    - How to do batch processing on multiple files I have several hundred text files that I need to parse. I have written the script to parse them, and am currently using an argument so that I can simply drag and drop the file to be parsed on to the script. I need a way to execute all the files at once without having to do each one seperately. For instance, If I have a folder called "Text Files" and inside that folder resides 100 text files with the following naming comvention: log1.txt log2.txt log3.txt etc... After parsing the files, the output is put in a file called "Text Files Output" and inside that folder will reside the output text files i.e. log1_output.txt log2_output.txt log3_output.txt etc... Is there a way to execute a script for every text file in the folder and create the proper output file names?     - Figuring Instances of a Day Hello, This is probably a pretty easy question, but what I am trying to do is figure out what instance of a day each day is in a particular month. For example: Today is Wednesday. I know its the first Wednesday of the month. I would like the script to be able to tell me that it is the 1st Wednesday (or the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th) of the current month.     - Calling client side COM objects from a web page I have some processess (EHLAPPI) and dlls (custom DLLs to get contents of encrypted files) that I want to call from a web page. All of the stuff I've read indicates that I can only do this using VBScript executed on the client side (which makes sense given you don't want hackers regisering COM objects and formatting your drive, etc.). The exe's and dlls I've created as COM server objects (using the ATL wizard in .NET) I've created a COM Server using .NET for instance for the Ehlappi process that I want to start, the COM info is: [ module(EXE, uuid = "{22CA2E94-69A2-4386-9161- 6E797F93E4C8}", name = "EhllapiServer", helpstring = "EhllapiServer 1.0 Type Library", resource_name = "IDR_EHLLAPISERVER") ]; It mentions that it creates a WinMain method for you I've created a simple HTML page: <html><head><title>My Test</title></head> <body> <script language="vbscript" type="text/vbscript"> Dim objEhlappi Set objEhlappi = CreateObject("EhllapiServer") document.write("<b>Is the COM object launched??</b>") </script> </body></html> Bringing up this page in IE though I get a VBScript Error: Error: ActiveX component can't create object 'EhllapiServer' I'm not much of a VBScript person, I don't know if this is because it can't find the COM objects, or because of some security issue (I'm logged in as an administrator). Some questions I would REALLY apprciate some help on: 1) Is the approach that I'm taking correct? 2) What Registry settings can I check to see if the COM object is registered, how would I register this on another local PC? 3) How can I get more information about the error? Can I get lasterror via VBScript for instance. Where can I look this error up 4) To actually invoke the process I'm assuming I would do a objEhlappi.WinMain() does anyone have any examples of this (I assume I'd pass in my command line parameters here as a string??)     - Copying Files (Wierd one) I have a batch file I got from somewhere that runs a backup. The file contains the following lines: copy "c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\microsoft\windows nt\ntbackup\data\*.log" "c:\backup\backlog.txt" del "c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\microsoft\windows nt\ntbackup\data\*.log" As you probably know, when ntbackup creates a report, it increments the name. Since the last line of the code deletes all files with the .log extension, when the batch runs again, the only log file in the folder is the one for that backup job. That said, how is it possible that it can copy the file using the wildcard and save it as backuplog.txt? What I am trying to do is do this within a vbscript. I cant seem to do it using CopyFile, so I tried to do it via a WScript.shell leaving me with the following command: Return = shell.Run ("copy ""c:\documents and settings\administrator\local settings\application data\microsoft\windows nt\ntbackup\data\*.log"" c:\backup\backlog.txt""") This code does not work. It keeps telling me that it cannot find the file specified. Is this because the syntax of my quotation marks is wrong.     - get default value Hi, i'm working on an asp project that will work similar to enterprise manager for remotely managing some aspects of a sql database. What i'm stuck on is how (in vbscript or with SQL commands) can i find out what the default value (if any) is for a given column of a given table?     - Excel automation and Shared workbooks Please forgive the multi-group posting! I was not sure which group would be most appropriate for this question! I have writen a number of VBScript functions that exploit the Excel automation interface. I use these VBScript functions to open an Excel workbook, read/write data, and close the workbook. If I access this workbook in a sequential fashion I do not have any problems but if I try to access the same workbook from two or more machines then one of the machines eventually opens the workbook in read-only mode and fails to perform its write operation. That is, it prompts me to save the file under a different name or location because the source file was in read-only mode. I thought that if I configured the workbook as a shared workbook that I would be able to have multiple concurrent connections to the same workbook and that each connection would be allowed write access but as I stated above sometimes one of the machines ends up with a read-only connection. Are there any known limitations with the automation interface and the shared workbook setting? Below are two of the functions that I have writen. The "field name" is the value found in the first row of the field. Any data writen to the workbook is offset by one row to account for the field header (field name). At one point I attempted to check for the read-only state inside the SetCellByFieldName function and close the file and re-open it until I got write access but I was unable to get this to work consistently. If anyone can give me some direction I would very much appreciate the help!     - office charting component I don't know if I'm on the right board, but here goes. I'm trying to create a pie chart in my web application. The data displays fine on a plain page with no <table> tags.     - VBScript:Update One Access DB from Another I need to write a procedure that inserts data from one Access database into another Access database through VBScript. I imagine that this would be done with Recordsets. Can anyone post an example of how to do this for me? Basically I would want to: 1. select name, date, status from table in 1st database 2. insert that result set into a history table in another database, checking to be sure that it won't create duplicate rows.     - Retrieve Network card Configuration I need to retrieve the network card configuration on a remote PC, namely the DNS Suffix Search list. Below is the code I am using. The code works but returns information twice as if there were two network cards in the PC. The PC is Windows 2000 and only has one network card. I have tried it on many PC's and it does the same thing. The code is straight out of the Microsoft Portable Script center. Is there a problem with the For statements? strComputer = "."     - Retrive User SID via VBScript I have been trying to create a script to do something very tricky which is delete local user profiles from a workstation using a variable for the profile name in question. Obviously the correct way from the console is to go to the System Properties-User Profiles tab because doing it from the Docs & Settings directory still leaves Reg entries. So, I can do it manually and know the registry locations to delete the data however it's done by the SID of the user account. My problem is how to get the user SID for the account. In the 2k Reskit I have the GETSID command available however it gives way too much data and calling it from a script only runs the command but doesn't give me the output back into my script. What I was looking for was just a brief message indicating a program was started and running. Instead I get a Popup I must dismiss manually. What gives?     - Retrieving Network Card Configuration This is the script I am using to retrieve network card configuration from a remote Windows 2000 computer. It is striaght from the Microsoft Portable Script Center. The script works and retrieves the information but it retrieves the information as if there were two network cards in the PC. I have run this on multiple PC's with only one network card and each time it retrieves information twice for the same adapter.     - Get the default user name of pc using a text file contain a hostname list Here is my dilemma... I have a text file with all the pc's i need to get the default username using the registry. The key is HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and the reg value to read is DefaultUserName. I need to output the results in a file like: hostname,username The hostname would be gathered from the text file, so I dont need to query for it. Any ideas how?     - Problems with date(), datevalue(), formatdatetime() in VBScript 5.6 Hi, I wrote a few scripts some time ago and now I just wanted to make them better. While I've been testing the scripts, something weired was going on since the scripts didn't work as expected anymore. Now I found out, that it is my machine that is stupid (the scripts are working on every other machine!!!).     - Object browser and registry Where can I locate documentation about Object Browser and the way to use it? I used Object Browser inside Word to look at objects. I addes the Scripting library to the list of available lists. I noticed that I can look at several classes. However, class FileSystemObject have a corresponding entry in the registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, (Scripting.FileSystemObject) while I don't see an entry in the registry for the Files class: is it registyered with a different name? How can I locate the entry in the Registry associated with a specific class? Second question: looking in the Registry I don't see anything in the Scripting.FileSystemObject and in the Scripting.FileSystemObject .CLSID keys: is it correct? The problem is that the file naming convention of the file I'm retrieving is date stamped with the date and time the file was created. The problem is I cannot use a networking object to retrieve it because some of the pcs have their network card disabled. I work in retail as a pos support guy, and we get info from the stores pcs through dialup.
