    - Search Domain I would like to search a network domain for workstations then check each work station found for the installation of a particular program and if found ad a short cut to the all users startup.     - WMI query to get disk I/O and process creating files Is there a class in WMI to monitor when disk activity happens and then what process is creating the I/O to the disk? We have a server that when a file is created it is causing the drives to spin at full capacity and we cannot stop it without rebooting. We think we know what it is, but cannot be sure.     - Removing Temp Files I regularly have to remove spyware/adware from different client PCs. Some of these PCs have multiple users. The first thing I do is boot into safe mode and remove all temp files, temp internet files, and cookies out of each users profile and delete the temp files out of the windows\temp folder. I was looking for a way to automate this process. Disk Cleanup does not remove all instances of these file. Does anyone know of a script or batch file that will clear out all file in the directories mentioned above? I also install 3 programs with regularity; SpyBot, Ad-Aware, and Spyware Blaster. If I could utilize a script or batch file to install all three at the same time that would be great. I understand that this may sound lazy. However, I do this with such regularity, with different clients at different locations. I am just looking for something to help automate the process. Thank you all in advance for your advice.     - Registry Changes I have been tasked to write a script to manually update several local security policy entries in a large list of computers but without the use of group policy! All reserach I have done indicates the Administrative Templates section is registry addressable and is easy enough to script updates to, but not the Security Settings or Windows Settings sections, as they write to the Registry's protected area in HKLM\Security.     - OnKeyDown Event - Unicode Ok, the OnKeyDown event handler allows me to cancel a key down event if the pressed key is not allowed. I understand that the value in window.event.keyCode is the Unicode value of the key pressed and not the keyCode of the character? So...if I want to write client-side (SIMPLE!!) script to not allow specified values, but allow other values (such as a formatted phone number) and auto-format the number entered (such as automatically enter the dashes and parens) ... how would YOU go about doing it? I've done it several times...but right now, I'm checking just about every value possibly that can be entered....isn't there a better way? (I have to make sure the user can delete, insert, et cetera...and paste too...but all data has to be validated and formatted prior to accepting the keystroke...)     - How to import a arbitrary CSV file into SQL Server or Oracle from command line I have a CSV file with the first row in the CSV file to be the column headers. I am aware of tools like Bulk Insert in SQL Server or sqlloader in Oracle to import these files into the database but I want something simple to run from a command line given the database, table name, server name,etc can import this file by a make table into a Oracle or SQL Server table. Also, if possible I want to set a command line option to insert into the target table if existing rather than creating it. Can somebody please share a ADO VBscript that given the DSN can import a CSV file with column headers into a SQL or Oracle database.     - Sending messages with a complex body format I need to create a message with a quite complex body format (in term of fonts, pictures, signatures, logos and so on) and sent it using Outlook Automation. We need to create a .vbs file that will accomplish the following: 1) Get the path to the Windows system directory (SYSTEMROOT). 2) Call the .NET installutil.exe utility from within the appropriate folderin SYSTEMROOT to register a service we wish to install. I have created my own COM interface, call it IMyInterface for this discussion, in which I do my own implementation of IDispatch and do not rely on ATL for this. I also use the vbscript as the engine for my own implementation if IActiveScriptSite. I was under the impression that when using late binding for vbscript that IDispatch::GetIdsOfNames is called only once for a particular function( Is this correct? ). Ex function svcentry Dim fso Set fso = CreateObject("MyLib.MyInterface.1") for i = 0 to 10 fso.Sleep(100) next end function I would have expected that my interface would only be asked for id of Sleep once. This is not the case. GetIdsOfNames is called for EACH iteration of the loop. Is this the way that Vbscript always behaves or do I need to specify something for the engine so that it will store the DISPIDs of the items that it uses somewhere? It seems taht the more objects that I have as members of my interface the slower it will run in vbscript: Ex fso.memA.memB.memC = 9 would have to make about 4 calls to getidsofnames just to execute this one line, and if this line is repeated over and over say in a loop the speed hit could be fairly bad. If anyone can enlighten me I'd appreciate it. Or if this is not the correct forum than can someone point me to that as well.     - Adding to Path environment variable I've been looking for a way to add a directory to Path for an installer. I need to set Path permanently, not just while the command prompt is open, so I can't use the set command. I figured I should write somewhere in the registry, so I searched the registry for a directory currently in the Path system variable, but I couldn't find it. I think I found where PATH data is stored for the owner, but I'd rather set the Path for all users. I could call the command line program PathTool ( http://www.digievo.co.uk/software.asp?category=1 ) from my script to add to Path, but PathTool is a 72K exe with features that I don't need. The VBScript at http://www.winguides.com/scripting/reference.php?id=138 seems more practical for my needs, but I need some help to customize it. I only have access to Windows XP. With a little help from a VBScript reference (since I don't know VBScript), I was able to customize the VBScript to add to Path on XP and other NT based systems. There is one form for each class. They all have the same name.     - Sub fails syntax check, but only within function I have a blob of code that I run as part of a custom action within a Windows Installer session. This code runs flawlessly every time it has run. I decided to get cute and use error-handling, so I wrapped the code in a function declaration. Now it bombs instantly with a syntax error. Background: My fax server creates pdf's and text files (containing info about the pdf's) bearing the same names, except for having different extensions (.pdf or .txt). I want to (A) identify new files (i.e., from within the last hour) in the source directory, and (B) copy those files to a target directory, and (C) assign new names to the new pdf files, based on info in the text files. This Posting is to elicit opinions about whether my plan for doing the above is the right way to go. I have not yet learned how to use two-dimensional arrays (which I presume would be a better way to go), so I'm planning to do the following: 1. Use a batch file and a cscript file (both shown at the bottom of this message) to write the directory to a text file (DirFileList.txt), showing on each line one filename and the date/time of the file. The date/time will be at the left margin of DirFileList.txt. 2. Use a loop to go down each line of DirFileList.txt to compare the date/time to Now. 3. If the comparison returns a number that is smaller than 4 hours, find the filename string to the right, and use that string to find the filename "root" for the related files to be copied (i.e., the filename except for the .txt or .pdf extension), e.g., Alpha.txt and Alpha.pdf. 4. Use the filename "root" to open the Alpha.txt file and harvest the info to use in generating the filename to assign to the new copies of Alpha.txt and Alpha.pdf 5. Make the new copies of Alpha.txt and Alpha.pdf 6. Continue the loop until done. I bet there's an easier way.     - Editing Group Policy Registry Entries with VB Script I am writing a VBScript that will all us to apply a "new computer" template to a computer just built, as well as audit these settings on the computer, as well as other computers on the network later. The idea is to set registry and group policy settings, for multiple Windows platforms, (2003/XP/2000/NT, etc). Anyway, looking the the following article, Microsoft cautions "to change the group policy registry values, use Group Policy. Do not edit the registry." The problem is, we have many machines that must run as stand alone, and we want to run the script on these machines too to set/audit their settings. So, my question is, other than the obvious dangers of directly modifying the registry, is there a specific reason why one should not modify group policy through direct registry modifications?
