 - WMI DNS Query returns Nothing I'm having a lot of trouble with a script that populates a collection with DNS records via a WMI Query. Our site has 65000+ A type records so dumping the lot into a collection takes some time so I use a LIKE statement, see code below. The problem is that my query returns nothing. The problem only occurs if I use a LIKE statement within the MicrostfDNS namespace. The same query using a different namespace, like Win32_Directory, works fine. Can anyone have a go at this for me? It's driving me insane. I'm running this query on an XP [5.1.2600] box and the DNS server is Windows 2003 Ent. PLEASE help. Thanks heaps.  - Vista Special Folders When I attempt to backup folders in Vista, I get the "permission denied" error below when I try to access a user's special folders like "Desktop" and "Start Menu". I can successfully backup the folder "c:\users\myUser1\documents" for "My Documents", but "Desktop" and "Start Menu" return the error. I even tried creating a shortcut to %windir%\System32\wscript.exe and the script name, then modifying the shortcut properties to "Run As Administrator", but my script quits when it gets to the special folders mentioned above. Is there a way to run a .vbs script file and allow it to properly read these special folders and copy them?  - How can I enumerate services and list the account context under which Hi all. I'm in the process of trying to head up an initiative to become PCI compliant. We have a hodge podge of servers running, many of them legacy and being fairly new to the corporation, I have no idea what services are running on these servers and what accounts those services run under. I'm looking for help on a script to not only enumerate what services are running (have a script for that) but what I'd really like is a script that will also tell me what account each service is running under.  - Classes and Arrays - Novice question I'm a novice programmer who is new to the concept of Classes in VBScript, and I'm hitting a dead-end trying to implement a function in my application. Below is a very detailed description (bear with me!) of my app and the issues I'm running into. My app collects player data from a computer game server (COD4 Modern Warfare is the game), stores the raw data in a mySQL database, and then calculates and presents player stats via .asp pages using VBScript. So first I came up with a data structure to store the stats as I do all my calculations. For each player, I calculate about 30 different stats, e.g. total number of deaths, total number of kills, kill ratio (kills/deaths), time played, kills/hr, number of kills using a pistol, number of kills using a rifle, etc. The tricky part is that for each statistic, I also need to calculate and store the "rank" of that player for that statistic (e.g. player1 ranks # 2 in the number of kills, #3 in kill ratio, etc.). I want to call this function for every stat I am storing in the player object, so after I calculate a particular stat (like killcount) for all the players, I can call the function to rank that stat for all players, then move on to the next stat. Here's the problem - I can't figure out how to pass the data to the function call and specify which stat I am trying to rank. Conceptually I want to call the function for a particular stat object in the Players object - Rankstat(Players.KillCountStat). But of course this syntax doesn't work - since Players is an array of objects, I can only reference specific elements in the array like Players(1).KillCountStat. And if I pass the entire Players array into the function, I cannot think of a way to specify which stats object that I want to rank; because every stats object within the Player object is uniquely named (killCountStat, killRatioStat, etc.), I can't figure out how to "generically" refer to them inside the function so that I can have a single function that can rank any stat. I hope this makes sense. I'm really stuck here. Maybe my data structure is poorly suited to the task? One solution I thought of was: rather than make the Players object an array, make each stat object an array within the Players object (e.g. Players.PlayerID(1) = 12345; Players.killCountStat (1) = 99). Then for example I could pass the whole killCountStat array into the RankStat function. But I can't figure out how to declare an array of class objects within another class object! Referring to my code snippet above where I define my classes, where/how would I specify that the killCountStat and killRatioStat objects are an *array* of New StatisticClass? It seems each element of the array would have to be individually set as a New StatisticClass, but I don't understand how to to do that within a class definition; it seems like it would have to be done as each element is added to the array? For instance, I am reading a URL to a specific file, and I am changing it into a corresponding folder path.  - Running a VBS in Telnet session In a rather complex environment (complex network and security) I have to run VBS script from within a Telnet session The only allowed access is plain windows based telnet. (sadly mstsc is not allowed) I have problems getting some script running.  - how to determine if program has crashed/hung? I tried to write a script that can determine if a program/process has crashed/hangs so I can restart it. The problem is that when the program crashes, the program/processes are still running in the task manager. So the script cant tell if the program has crashed or not. Is there an alternative way to tell if the program has crashed? Something like a ping command, but for programs so that I can see if the program is responding? i need help!!  - Disable a vhd disk using WMI People, I've got a vhd file which I mount using vhdmount /p on Windows XP running on my laptop. The problem is that this is incompatible with hibernation which I use a lot when travelling. Unfortunately whilst the disk device is added as a plug in it doesn't appear in the Safely Remove Hardware dialog which I can easily access from the icon in the system tray. I need to find my way to the device manager first to disable the disk then I can use vhdmount to 'unplug' the device. Only then can I hibernate. I'd like to script this process since I will do it quite frequently. So far my investigations into using WMI has drawn a blank, it seems that Win32_DiskDrive doesn't support a .Disable() method. Any one know how I can do this with WMI or _any_ other approach such as WinAPI, .NET or a different COM library, I don't realy mind how its done.  - renaming registry keys i'd like to create a function that'll let me rename a registry key, but am having some difficulty. based on what i've read, it sounds like i basically need to copy the registry key and then delete the original one. the problem is... how do i get an exact copy? in order to do this, you'd need to know the type and i'm not sure how to figure that out. i was looking at the functions provided by StdRegProv (http:// msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa393664%28VS.85%29.aspx) and although they'll let you get certain types, they don't let you, as far as i can tell, get the required type. RegRead, from WScript.Shell (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ 2x3w20xf%28VS.85%29.aspx), appears to return a variable with the appropriate type, but how do you determine what this type is? it looks like you don't need it, persay, in RegWrite, but what if you want to copy a BINARY value? at that point, it'd be nice if you could call SetBinaryValue from StdRegProv instead of RegWrite. unfortunately, i'm not sure how to do that. RegGetValue (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms724868(VS. 85).aspx) looks potentially useful, as one of it's parameters contains the type and the other the value, but i'm not sure how to use that in VBscript?  - Opening an Access Database on IIS Hi! I am a total noob at writing vbscript on IIS, so am looking for any help you can provide. I have IIS running on my own system (to learn) and have an access database published to a virtual directory. I have no problem accessing "static" asp type pages accessing http://localhost/mywebsite/test.asp (for example). However, now I want to be able to open an access database.  - Trying to copy file to Vista CD 'burn' area I have a number of scripts that were developed on XP that create a file (during a lengthy process) and then copy that file to the CD Burn area. All works well under XP. When I made the necessary path changes for Vista, the program fails when I attempt to copy the file to the Vista burn area. I get a "Permission denied" error in the vbs file. I have looked at this folder and I appear to have all the necessary permissions to write to that file. After all, it IS in my profile. Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone found a way around this? I'd like to ask, if there are accessible extended attributes from Explorer's
detail view (Author, Company, Dimensions - picture files ...) via script and
if - how. I found some implemented interfaces which maybe, could solve this,
but I'm confused of it.
