waiting for function/process to finish...
Hi all,
I am looking for a simple way to wait for a process/function to
finish. I have tried a few combinations of code, however i keep
getting various errors and i am getting frustrated, hence the request
for help.
what i am doing is running a file copy registration function for dll
in vbscript that i need to wait for it to complete before i do the
next function/sub.

I would like to put some script in place that will wait until the
copyDLL function has completed before doing nextFunction() etc...

Renaming files
Hi:
I've written a macro in vba that works well where it will go to a directory,
find a file and rename it. The problem is, I can't get it to work in vbs.
The catch is that I won't know the exact file name to find. So, for example,
the file will begin with "Int_Data" but then the program that creates the
file will attach a set of numbers to the end of the file extension like
"Int_Data_123456". The numbers are something that I cannot predict.
Below is the code I've written and does not work. I think I'll need to use
InStr to find the file, but I'm not sure how to use it to find a file
beginning with "Int_Data" and rename it.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

vbscript error 70 - permission denied
I am new to VBScripting but have done some development in VBA. I have a
procedure that I have written to run on Windows-XP systems connected to
Windows-2000 server. Whole point of script is to do some intelligent file
copying with msgboxes to user to confirm intentions, file sizes, dates,
times, etc. All works well EXCEPT for the actual file copy. Even though I can
access mapped shares on server and other users local hard disk published
shares from command prompt and list contents and copy files at wiil, the
copyfile operation in the script invariably fails with error 70. What is the
point of having a copyfile operation, which I have used with great success in
vba, that basically is unable to copy files in code. Any suggestions from
anyone would be greatly appreciated, as I am greatly frustrated.

VBS reading all groups from OU and there members
Hello,
Iam a vbs beginner and I want to write all distribution groups and there
members from one ou in a textfile. I want to write each group and there
associated members in one row, separated with semikolon. The next group with
there members in an second row, and so on.
But in my script, the groups and each member are written one above the
other. Reason: I don`t know how to write from an array to a textfile in one
row!

800A0007 Out of memory retrieving AD object
Hi,
I have some users in AD that are in 150+ Domain groups. I also have a
login script that uses:

On the getObject line, the user is getting "Error: Out of memory,
Code: 800A0007" and then the script terminates.
It looks to me like the client VBS engine is running out of memory
retrieving the large AD user object for parsing. Is there a way to
fix this? I do not have the option of removing the users from the
many groups..
Or any other guesses/ideas?

DirectX Version
Is there a way to find out the version of DirectX on a system from VBScript?
Currently, we determine the version of DirectX via a VBScript by looking at
the
registry entry of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DirectX\Version
This worked OK with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, however for Windows
Vista and for Server 2008, this registry key indicates DirectX 9 instead of
10. The reason given for that is that DirectX 9 exists in Vista and Server
2008 for backward compatibility purposes.
Using dxdiag we can see that the DirectX version is indeed 10, but we cannot
use dxdiag within a script (easily) without writing the version to a file
with dxdiag and then reading it in, which is a little unreliable and "clunky".
Do you know of a way of determining, either by registry or other means, what
the version of DirectX is.
We use this script for patching machines and servers and need to determine
the correct patch for those that are DirectX level dependent. Currently our
script is no longer working in a mixed XP/Vista/Server2003/Server2008
environment.

it only has 2 office files

Run setup.exe from netshare
Hello I am having a tough time figuring this one out. I need to run
the setup.ese for Office 2007 from a network share and then apply
updates via a msp file. I have the following scirpt below and it will

VBS Script to Run Macro in Access 2003
I want to nightly run a VBS Script in Scheduled tasks to open an
Access 2003 database and execute a macro.
The problem is that the database opens to a switchboard screen. I
need to open this database with a VBS script that mimicks opening the
database with {shift} open. My code:

Script to Delete Contents of Recycle Bin
I'm seeking a logon script which will delete the contents of the
Recycle Bin. This is necessary because we have found that since we use
My Documents folder redirection and Disk Quotas on the Server 2003 R2
SP2 file server, that the Recycle Bin contents on user's computers are
being included in Disk Quotas on the server. The script I was using
below is causing Windows Script Host vb runtime errors in line 44

that already exists - the catch is that i need to add it to the end of
a group of information and that information starts around the middle

