    - Syntax Problem I have a previous page where I have to create the field names. Everything work sperfect except when I go to request the data on the next page.     - SQL constraint rule probelm Hi there, I'm having a hard time automatically editing some users to my SQL DB. I established it is because the surname of the people I am adding contains an " ' ", eg surname = O'Connel What I am sending SQL looks like: sQLUpdateString = "UPDATE Users SET " & updateString & _ " WHERE (UserName='" & userName & "')" conWrite.Execute(sQLUpdateString) My script generates updateString automatically and in the case where it updates the users full name; updateString = FullName='John O'Connel' In this case userName = "JohnO" This normally works fine, (I can update all the other users in my DB this way), however in cases like this where the surname includes the " ' " the full name in read in as being "John O" then an error because the "Connel" part still remains and is invalid SQL. I am told that I should probably use a rule or a constraint to fix this, however SQL is not really my strong suit, so any pointers on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated.     - Weird VBscrip Win2k explorer problems Hello All, Well my issue is my inventory script which I have made from other peoples scripts and modified for my own use is having some issues on our desktops. Little about our environment, Windows 2000, SP3 & SP4 with most patches applied. And worm patches etc. mostly our users aren't & can't be local administrators of there machines. Anyway I originally had a VBScript which did the inventory but I was having the following problems so I tried making a KIXTART Script which also made the exact same problems as described below. 1) Logged on as a normal user the PC's Internet Explorer 6 w/sp1 works first time then you close the app and open it again and it says "Detecting proxy settings" and just sits there forever and you have to reboot again for it to work. If you're lucky. 2) After the internet explorer starts playing up I can't get into control panel its like the whole "explorer" craps out. 3) The Computer generally becomes unstable, App's play up Outlook doesn't work media player etc. 4) If I load a patch on the machines which is MS04-011 Latest updates. (May/June) I think it is, and make the user a local administrator everything 's fine. If I load this patch and don't make the local user an administrator it still doesn't work properly ie: Media player doesn't load internet explorer and explorer still has issues. Making all our users local Admin's isn't an option for us. So I'm guessing it has to be something with the script which is causing the hassle. Or something I'm doing somewhere, So I had my kix script checked out and its fine apparently and the VB Script works perfect on a number of machines but then I hit a number of pc's which It doesn't work and causes the problems above. But once you disable to script at logon. The machine is perfect so it 's defiantly something strange when running these scripts but the scripts are fine.. All the scripts basically do is some WMI Queries and other Reg Queries nothing real hi-tech but it seems to make the machine unstable.. If any of you can think of anything that might be contributing to this issue please let me know! Btw: I'm using kixtart 2001 4.21 and I've tried updating to Windows Scripting host 5.1 I think the latest, Still the same problems.     - Newbie, How to pass data from one vbscript to another? I have a vbscript that I would like to call from another script and at the same time pass some data of various types from the "calling" script - is that possible? What I would like to achieve is exactly what a function does, only that instead of referring to the function's name, I would like to be able to refer to a script file and pass my variables to that I come from an Macintosh/AppleScript background and there one could use: "run script [path to script] with parameters [the parameters you like] " Is that possible in vbscript?     - converting IHTMLElement to IHTMLDOMNode I am doing DHTML programming and I need to convert IHTMLElement to IHTMLDOMNode so I can use the appendChild method of IHTMLDOMNode. How can I convert IHTMLElement to IHTMLDOMNode using Visual Basic? I think, in C++, there is a method called QueryInterface that can be used to do this conversion.     - hta script broken. I access an hta file that runs a script I need for work. This script ran fine for everyone who accessed it, including me. However, my computer recently crashed and our tech department provided me with a new hard drive complete with a Ghosted image. Since I got the new drive, I have been unable to run the hta file. No one else is experiencing this problem. I am running Win2k, but my office runs a mix of Win2K and NT4. I was also running Win2k prior to my hard drive crash. I installed Microsoft's 5.6 script engine (scripten.exe) obtained from their web site and I believe I have the most current version of mshta.exe. It's my understanding that mshta.exe is the program that is to untilzed to run this script. I have tried to run the script via IE to no avail. This includes me checking and unchecking various script related boxes in the Advanced section of IE's options. Here is the error I receive: **************************************** Msg Box: Internet Explorer Script Error Message: An error has occurred in the script on this page.     - writing stdout to a log file... Hi All- Got a script that is calling a batch secure ftp process (Putty's psftp) and want to capture the output straight to a log file and not to the screen. Any assistance on how I would do this would be greatly appreciated. The old DOS redirect also doesn't work because the ftp process runs in a different shell... Using WSH 5.6. I know I can not use shell.run to capture stdout stream and have been playing with the shell.exec to see if I could make it work to no avail. The process creates a new text file for writing and executes the psftp process but I don't know how to get its output over to the text file...     - ODBC query in PWS -vs- IIS 5.1 I've developed an ASP application running in Personal Web Server in Win98. All my ODBC queries on that server runs smoothly but when I decided to use IIS 5.1 in WinXP, queries that update my Access Database did not work and give an error "must use an updateable query".     - LDAP connection question... I have a number of wireless machines that reside as stand-alone devices (i.e. not part of the domain). After they are started, the user logs into the machine locally, then gains wireless access. I then want to run a script to map drives and printers based on the group membership of a domain username and password they provide. This is a sort of post-facto login script. I can't figure out how to query the LDAP from the outside of the domain to determine group memberships however. Any suggestions? It grabs all the new software installations. I want to narrow this down to Office XP.     - Commas in the CN name I am using scripts to create user logins in AD with Windows 2003 domain controllers. When I try to create a user with the CN name being something like "Blow, Joe" my script chokes. I can create a login with a CN name of "Blow Joe", with a space, but not a comma. I get the rror message "Active Directory: An invalid Active Directory pathname was passed." Same problem when I try to read a specific CN that has a comma in it with a script. The script chokes. However, if you create a login using the utility Active Directory Users and Computers, by default the CN name is created in the form of "Blow, Joe." I am therefore trying to find a way to avoid this so that the script can manage itself. Does anyone have any suggestions on how this could be done?     - How to automate data input to Word template with VBScript Can someone tell me how to use VBScript to populate a word document with data automatically? Im putting a legal template together with a bunch of contract stipulations and I'd like to be able to popup a window and have each item be able to be checked by the user, then all items with a check mark are sent to a new legal template and populated in the appropriate sections of the template using Word bookmarks. I've sucessfully used the Doc.Bookmark object to get data from the user via Input boxes and populate a Word template, but popping up windows with each contract item and asking the user yes/no if they want to include it would be messy.
