    - Need help in ending the madness Two things, 1. I need help in coming up with a script that can verify enforcement of smart cards by determining if the "Interactive logon: Require smart card" security option is enabled for each administrative account in the Enterprise.     - DNS and WINS update I am writing a script to update WINS and DNS entries on all servers in a file. I also want to output to an Excel file the success or failure. If a server is not pingable i want to output that to the spreadsheet and move on to the next server in the text file. This script works when i don't test to see if the server is pingable first. It will hang though if a server is not online. When i add the ping test it fails with an "Object required: 'objShell' " error in this line "Set objExecObject = objShell.Exec(strCommand)" see script below.     - Changing Computer and AD Description to logged in user? As subject really. Let's assume I have various OU's full of workstations, and at present all the Active Directory description fields are empty. Can anyone help me out with how I could update both the Active Directory Computer Description and the computer description in the properties of "My Computer" to something like "Joe Bloggs, Department X" where the username and department are those of the user who has logged on (assuming the users department is populated on his AD account).     - regex Hi, I am hoping someone can help me with a regex. I think it is pretty simple. I could probably cobble something together using string manipulations, but I thought regex might be a more elegant solution, but I dont have much experience with reg ex and I need to do this ASAP.     - rename computer I have looked at 2 options, netdom and wmi rename but what is the best way to rename a computer and account from a script ? Also looked at rename and then adding computer to a doamin which depends on the circumstance may not be appropriate. I need to connect to a global catolgue while doing this so changes are seen immediately. The rename occurs most time from the workstation that is already a member of the domain. Administrator rights may need to be provided. I've been having issues with passing the variable computername into the wmi rename option.     - Help with file functions I've gotten some of this done. Not being anywhere close to being a 'guru', I hope some of you can help. Here's what I want to do. I have a folder (strFolderName) and its subdirectories that I want all the files checked (the criteria is in the next paragraph). Certain directories (including the root) need to be excluded. This part I have working. All the file names are written to a .txt file (strOutputFile). The part I need help with is parsing the file name which should contain a date such as YYYYMMDD. The file name should be in a *,*YYYYMMDD.doc format (or could be a .dot). If the file a .dot, it needs to rename it to a .doc also. The current date needs to be checked to see if the file is older than two business days (don't need to worry about holidays). A final list needs to contain folder name (not complete directory name), file name, and the age of the file (based on filename YYYYMMDD-now()). Can anyone help?     - Detect/Set printer online state I've been working on this for a while. I have a KONICA MINOLTA PagePro 1400W printer that needs trained to be user friendly. When toner is running low (or I print 50 or more consecutive pages) the pages come out with blank patches. Pulling the cartridge and giving it a shake usually clears it up. The problem is, the cartridge has a chip on it and just taking it out of the printer makes it think it was refilled. This sets a flag in the printer driver which is designed to annoy the user to purchase an OEM replacement cartridge. I call it booby trapping. Anyway, what happens is, this flag causes the print driver to set itself to an offline state every time the computer (Windows 98) boots. No problem, I can set it to online manually, but it is annoying. It also displays a nag screen to replace the cartridge every time I print something. I have been looking for a patched driver that ignores the cartridge chip (the ideal solution). Having found nothing like that available (replacement chips are a non solution), I decided to write a script to handle it for me. I managed to eliminate the nag screen with an AppActivate/SendKey script running in a continuous loop on a 5 second delay between loops. But I can not seem to find code that shows me how to detect if the printer status is offline, or how to change it to online. So far so good, except I have an issue with getting the script to map network drives reliably. In our environment let's say everyone has to have "r" drive mapped to \\server\share. Then depending which department a user is in they need a set of drives mapping for that department.     - What is the difference between VBS/WSH? I'm quite familar with VBScript and have used in assorted HTML/ASP-relation situations. I'm also aware that VBScript does not have to be contained with in HTML/ASP page. When it comes to WSH, I'd need to know a tad bit more about it.     - swbemobjectex access denied on Put on Printers I have an hta that calls vbscripts to install tcp/ip printers. Below is a sample of one of the scripts that it calls. An AD group has permissions to the folder & files. The hta and all the scripts work fine together. They add the tcp/ip port, install the printer drivers from the server and everything is fine when I login to my computer(which I'm an administrator on). If I logon as a regular user who does not have administrator rights to my computer but has rights to the folder/files, I get the swbemobjectex access denied on the objNewPort.Put_ line. I have read posts and looked on the msdn site cited & tried several different ways below -- I have commented most out. But still get the same error message. I have an xp machine doing some simple file sharing and the users normally run the program and exit and there is no problem.
