    - using logon script to record value from HKCU to text file.... I'm trying to simply record a registry value (string) from the HKCU - it works great if the user when they logon have local admin rights. Only a few have this. This is what I currently have stored in a batch file called out in our logon script.     - Error 424 on RegExp Object I've had a script running happily in Classic ASP for the past 18+ months with no issues and then all of a sudden, it stops working on my local machine (XP Pro). The code works fine when it's hosted online so I know it's an issue with my PC but does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be? Are there any DLL's I can re-register?     - closing a command window after running some code First a brief explanation: on some of the servers I manage, there's an executable that's supposed to be running all the time. The past few days this exe has been mysteriously stopping. Not sure why or when, so I'm trying to determine the root cause. To that end, I wrote a script that checks to see if the exe is running, and if it isn't, restarts it. I run that script as a scheduled task every 20 minutes, so at the worst, we lose 20 minutes of functionality on a given server. On the server, the executable is called from a batch file. And a related question: in comparing the code from the batch file and the code I put into my script, you might notice I omitted the string "Assembler v2.8 Production" (quotes included). If I add this to my VBScript, the code won't run. I'm guessing it's a matter of finding the right combination of quotes/doubled quotes, but so far I haven't stumbled across the correct one.     - Status windows instead of wScript.Echo I would like to monitor my steps in my script, but the only way I know how is to do wScript.Echo "Blah blah blah". This isn't good for me because I have to hit OK after each step. Is there a way I can pop up a little dialog window where I can see my progress whether it be somthing that changes the message each step or does something like: Step1 running... Step1 complete!     - Copying Wscript.echo to the clipboard Morning all, I need to take a wScript.echo and copy it to the clipboard. The script I supplies my variables and outputs to a wscript.echo for me.     - Converting IP Address to 9 Digit Decimal Number for msRADIUSFramed I am having to enter a static IP address for all of our VPN users, which is about 1,000. I am not a math person, but when I convert my IP address to a decimal number, it is a 10 digit number which is 1 digit to many to be added to msRADIUSFramedIPAddress attribute. I receive an error, it only takes up to 9 digits. Somehow Active Directory converts the decimal number to a 9 digit negitive number, I have no clue on how to get the 9 digit negitive number, If you already have a vbscript to convert an IP address to msRADIUSFramedIPAddress format. That would be awsome. But just even able to convert the 10 digit positive number to a 9 digit negitive number would be great! Thank you for you help!!     - Clearing the MRU programs from the start menu I'd like to clear the MRU programs from the XP start menu (the ones that get added "below the line", not the ones pinned above the line) with a script, but I can't even find where they're stored. I see there's the verb "Remove from this list" associated with each entry, but if I can't find the container to see the contents I can't invoke the verb. If I list the Items in the special folder START_MENU the only thing that shows up is Programs. Maybe that's not even the way to go about it. Any ideas?     - Error 800A0046 when trying to copy file locally Hey first post here, also new to scripting. I'm trying to create a script that reads a text file taking the path from that file and then copying the file from the path in the text file to a specific destination. I've got the reading of the text file down and everything seems to be ok, except when it goes to copy the file, when it tries to copy the file I get a Permission Denied message, this is a local copy from root of C to a temp folder and I'm admin on the machine so I can't understand why it would be a permission issue.     - Slow logon when homeshare not available Situation: we divide our network for students and employees with VLANs. All computers for Education are placed in a student vlan, all administrative computers are placed in an employee vlan. When an employee logs on to a computer, which is in the student vlan, he can't access administrative resources, so he can't connect to his homedrive / homeshare. When an employee logs on to a computer in the employee vlan he will succesfully access administrative resources, the homeshare is succesfully connected. The problem is that logging on to a computer which is in the educational vlan causes a delay of 90 seconds because the server is not available. We sniffed the network and have seen that there is 3 times a ping request before the logon will proceed. We removed the homedrive and homepath setting in the AD user object and connected the homedrive based on subnet with a script, this solved the problem. But this causes problems with laptops users (folder redirection.) We want to workaround this problem without changing homedrive and homepath settings in the user object. Thanks in advance.     - Using SWbemLocator.ConnectServer with non-domain credentials Ok, so I have a scripting issue that I canâ??t find a solution for. Iâ??ve tried everything I can possibly think of, and have searched endlessly for an answer on all the forums/newsgroups. Iâ??m trying to use the SWbemLocator.ConnectServer method with vbscript to connect to a Windows 2003 server remotely and gather WMI data. All servers are Windows 2003 Server. ServerA = workgroup server Iâ??m trying to run the script from. ServerB = workgroup server Iâ??m trying to connect to. I can do this fine, as long as ServerB is connected to a domain, and I use domain credentials to authenticate when activating the ConnectServer method. However, if ServerB is part of a workgroup and I try to use the local admin credentials of ServerB in the ConnectServer method, I get â??Access is Deniedâ?? with an error code of 80070005 (DCOM Error regarding incorrect username/password). On ServerB, in the security event logs, it appears that only the local credentials of ServerA are being passed, as the â??DOMAINâ?? parameter is populated with the name of ServerA. Iâ??ve tried adding the name of the ServerB to the beginning of the strUser, or in the â??NTLMDomain:â?? setting so that it specifies the remote user account, but it still fails. This also happens if ServerB is in a domain if I try to use the local admin credentials of ServerB to connect, rather than the domain credentials. Iâ??ve scoured the newsgroups and spoken with other administrators. I get some solutions that come close to describing my exact issue, but nothing that solves the problem. Any ideas? Thanks!     - Mass switch DNS script - fail over/disaster recovery Does anyone have a script for failing over DNS? I wrote one, but I'm curious to see if anyone else out there has done it better. What I'm looking for is a script that reads from a CSV and will switch A and CNAME records. As the spreadsheet is setup now, it lists SERVER, FUNCTION, PRODUCTION HOST, DR HOST, PROD A, DR A, PROD CNAME, DR CNAME, etc. The script is run and told to switch to production or fail over, and then changes all the settings as need be.     - Need help finding local path to downloaded graphic Note: I have 100% total control over my environment. All users are using IE 7 and the application server is in the IE Trusted Security zone with all functionality defaulted to "Enable" in the IE custom settings for the zone. The only restriction is that all network file access must use http://, and not a UNC path. (Okay, so I guess that isn't 100% but its close.) I have a website that includes photos taken of current construction projects. When a reporting page is loaded via IE one of the page elements is the project's photo. I need to know if there is any way to find the c:\my\path\here\.... location of that file on the local hard disk. I know it is in the temporary internet files and I already know the exact name of the file, e.g. proj2007.014.jpg, but IE sets up subdirectories. Alternately, if there is any way to save the file to a known location then I can just access it from there but I can't figure out how to do that. I'd prefer not to have to have the user confirm the file download but if that is required for security reasons that is okay as long as it solves the problem. Any input is appreciated.     - Listing more columns in "Recover Deleted Items" window As a matter of form, I am not talking about the Inbox\Deleted Items folder here, but the recoverable deleted items on the Exchange server (tools > recover deleted items...).     - move folders based on their date This sounded really easy to me when I was tasked with doing it, but now I'm bogged down and have run out of ideas. Here's a description of what I'm trying to do: 1. On drive X, look for all folders starting with the string "delivery", followed by a random number. There are also other folders in X called other things that do not begin with "delivery". 2. For each of the folders starting with "delivery", if the date of the folder equals yesterday's date, move it from X to a destination folder (X:\archive\#yesterday's_date#\, for example). Otherwise don't move it. It sounds easy, and I can do step #1 easy enough, but stumble with the date issue in step #2. I just realized one way I could solve this would be to get rid of all the existing "delivery" folders, then just create a script to move all the "delivery" folders and schedule that script to run at 12:01 a.m. each day, but that seems a bit like the blunt force way of solving the issue, and I'm betting/hoping there's a more elegant solution.     - Logoff script to restore a registery subkey Im trying to restor the Key HKCU\Softeare\Policies\Microsoft after making some changes in a logon script at logoff. The logon script adds Internet explorer settings to disable things like using ctrl-O to openn the Open dialog. Prior to running the logon script the subkey Internet Explorer does not exist. I use reg save to save a copy of HKCU\Softeare\Policies\Microsoft and then try to restore it with reg restore HKCU\Softeare\Policies\Microsoft and the file name. This works from the cmd line login as the user. However I will nod restore the key from the script at logoff. All other parts of the script work. the specific line that does not work is: WshShell.Exec ("%comspec% /c reg RESTORE HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft ""%USERPROFILE%\explorerPoliciesBackup.hiv""") FYI Wshell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") I have even tried to use the reg delete command with no success. I have a printer server with about 200 printers on it, i've been able to get a list of the printer names to a txt file, and have written a piece of code to read from said file, pass the name connect via WMI and set the sharedname and the "shared" value to True, thus sharing out my printer. However i cant see to find a way to enable the "List in the Directory" Tick box which would enable to printer to be viewable under the server name in AD.     - html input forms??? using a series of input boxes on a form the text in the box is always highlighted when tabbing forward or backward. sometimes i would prefer the text NOT be highlighted, for instance when the user just needs to verify the text or other times when the text needs to be appended. in either case if the text is highlighted a single keystroke wipes it out. does anyone know how to stop this highlighting? I have tried using a range to set the cursor to the end and setting the input value equal to itsself, both work but the highlight ALWAYS flashes first and it looks sloppy. any help or ideas greatly appreciated!!! Does anyone know how I can do a complete workstation registry search and
replace based on a keyword.

We migrated to a new file and print server and in every workstation registry
is the old file server name all over the place.
I ideally would like to just replace the old server name "w2afpsys000" with
the new name "w3sfp1" in the registry.
