The problem is that the data inserted into strGroups is very inconsistent. For example, with administrator, all applicable groups are displayed in the msgbox command while for almost all other users some group memberships are omitted or no groups are displayed at all. In those cases where group memberships are retrieved properly, the applicable mapping commands complete as expected. We have no other issues with AD. Nothing seems to be broken.     - Reconnecting disconnected usb device Hi everyone, I've got a misbehaving USB drive that needs to have its cable unplugged and then replugged in every so often. I want to write a script to check if it is writeable, then if it isn't, virtually disconnect, then reconnect it. Does anyone know if it is possible to disconnect/reconnect a USB device with Vbscript?     - Error "VB Script runtime error: Path not found" because of large-size folder I have a script that intends to get size of all subfolders of a folder. The below function is used to get size of a subfolder. Everything is good if the size of a subfolder is about below 1 GB, but VB script will show error ("VB script runtime error: Path not found") if the size of a subfolder is more than 1 GB. Ex: "FolderA" has 4 subfolders: - "FolderA1": 70 GB - "FolderA2": 500 MB - "FolderA3": 10 MB - "FolderA4": 40 GB VB script shows error when it runs function GetFolderSize for "FolderA4" - error at line (*****). I don't know why it can pass "FolderA1" without problem although FolderA1's size is bigger than FolderA4's size. P.S I found that some people have this problem like me. Any solution?     - Closing down Firefox tab This isn't a VBScript question per se, but this is a pretty clever group, so perhaps someone has an idea. The summary is that I would like to be able to close a specific instance of Firefox, or rather a page thereof, when that page is cooperating to be closed. The scenario is that I want to have FF (Firefox.exe) iterate through a certain sequence of pages. If this was IE, what we'd do is bring up an instance of IE using Set IE=CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application"), and then do IE.Navigate "...". With a little event notification code we're in business, and at the end of the day, if we never made IE visible, everything gets automatically shut down nice and tidy. With FF, you have a nifty add in called GreaseMonkey. The way it works is that for a given piece of javascript code that will be applied, you designate which pages GM (GreaseMonkey) will apply it to. The code itself will be run as soon as the page is loaded but before the onload kicks off. If it wants, this code can submit the page or forms thereof, and in this manner it can sequence through multiple pages. Very nifty. The only problem is that you can't shut down/close the starting page. In the usual situation, this is fine, because the intent behind GM is actually to allow one to modify pages (e.g. remove the ad at the top of a certain page. Moving a button to a more convenient place for another page, and so on). But with its built in power, this little add-in is going places. So I can now make a Firefox app and have an icon such that if I double click it, it will start FF off on a given page.htm file. This file will have a GM script all ready to go, but the problem is that window.close() doesn't work because as far as FF is concerned the window was not opened via script, so at the end, I am left with a useless window. Unfortunately, taskkill doesn't work (for reasons described at http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2091165). Ultimately, I could make an OCX and have it identify the window in question and then have that window terminate, but I am wondering if there is a pure text based solution which is where the VBScript comes in. I should add that I could more or less get .Exec and .Terminate to work, but only if there were no other copies of FF active. Furthermore, FF seems to have precious few startup options.     - Cannot handle date validation. Need help. I have a html form with few fields. The fields are claim number, month, day and year. Actually the month, day and year together forms the claim date. There is also a variable named QuarterEndDate which contains the quarter end date value which happens to be 12/31/05. Now, before submitting the form, I need to do some validation check. The first validation (which I cannot get it to work) is that the claim date should be less than the Quarter End Date. The second validation is that there has to be a claim number regardless (which works by itself but does not when the first validation comes up). I would like to know what is the problem with the first validation in the code below? In VBSCRIPT what is the best way to check what values are we comapring (e.g. we have response.write in asp). I appreciate any help/suggestion on this issue. Regards.     - CreateObject using different credentials I'm trying to write a script that checks a list of remote computers to see if they need patches installed from Windows Update. I would like to be able to use the Microsoft.Update.Session COM object to do so, since this seems to be the easiest way to accomplish the task. In VBScript, the CreateObject function allows you to create a COM object on a remote computer if you pass it a second parameter with the computer name. I intend to do something like this: --- Set updateObj = CreateObject("Microsoft.Update.Session","remoteComputer") --- The remote computers I will be checking have an alternate domain account that grants me local admin on the box. The domain account I will be running the script from has no access to the remote computers Is it possible to specify this alternate account before or after calling CreateObject? Alternately, is there a way for me to do this through the Microsoft.Update.Session object?     - Need a script for field techs to use to reset user passwords We have a Win 2K3 AD domain with multiple site. Spread out among these sites are field techs that assist the users with their PC issues. I need a script for field techs to use to reset user passwords. We do not want to give them access to AD Users and Computers. The problem is that I can write a script that uses an LDAP call such as ("LDAP://cn=user,ou=management,dc=domain,dc=com").     - Please critique this script (Checking folder size) Hello. I've created a script to check the size of folders on a number of remote servers. The script works, but I'm sure there's some redundancy that can be removed - particularly in my use of f, f1 and f2 with the (FSO) File System Object. I was orginally using just f and f2, but when I tried to insert the timestamp I found that f2 would not work, and I needed an f1. Any suggestions on how to streamline this script would be appreciated. Thanks!     - Getting filenames (selected by date) into a text file Hi, I would like to do a daily backup of some files from a folder, but only the 20 most recent files. I'm using straighforward NTBackup with the "bks" option which allows me to specify a parameter file which I call mybackup.bks. This is a plain text file that contains the paths and name of the files to backup. My idea was to have a vbscript to create a new mybackup.bks on the fly just before the backup started. Mybackup.bks is basically in two parts : **Part 1 is the stuff that never changes, i.e. the C: drive that is backed up every night : C:\ C:\pagefile.sys /Exclude C:\Documents and Settings\Admin.....Windows NT\NTBackup\data\ /Exclude then there's the data on D: where I have a software project. **Part 2 changes every day, because we make hard drive copies of our data and new software versions twice a day to a folder on D: named "Project Copies". That folder contains two folders per day. I want to back up all of C: then only the 20 latest (i.e most recent) files from the "Project Copies" folder. My idea was that the script should start by assigning all of the text of Part1 into a variable, MyPart1. Then read through the Project Copies folder and pick up all the filenames (into a temp file ?) and get them sorted (descending by date) and then assign the 20 latest (i.e most recent) paths and filenames to another variable, MyPart2.     - VBS runs, VBE doesn't I have a script that does a recursive search of the entire C:\ drive looking for specific file types. If it finds any it writes a log file to a network share. I have a user name and password hard-coded in the script to mount that share, so I want to encrypt the script before it's deployed. The VBS version of the script runs correctly, but the VBE version does not. It's bombing with a "permission denied" error on a line that is part of the recursive read. I'm logged on as an admin while testing the script, but it's as if the encrypted script is running with user rights and attempting to read a folder that requires elevated rights to access. At least that's the same error and line that bombs if I'm logged on as a user and run the script. Anyone have an idea why the encrypted version would bomb, but the clear version would not?     - The quickest way to create large junk files on disk I have a very big disk (it's around 3.5Tb). I have a bunch of machines that run automated copies of Photoshop 7.0. Photoshop 7.0 can't save a file to a disk with more than (I'm guessing here) 2Tb of free space - it puts up an error saying the disk is full. Since I can't for the moment upgrade the copies of photoshop (the automation will fail), I've decided to implement a more "cunning" scheme. I'm going to fill the disk up with big temp files that a script will generate/delete as necessary to keep the freespace on disk below photoshop's artificial limit. So, do I really have to loop around writing zeros to a file object to create a big file (say 500Mb in size)? Is there a way to simply say "this file is 500Mb in size" and then save it? Asking here in case anyone has had any experience with this sort of thing (and out of curiosity too). Regardless, I'm going to experiment tomorrow and will report back.