So i would like to be able to add additional commands (lines of text)
to the [SetupHotfixesToRun] section of the file by running a single
vbscript. The text/instructions i would like to be able to have
listed in the vbs (or a comma delimited file that can be called from
the vbs)

AppActivate an Internet Explorer window
I'm having some trouble accomplishing two tasks with a modified
version of Tom Lavedas' script.
Specifically, what I am trying to accomplish is:
1) Detect if any Internet Explorer windows are already open and that
have a title of "Google - Windows Internet Explorer"
2) If there is, bring to the foreground (and with the focus) the first
one found
3) If there are not, open up Internet Explorer and navigate to a
specific web page (and with the focus)
Tom Lavedas' script pretty much does the searching and title
comparing, and that seems to work fine.
My only issues is that I can't bring to foreground the windows (the
one that I'm opening, and the one that already is open).
Can anyone help me figure out what's wrong with my AppActivate ?

As well known I can write into an Excel cell a certain value with in a VBS script with e.g.

Can I write the value 55 into multiple cells at once?
Imagine I want to write in all cells 2,5 .... 2,37 the value 55.
Do I really have to iterate through all cells individually or is there a function like

VWD 2005 Express ?
I'm not sure I'm at the right place here, so direct me if
I'm not.
I downloaded Visual Web Developer 2005 Express and 2008
Express.
But I can't get them installed. It seems right at the very
end everything goes
bananas. Halts and goes into the panic mode by Disk
Checking. I have to power
off and reboot, then it wants to do a check disk. It did say
something about compatible
hardware? Both versions did the same thing. I have XP Pro
2. It creates
the directory and looks like a lot of files are there but at
the very end of the installation is when
it goes nuts. Any Idea's. I'm going to try it on vista
this afternoon.

I simply can't figure out how to clear these values so they don't get
recycled during the loop.

I have a windows application that dereferences the MsHTM.dll. The app
is successfully able to parse existing HTM documents allowing me to
access the DOM objects as needed.
With my latest changes I want to utilize the MsHTM.dll to parse some
text for me. For instance, I'd like to be able to parse the following
text into an element, and then inspect its child nodes later on...

PROBLEM
When my program tries to execute line 1 above I get this error

But I know that the dll is registered because I use it in other places
(just not like this) in the program. I get the same error message when
I try to instantiate any HTML objects (HTMLSpanElement,
HTMLDivElement, HTMLInputElement, etc.)
When I remove "new HTMLGenericElement" from line 1 then execution
continues to line 2, but that fails b/c objGeneric does not point to
an object yet=85
QUESTION(S)
- so obviously I need to point objGeneric to a new object but how?
- Is there an easier way for me to parse this HTML string?

I have a script that gets the FileObject.DateCreated value and the
FileObject.DateLastModified value and the date created is more recent
than the Date last modified. anyone know why?
These files are being moved around the network. FTP'ed to our server
then copied to some PC's.

Supplying a variable to wshshell.Run
As part of a new login script I am writing I can successfully do the
following if I manually specify the servername:

DLL question
I have some software (DLL) that writes events to the event log that I would
like to see what functions are available. Is there a way to call the DLL and
get available functions? I would llike to eventually get all errors that the
DLL could write to the event log. The support for the company hasn't been

but i need to secure the system using the active directory settings.'
Now i need the script to ask for AD credentials prior to writing and use
these credentials for the actual write-process. Best of all would be, if i
could check the write-permissions for the directory prior to writing and
deny the write, if the user is not allowed to write..
Could anyone help me with this, since i can't seem to find any scripts
online and don't have the needed knowhow myself..

While the script is running the user is provided with a webpage that

Scripting user creation. BUT How to add to groups.....

Below is a full copy of my code to date which seems to work nicely.
Im still tinkering with it as parts are yet to be added home dir etc.
Basically it pulls users from a CSV and creates their accounts.
However how on earth do i add them to a group....????
Every user will by default need to be a member of the "students" Group so
can this be hardcoded somehow..?
Then they need to be a member of a more specific group pertaining to that
class only.
Ideas anyone..?

Is it possible to run an update query on a disconnected recordset?
I cannot find any info on using a recordset in a query.
I need to update a field in a disconnected recordset created from a
CSV file (rs_Asmt). The update info will come from a disconnected
recordset that I will create at runtime (rs_TestDates). The updated
recordset will then be streamed to a text file.
