
However, how can I say that a user profile does not exist for a specific
user?

Its contained in the registry.
Look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles (for NT users) for
default profile.
