The button on my laptop is situated so that I periodically touch it
accidentally and open the drive bay. If I am in the middle of watching a
video, it is annoying. If I am installing software it can be disasterous. Is
there any command I can run from a script that will disable the button,
effectively locking the drive shut? Obviously I would also like to be able
to unlock it.

I personally have no idea, but I'd be interested to see if it's possible. Why
not put ur query to the 'The Hey, Scripting Guy! Archive' @

I'm just wondering what kind of laptop has the CD eject button located
somewhere where it can be "accidently" touched.

It's a Toshiba and it is located on the right side exactly where you put one
hand when you want to move it. IBM Thinkpads are the same.
