    - WScript.Shell.run and string with new lines? Sorry for the repost. I'm trying to run a string that has linefeeds. The below code works if what comes back from the webservice is a single line, but if it's more than one line it chokes and does not perform any of the lines.     - Why Can't You Set the PageFile on Server 2008 using VBScript and W Ok, so this is a bit of a wierd one. During our automated build of Windows Server 2008, one of the options we would like to set is the size of the Page File. Because we have servers with lots of RAM and often not large system drives we like to set them manually, this also helps avoid page file fragmentation. In Server 2008, before you can set the page file manually, you need to disable the automatic management of the page file using the win32_ComputerSystem.AutomaticManagedPagefile property. When I set this property to false using either a PowerShell window or WMIC from the command-line it works nicely. However, when I try to set this property using VBScript it fails to save the property. I'm not aware of normally needing to make any kind of 'update' to WMI, it normally updates as you change a property, is there something that I'm doing wrong here? I've ruled out (I think) any kind of permissions issues by including the .Rename method in the script which successfully renamed the machine so I know the interface works.     - Writing a Boolean Statement Parser/Engine - Need help I need to write a boolean search string parser/engine for a scripting project. In a perfect world: - A user could enter a properly formatted boolean search string that I could pass to the parser. For example, they could enter "((wallace OR walters) AND (fire AND truck)) ANDNOT (water OR wet OR foam)". - When I passed it to the parser, the parser would return some type of collection (array, collection, etc.). - I would iterate through the collection checking each term to see if it was in the search string and return a similar collection w/ a series of True/False values. - The engine would look at the values I returned against the initial search boolean, and return a collective True or False. Has anyone written or encountered any or all of the functionality? Would this be a good regular expression project? If so, does anyone have some samples they could share?     - DNS and WINS update I am writing a script to update WINS and DNS entries on all servers in a file. I also want to output to an Excel file the success or failure. If a server is not pingable i want to output that to the spreadsheet and move on to the next server in the text file. This script works when i don't test to see if the server is pingable first. It will hang though if a server is not online.     - Changing Computer and AD Description to logged in user? As subject really. Let's assume I have various OU's full of workstations, and at present all the Active Directory description fields are empty. Can anyone help me out with how I could update both the Active Directory Computer Description and the computer description in the properties of "My Computer" to something like "Joe Bloggs, Department X" where the username and department are those of the user who has logged on (assuming the users department is populated on his AD account).     - regex Hi, I am hoping someone can help me with a regex. I think it is pretty simple. I could probably cobble something together using string manipulations, but I thought regex might be a more elegant solution, but I dont have much experience with reg ex and I need to do this ASAP.     - rename computer I have looked at 2 options, netdom and wmi rename but what is the best way to rename a computer and account from a script ? Also looked at rename and then adding computer to a doamin which depends on the circumstance may not be appropriate. I need to connect to a global catolgue while doing this so changes are seen immediately. The rename occurs most time from the workstation that is already a member of the domain. Administrator rights may need to be provided. I've been having issues with passing the variable computername into the wmi rename option. I have a folder (strFolderName) and its subdirectories that I want all the files checked (the criteria is in the next paragraph). Certain directories (including the root) need to be excluded.     - Detect/Set printer online state I've been working on this for a while. I have a KONICA MINOLTA PagePro 1400W printer that needs trained to be user friendly. When toner is running low (or I print 50 or more consecutive pages) the pages come out with blank patches. Pulling the cartridge and giving it a shake usually clears it up. The problem is, the cartridge has a chip on it and just taking it out of the printer makes it think it was refilled. This sets a flag in the printer driver which is designed to annoy the user to purchase an OEM replacement cartridge. I call it booby trapping. Anyway, what happens is, this flag causes the print driver to set itself to an offline state every time the computer (Windows 98) boots. No problem, I can set it to online manually, but it is annoying. It also displays a nag screen to replace the cartridge every time I print something. I have been looking for a patched driver that ignores the cartridge chip (the ideal solution). Having found nothing like that available (replacement chips are a non solution), I decided to write a script to handle it for me. I managed to eliminate the nag screen with an AppActivate/SendKey script running in a continuous loop on a 5 second delay between loops. But I can not seem to find code that shows me how to detect if the printer status is offline, or how to change it to online. So far so good, except I have an issue with getting the script to map network drives reliably. In our environment let's say everyone has to have "r" drive mapped to \\server\share. Then depending which department a user is in they need a set of drives mapping for that department. The "On Error Resume Next" is there so that the script doesn't tank if an attempt is made to remove a non-existent mapping, or if a server or share is down at the time someone logs on etc. so AIUI I need it in there. The problem I'm seeing is that let's say I don't have an "r" drive, the script above doesn't seem to map it *if* the line is there to unmap it first. Same for the other drives. If I remove the line to unmap the drives, and manually disconnect them before running the script they map. If I remove the "On Error Resume Next" line the script tanks the first time a drive doesn't exist to be removed etc. I'm slightly confused and would appreciate someone casting an eye and telling me if I've done something really stupid or could do it differently/better to be more robust etc. Thanks in advance.     - What is the difference between VBS/WSH? I'm quite familar with VBScript and have used in assorted HTML/ASP-relation situations. I'm also aware that VBScript does not have to be contained with in HTML/ASP page. When it comes to WSH, I'd need to know a tad bit more about it.     - swbemobjectex access denied on Put on Printers I have an hta that calls vbscripts to install tcp/ip printers. Below is a sample of one of the scripts that it calls. An AD group has permissions to the folder & files. The hta and all the scripts work fine together. They add the tcp/ip port, install the printer drivers from the server and everything is fine when I login to my computer(which I'm an administrator on). If I logon as a regular user who does not have administrator rights to my computer but has rights to the folder/files, I get the swbemobjectex access denied on the objNewPort.Put_ line. I have read posts and looked on the msdn site cited & tried several different ways below -- I have commented most out. But still get the same error message.     - Closing open sessions on windows xp with vbscript Can I close open sessions on windows xp file share with vbscript? I have an xp machine doing some simple file sharing and the users normally run the program and exit and there is no problem. Sometimes though the leave the program open leaving files and sessions open. I would like a cleanup script that I can schedule to run every half hour. Is there a way to encrypt the HTA application and make it run encrypted, without having to install additional DLLs, or Applications when distributing it to the end users? The issue at hand, is that the HTA exposes some code that I would rather not. Well if you just want to show the raw data you can use a textarea or
possibly the xmp element, which I believe is deprecated.
