    - RSA/Key Pairs/CAPICOM Hello, In the past we have done all our encryption using MD5 hash, however I am now working with a new client that wants to exchange RSA keys. They are using pure Java on their side, and we are using scripts (vbs and javascript within asp pages) on our side (we are limited to this and cannot use .NET or JAVA at this time). They would like to send us a URL with some encrypted data (i.e. &token=xxxxx). They are asking me to generate a RSA key pair, send them my public key and then use my private key to decrypt the data they send via the URL. Based on the research I've done so far (admittedly I am somewhat confused), it looks like I need to generate the key pair using IIS (MMC snap-in with v5). Then I need to use CAPICOM to decrypt the data they send. I have tried using CAPICOM within my asp page and was able to load up a certificate they sent (one test) and was also able to encrypt and decrypt using the following example I found on the Internet: <% Const CAPICOM_ENCRYPTION_ALGORITHM_RC4 = 1 ' Use RSA RC4 encryption.     - WSH ver. 5.6.0.8515 problem? Hi, I have noticed that a lot people is reporting problems with Windows scripting host version 5.6.0.8515. Well, I have also problem. Although I have registered WSH on my w2k3 server I'm recieving error on my ASP page on line: Set regEx = Server.CreateObject("VBScript.RegExp") error is well know: Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 8002801d' Server.CreateObject Failed I have found post people suggesting to register old DISPEX.DLL ver. 5.6.0.6626 from IE6 SP1 but I would like to know if somebody have done that and is this solution on our problems with new WSH?     - ExecNotificationQuery -- how to distinguish among events How can I use ExecNotificationQuery to get Win32_ProcessStartTrace and Win32_ProcessStopTrace events and distinguish them from each other? The following script gives me two events per user application, and these are likely the StartTrace and StopTrace events that are subclasses of the Trace event asked for by the script. If this is so, how can I tell them apart as the arrive?     - Class doesn't support Automation (Apologies in advance - couldnt find a specific WMI newsgroup...) Am running scriptomatic on my Win 2003 DC, running TS server. Tried running one of the builtin scripts to query W32_ComputerSystem. Get Windows Script Host error: Error: Class doesn't support Automation Code: 800A01AE Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error (This is when run from an Administrator account.) What could be causing this? Am thinking that this might be an access rights issues as: 1] Also get errors 1065 in Event Viewer "Windows cannot perform filter check for Group Policy Object" for group policy objects that have an attached WMI Filter. When users are given administrator access then this problem goes away. 2] Also get error 1097 "Windows cannot find the machine account, the Local Security Authority cannot be contacted" at server startup.     - Can't run script from MS Script Editor I've just started using Microsoft Script Editor and have fallen at the first hurdle. I have a simple VBS file that opens an application and works fine when I double-click it in Windows Explorer. However, when I open it in the Script Editor and try to run it (using start, step into, run to cursor, etc), the title bar shows [run] briefly then returns to [design] and nothing appears to nothing (the requested application does not open). If I set a breakpoint the code does not stop at the selected line. I've tried searching the internet and found one or two posts that suggest others have had a similar problem, but I've not seen a solution. One post indicated that the problem occurred after the Script Editor had been working for a few months. Could it be that a virus has caused it? I did get infected a while back by something that caused pop ups to keep appearing in Internet Explorer but thought I had got rid of it and all its effects.     - authenticate to domain Hi. I have the problem that my domain admin password changes randomly. There is nothing to see in the logs. (logging raised allready)... there is an other thread for this. What would be very helpfull would be a script that checks if the authentication to the domain with a certain account and password works and pipes the result into a text file.     - Make a printer the default on remote computer ?? I have multiple computers that have the "Generic / Text Only" printer installed, along with other printers. Is there a way/VB Script to change make the Generic... the default printer (Set as Default Printer)on these remote printers??     - Authorization levels and login scripts Note: cross-posted to microsoft.public.scripting.vbscript and microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin Hi guys, I'm in need of some information about how the security and impersonation of scripts works. I'm trying to create a login vbscript that will enumerate certain types of files on the HD. The problem is that we want it to run more often than when the computer is rebooted, so it can't be a startup script. As a login script, the user logging in doesn't have priveleges to see all the directories on the machine (notably the documents & settings folders for other users), but we want to enumerate the contents of those folders. What would you suggest? Is there a way to use the machine account instead of the user account when it's a login script? (from what I've read, it seems not) From the reading I've done, it seems the only way really to do it is to provide other credentials and run the script as another user. I'd prefer not to use this option as storing the credentials of another user with elevated priveleges in the script would be a security risk.     - sleep, wait, or pause in HTML page The following HTML page will open an IE window, load a search page, wait for it to finish loading, and then use SendKeys to perform a query at that location (based on a passed search string). It works. However, I'm wondering if there is a better way to do the pause (Sub sSleep) while waiting for IE to finish loading the page (this version uses PING to insert a delay). Without it, IE complains that "A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly ..."; and, WScript's Sleep method does not seem to be available to IE.     - formatting dates hi, I'd like to format a date using vbscript to this format: 1995-01-03 00:00:00 Unfortunately, if I use month(date), then it returns me a single digit number for January through September. Same goes for the day(date) function. Is there an easy way to retrieve this date format? I know .net cdate can do this.. cdate(strdate).tostring("s") to get that format.     - Open an application using script I'm using Win XP Home and have Microsoft Office Professional installed. I'm a complete novice as far as VB Script is concerned and would be grateful if someone could tell me whether you can use it to open an Access database (in MS Access)?. I tried setting up an object variable using CreateObject and then called the OpenCurrentDatabase method but this didn't work. Does the object variable go out of scope when the script finishes thus closing Access even if it was opened momentarily? I don't want to have to write a VB program to do the job because I want something simple that doesn't require installation. The reason that I want a user to run code rather than simply open the Access database is because I want to check that the latest version of the application resides on the user's machine and if not replace it with the latest version copied from the server.     - Future version(s) of VBS and strong typing Hello everyone, I've been using VB, VBA and VBS both as a Windows scripting tool and in a few ASP pages as well for a long time now. I've learned to deal with having only the variant data type, but that doesn't mean I don't despise it still. Now I am curious whether future version(s) will support typing or not. I already know about .NET and ASP.NET, where typing is allowed, but I'm talking about VBS as we know and use it now. Does anyone know of plans to "upgrade" the scripting language and support strong typing at any time? For that matter, does anyone know WHY it was not included in the first place? I mean, would it have been THAT hard to implement from the beginning?     - Passing link text as session variable Hi, Is there a way to pass link text as a session variable to the linked page? Here's what I'm trying to do : The page has a list of groups. Each group name appears in a <A HREF> </A> tag. The page has a binding to the group(s) and has the displayName & distinguishedName of the group. When a user clicks on the group name - which appears between the <A> </A> tags and is a variable - the sAMAccountName or displayName of the group, the corresponding distinguishedName should be passed to the next page as a session variable.     - How to sign a VBScript in a web page? Maybe I am in the wrong place and doing this the wrong way... please tell me if you think there is a better way. I need to transfer some files from a server to the client workstation. The transfer has to be initiated from a page served up by the web server. This is easy enough to do with VBScript and the FSO but I have to loosen up the browser security and my (military) employer will not allow that. So, is there some way I can take this script and sign it and the user can run it once the certificate is accepted? I am not resigned to using VBScript, it just seemed to be the easiest way and works well. If it makes more sense to make an exe with something like cpp and sign it, that's OK too. Surely there are some tutorials on the web on how to do this, but I can't find any, which makes me fear that it can't be done. I could use an HTA if there is a way to initiate the HTA from the web page and to pass it a parameter (the folder with the files - it will vary with each transfer). FWIW, I can create a page with links to all the files and by clicking on them cause the 'save as' dialog to come up and let the user save them. Problem is, sometimes there will be lots of files and I don't want the user to have to click and save each one individually. Any help will be greatly appreciated...     - Unable to remove remembered drives I've setup a VBScript that looks for an unused drive letter and maps it to another server to allow me to transfer some files. The script is completely finished and works perfectly if I double click on the .VBS file myself and run it. However when I started the file from the scheduler (using the same account and password that I used to logon to the server) its all goes pear shaped. When I started the script from the scheduler by right clicking the task and selecting Run it hung. So I right clicked again and terminated it. I then tried it again a few more times with a few adjustments to the script. It turned out that it couldn't map the drive for some reason and was hanging. The error message was: "An attempt was made to remember a device that had previously been remembered" It seems that while I was debugging my script I was somehow mapping each free drive that was found (although you cant see the mapping in My Computer). And it now appears I cant remove these remembered drives, or map them again... But only when the script is run from Task Scheduler. I've written a function to see whats mapped (see viewMappings below), and this is what it showed: d: = True as Data e: = True as mapped_by_script f: = True as mapped_by_script g: = True as mapped_by_script h: = True as mapped_by_script i: = True as iApps j: = True as mapped_by_script k: = True as mapped_by_script l: = True as Logs m: = False n: = False o: = True as BACKUP p: = False q: = False r: = False s: = False t: = False u: = False v: = False w: = False x: = False y: = False z: = True All the drive marked as 'mapped_by_script' above have been mapped by the script when it ran from Task Scheduler. Looking on the net I've found some code that should remove these drives, ie: WshNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "E:", False,True However if I try this with E: I get this error- This network connection does not exist. But this cant be True because if I try and map E: I get this error- The local device name is already in use. What on earth is going on here? If I run the script manually again (not from scheduler), it runs perfectly again. And will even map drive E: if I tell it too. Can anyone help? I've been looking at this all day and I just cannot find a solution, and I dont know what to try next! Hi all.

I was just wondering if anyone knows how to use WMI scripting to set the
primary DNS suffix. So far my script can change the DNS Servers, WINS
Servers and DNS Search Order.

Any help would be much appreciated.
