    - burning DVD failure Hi there, I just attempted to burn a DVD on my DELL GX-280 with 2Gb of RAM, 3.8Ghz CPU. Then after a few minutes an exception was thrown from WScript: Out of Memory. After I closed the msg window which was modal the memory consumption wound down slowly and the process was eventually shut down after about a minutes or so. My question is: why? I've burned DVDs before with Windows Media Player with no problem. I've burned some picture images on this machine and attempted to burn iso images but they all came out sort of hollow, although the eventual file size was close to what I expected the data did not seem to be there and I could not use the DVD to install the software. So, I've decided to use a script since I felt that it would give me a better handle on the process. Is it a known issue? Is it possible to improve the script? Are there other scripts out there that can do the same? Nore: the iso image I tried to burn is a MSSqlServer eveloper Edition. I am an MSDN Pro subscriber. Some patch or other software was loaded and now when the script gets to the add attachment statement, it hangs and uses 50% of the processor. I have tried uninstalling all the patches I can find that have been loaded in the last month, but it still hangs. There is no error and nothing in the event logs? Has anyone else seen this problem? I have a page which lists a bunch of project numbers each with an href link to an Excel file whose name is project number.xls on the server. I want to check if the file exists, if it does enable the link else disable the link.     - CDO send: Lost Connection Hi, I'm using the following to send email. It works fine if I attach a text file. However, if I attach a zip file, as shown, I get the following error on the send: "The transport lost its connection to the server." If I send the same attachment via the same server using Outlook, all is well. It only fails when sent using this script. The issue is not related to file size, it works with huge text files, but fails on tiny zip files. Suggestions gratefully received!     - Why Can't You Set the PageFile on Server 2008 using VBScript and W Ok, so this is a bit of a wierd one. During our automated build of Windows Server 2008, one of the options we would like to set is the size of the Page File. Because we have servers with lots of RAM and often not large system drives we like to set them manually, this also helps avoid page file fragmentation. In Server 2008, before you can set the page file manually, you need to disable the automatic management of the page file using the win32_ComputerSystem.AutomaticManagedPagefile property. When I set this property to false using either a PowerShell window or WMIC from the command-line it works nicely. However, when I try to set this property using VBScript it fails to save the property. I've ruled out (I think) any kind of permissions issues by including the .Rename method in the script which successfully renamed the machine so I know the interface works.     - Writing a Boolean Statement Parser/Engine - Need help I need to write a boolean search string parser/engine for a scripting project. In a perfect world: - A user could enter a properly formatted boolean search string that I could pass to the parser. For example, they could enter "((wallace OR walters) AND (fire AND truck)) ANDNOT (water OR wet OR foam)". - When I passed it to the parser, the parser would return some type of collection (array, collection, etc.). - I would iterate through the collection checking each term to see if it was in the search string and return a similar collection w/ a series of True/False values. - The engine would look at the values I returned against the initial search boolean, and return a collective True or False.     - DNS and WINS update I am writing a script to update WINS and DNS entries on all servers in a file. I also want to output to an Excel file the success or failure. If a server is not pingable i want to output that to the spreadsheet and move on to the next server in the text file. This script works when i don't test to see if the server is pingable first. It will hang though if a server is not online.     - rename computer I have looked at 2 options, netdom and wmi rename but what is the best way to rename a computer and account from a script ? Also looked at rename and then adding computer to a doamin which depends on the circumstance may not be appropriate. I need to connect to a global catolgue while doing this so changes are seen immediately. The rename occurs most time from the workstation that is already a member of the domain. Administrator rights may need to be provided. I've been having issues with passing the variable computername into the wmi rename option. I have a folder (strFolderName) and its subdirectories that I want all the files checked (the criteria is in the next paragraph). Certain directories (including the root) need to be excluded. This part I have working. All the file names are written to a .txt file (strOutputFile). The part I need help with is parsing the file name which should contain a date such as YYYYMMDD. The file name should be in a *,*YYYYMMDD.doc format (or could be a .dot). If the file a .dot, it needs to rename it to a .doc also. The current date needs to be checked to see if the file is older than two business days (don't need to worry about holidays).     - Detect/Set printer online state I've been working on this for a while. I have a KONICA MINOLTA PagePro 1400W printer that needs trained to be user friendly. When toner is running low (or I print 50 or more consecutive pages) the pages come out with blank patches. Pulling the cartridge and giving it a shake usually clears it up. The problem is, the cartridge has a chip on it and just taking it out of the printer makes it think it was refilled. This sets a flag in the printer driver which is designed to annoy the user to purchase an OEM replacement cartridge. I call it booby trapping. Anyway, what happens is, this flag causes the print driver to set itself to an offline state every time the computer (Windows 98) boots. No problem, I can set it to online manually, but it is annoying. It also displays a nag screen to replace the cartridge every time I print something. I have been looking for a patched driver that ignores the cartridge chip (the ideal solution). Having found nothing like that available (replacement chips are a non solution), I decided to write a script to handle it for me. I managed to eliminate the nag screen with an AppActivate/SendKey script running in a continuous loop on a 5 second delay between loops. But I can not seem to find code that shows me how to detect if the printer status is offline, or how to change it to online.
