    - Logon Scripts for Dept. and Printers based on Groups and IP I have a script that was put together by a several different scripts and some reading I have done on scripting. Anyhow, I=92ve attached a script located below that will map department shares based on the users active directory group membership and connected printer(s) based on their IP address. The script works well until the IP address part. If anyone can help, that would be great. Feel free to modify it in any way that would make the script better! Thanks=85.     - VBScript Regexp Customer Account I have been struggling to find a way to do a regexp.replace in multiple files, if anyone can help? My company downloads a series of files daily. Each file is a single customer transsaction and contains a customer account number that is in the format of the letters "A14*CA" followed by a sixteen digit number on its own line. The customer account number needs to be adited so that the backoffice software that imports the files can read it, but the backoffice software only accepts a ten digit customer account number. So, I need to replace the sixteen digit number with a ten digit number, but the digits my company wants are characters 4-10 following the begining letters above. For example, the customer account line may read "A14*CA4290423634535002" and needs to be replaced with "A14*CA0423634535" and the file needs to be saved.     - Excel (2007) Conditional Format via VBScript I had a macro in Excel with the a command to Add conditional formatting based on the check if a cells value begins with some predefined text. Selection.FormatConditions.Add _ Type:=xlTextString, String:="apple", TextOperator:=xlBeginsWith Now i will change from having an Excel file with a macro in it, to a VBScript with is creating the Excel file from scratch. As subject really, I'm after the most efficient way of finding out as part of a users login script if they are a member of the Administrators or Power Users group on the machine they are logging in on? I expect the simplest way to report would be to output to a file called something like "Username is GroupName on MachineName.txt" Appreciate any tips on the leanest way of achieving this.     - multi thread scripting I want to read the registry different services check and more of 25000 computers. But this script is very slow. It runs 3 days long pffffff!     - Install Patches through vbscript I want to install the patches in folder "PatchRepository" through a vbscript. I would also like to get the error message of any patch which couldn't not be installed for any reason [ Not applicable or Base patch not installed or Incompatible Os Version etc.] If the exit code of the script is zero [assuming there are no errors in installation.] the same should be dumped onto a file. Then after a few minutes an exception was thrown from WScript: Out of Memory. After I closed the msg window which was modal the memory consumption wound down slowly and the process was eventually shut down after about a minutes or so. My question is: why? I've burned DVDs before with Windows Media Player with no problem. I've burned some picture images on this machine and attempted to burn iso images but they all came out sort of hollow, although the eventual file size was close to what I expected the data did not seem to be there and I could not use the DVD to install the software. So, I've decided to use a script since I felt that it would give me a better handle on the process. Is it a known issue? Is it possible to improve the script? Are there other scripts out there that can do the same? Nore: the iso image I tried to burn is a MSSqlServer eveloper Edition. I am an MSDN Pro subscriber.     - Why Can't You Set the PageFile on Server 2008 using VBScript and W Ok, so this is a bit of a wierd one. During our automated build of Windows Server 2008, one of the options we would like to set is the size of the Page File. Because we have servers with lots of RAM and often not large system drives we like to set them manually, this also helps avoid page file fragmentation. In Server 2008, before you can set the page file manually, you need to disable the automatic management of the page file using the win32_ComputerSystem.AutomaticManagedPagefile property. When I set this property to false using either a PowerShell window or WMIC from the command-line it works nicely. However, when I try to set this property using VBScript it fails to save the property.     - DNS and WINS update I am writing a script to update WINS and DNS entries on all servers in a file. I also want to output to an Excel file the success or failure. If a server is not pingable i want to output that to the spreadsheet and move on to the next server in the text file. This script works when i don't test to see if the server is pingable first. It will hang though if a server is not online.     - Changing Computer and AD Description to logged in user? As subject really. Let's assume I have various OU's full of workstations, and at present all the Active Directory description fields are empty. Can anyone help me out with how I could update both the Active Directory Computer Description and the computer description in the properties of "My Computer" to something like "Joe Bloggs, Department X" where the username and department are those of the user who has logged on (assuming the users department is populated on his AD account). I could probably cobble something together using string manipulations, but I thought regex might be a more elegant solution, but I dont have much experience with reg ex and I need to do this ASAP.     - rename computer I have looked at 2 options, netdom and wmi rename but what is the best way to rename a computer and account from a script ? Also looked at rename and then adding computer to a doamin which depends on the circumstance may not be appropriate. I need to connect to a global catolgue while doing this so changes are seen immediately. The rename occurs most time from the workstation that is already a member of the domain. Administrator rights may need to be provided. I've been having issues with passing the variable computername into the wmi rename option.
