    - Client script: Adding Computer Accts to OU from the client. I recently worked on an XP migration project where they used a script that enabled an administrator to place a computer account into an OU from the client side. This is obviously very valuable to administrators because it eliminates the backend hassle of deployments. After the usual Sysprep startup process completed, a screen would list all of the OUs for the company. The tech would select the appropriate OU and then the computer account would be added to that OU. I am looking for a script or application that would provide this feature. The company would not comment on how they accomplished the task. Assumingly, this script would be executed as a â??Runonceâ?? component of Sysprep and reside on a share rather then the image.     - Where to find a COMPLETE VBScript reference? I was looking for the SHELLEXECUTE command and it is not mentioned in any of the books I have. I have MS' "Windows 2000 Scripting Guide", O'Reilly's "VB.NET Language" Pocket reference book and other books, one which is called "The ULTIMATE VB.Net" (the emphasis on "ultimate" is mine...). None is mentioning that command. So who knows what else I am missing. For example : under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MyCompany\MySW there is a Keys named VER_A and VER_B. VER_B has a string named "Description" The value of "Description" is "Better". I want to go over all Keys in Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MyCompany\MySW, in each key I want to Look for a string named "description" and then if I found such a string see if it contains a substring named "better" (I do not care for capital letters). At the end of the process I need to get the key name (folder name). In this example my aim is to get the string "VER_B".     - Help with vbs and html I have written a script to generate an HTML page, then useing a div object generate ping response to the html file. I have two problems, the first is that I cant figure out how to stop the command windows from popping up (which my fixes should have stopped), and second that the I cant figure out how to make the OK button on the generated HTML to kill the loop of the vbscript. This sample relies on TaskScheduler.dll (a download from microsoft). The download says its compatable with win2000 only. Basically, I'm going to parse a log file that will contain a nodename, but the naming convention for the server varies...ie: CLIN - DATACOM1 FOCUS - TESTSVR1 FCGSVR2 As you can see, some of the nodes are delimitted by a "-" and some are not... The purpose of parsing this string will be to extract the client name from the server. I'm needing to parse the client name from the server and see if it matches in an array and have it output to a specific queue. As an example, FCGSVR2 ** FCG would be the client in this instance CLIN - DATACOM1 ** CLIN would be the client here Is this possible at all? It is embedded in an ASP page, which now returns "The page cannot be displayed" when it hits the WshShell.Run line.     - Calling a file for VBscript in a bat file I'm not sure if there is a better way to do this, but the people I need to hand this off to eventually are not that technical and the batch file will make it easy for them. I could probably do four code sections in theh vbscript as well... I get an excel file from the HR system for new users and before we create them we search for duplicate IDs, account names etc. I have 4 individual vb scripts that perform the individual searches, but you have to specify the file name when you run them. I would like to call each in succession from a batch file but pass the file name only once so each line in the batch file will use the same file.     - Problem passing dictionary as argument OK, wrote a DTS package that has multiple ActiveX steps. In an early step I create and populate a dictionary object, create a new global variable on the fly and set its value to the dict, and then fetch the value from the global in later steps and use the values. It all worked fine until ... That is, it worked fine when the package was run directly under my login. When I set it to run as a job under our local sql.admin account, it failed. Huh? If I log into the system as sql.admin and run the package locally, still OK. Only when run as a job and under sql.admin does it fail (I have not tried running it as a job under another login, that isn't really an option). When I do a "set dict = DTSGlobalVariables("mydict").value", it gets *something*, if passes a "is nothing" test, but I get an error as soon as I try to reference so much as the count. Well, right now I'm busy rewriting the code around this glitch, but of course I'd rather understand it and fix it. Any help?     - Can you end a process from vb script? We use a scheduler (Control-M) to runs some VB scripts to automate some tasks in a 3rd-pary application QRM. There is a bug in QRM that when you run it via scripts, it doesn't end the process, so after the script completes, you still see qrm.exe in the process in task manager. We are currently running this on a Windows 2000 server, and it's not a problem, because Control-M reuses the same process every time, so there is always just the one process hanging around. We are moving to a Windows 2003 server, and in testing we've found that Control-M is creating a new process every time. So we end up with 20 qrm.exe process and we have to manually delete them. In evaluating our options, it looks like the easiest thing to do is to write a simple script or app that will kill the processes, and automate that to run every day.     - Allow user to run application as a power user Hello, I have an application that I am distributing with SMS. The problem that I am having is that the application, now on the target machine, requires power user or admin privledges to run. I can run the application via sms in the system context, but that will not help, since the app configures the user's environment. So unless someone knows of an easier solution, I need to run a script, in the system context that makes the current logged on user a member of the local power users group, if they are not already a member of that group or the admins group and then run the application under the user's context. Finally, after the application is complete, the script, under the system context again, would then revert the user back to his former permission level, i.e., return user to former group memberships. I don't think that this can be done with one script, because of the context issues. But, since I am using SMS, I can use three different scripts and chain them together. 1. Promote the current logged in user to a member of the local power users group, if needed. 2. Run the application under the user's context. 3. Demote the current logged in user back to his original group memberships. Since we don't normally allow membership in the power users group, I guess it would be ok to specifically remove the user from the power users, but if, in the future, we did allow permanent power users, this approach could cause problems. Another concern is security. I realize that during the period between the first and third scripts that the user could exploit the elevated privledges. Worse yet, they could kill the process before the third script can run, which would leave them in the elevated state. Unfortunately, I am really just learning to script, so the details are currently beyond me. I am not sure if these scripts should be in VB or not. I'm trying to figure a way to have a script send the first jpg in a
directory by e-mail to a recipient and the jpeg as a separate e-mail.

Or to put it another way; if there are five jpgs in a directory to have a
script send each of them as a separate email to the same recipient.
