    - Object not a collection error. I am attempting to use the following script to query information from the workstation of execution and insert that information in a small MSSQL database.     - stdout.writeline output issue Hello, I'm working on a program that needs to parse a text file, pulling out a field and it's corresponding value. The fields I need to search for are in a text file, one field per line. All of this is really simple and straightforward to me, but I cannot figure out why my output (to the console) is not what I expect.     - Createfolder and removing readonly flag Hello. I created a folder on my local pc using CreateFolder method and I saw that the ReadOnly attribute is partialy set (it is not the check mark sign but the green filled square). I suspect this is the reason I can not copy files there using CopyFolder. Can someone give me please the code for creating a folder and coping another foder into it? I am creating an Excel object in one sub as so:- sub form_load Set objExcel = CreateObject("Excel.application") <loads of other stuff. end sub Within that sub I can get Excel to do whatever I need..just great. But, my program contains about a dozen subs some of which also need to use the same instance of the Excel object as they will be used to read/ write/format the same sheet as the sub above. I keep getting errors when subs, other than the one that is creating objExcel, execute saying could not find or execute objExcel. How do I make objExcel available to all my other subs?     - Exit Do I've been instructed by a dot net / asp programmer that Exit Do is not a great way to end a loop. Can someone explain to me if this is so, or does this only apply to higher level programming languages ? I am using nested loops and need to exit out of one loop into another for something to apply.     - InputBox output detection I really need some precise information How do I make a rule based on if: 1. Cancel button is selected 2. Or if OK is selcted however no input is provided in the InputBox. I have 2 different events that are to occur depending on which occurs, and there cannot be any overlap. I have found that If IsEmpty(variable) can do detect both and so the same results for both occurs from my statements. I need more finer way of determining this. Does anyone have any tips ?     - Cross Child-Domain Scripting Hello, I am attempting to write a .vbs or .hta or .asp to serve my purpose. Simply enough, i need a user in sub1.dom.com to be able to write to a group in sub1.dom.com and sub2.dom.com... my issue is that i'm getting referrals from the secondary server. basically i'm simply passing in the domain by user input, then connecting to the correct domain... I'm using service accounts in each subdomain. I am having issues launching the vbscript from sub1.dom.com domain using a user residing in sub1... if i use a user in sub2.dom.com in the script running on sub1.dom.com, it will add... i'm at a loss as to the proper way to add users to universal groups...     - How to copy Files from one computer to another using Win32_Directo Hi. I can copy a file (using Win32_Directory) from one folder to another, within one computer. But I can't figure out how to copy a file from Computer A to Computer B. I want to learn how to use Win32_Directory to copy files from one computer to another (instead of using the filesystem object, which I [mis-?]understand is less reliable on remote computers). Also, I'm hoping that learning Win32_Directory usage will facilitate my learning the ins & outs of wmi. (I'm a masochist.) The code below shows all the (various wrong) ways (that I dreamed up, and actually) attempted to use Win32_Directory to copy files from one computer to another. I'd appreciate it very much if anyone could: 1. "Show me the way ..." to copy a file using Win32_Directory, and/or 2. So it is called say from Box1 to BoxA, BoxB, BoxZ etc... To find out where BoxA-BoxZ have been running backups, the script interrogates the backup logs on BoxA-BoxZ.     - WMI and Joining Domain (sysprep related) I'm looking to add a touch more automation to our PC deployments and am starting to grasp at straws. I am currently using WDS to deploy XPsp2 (slipstreamed) pretty much unattended. Sysprep is performing a JoinDomain using a preset name with wildcards (Computer-xxxxx) which works well - I simply logon to the pc after deployment and manually rename using our naming solution (<3_letter_Building_Code><5digit_Asset_#>[special_use_suffix]) ie: EMC12345LAB Our asset database (Oracle based) contains information (entered manually) and includes mac address, building code, asset#, and any additional suffix. The db is currently exported every 10 minutes into a MySQL db. Q: Is there any way to automatically have the systems named properly by querying the database for the info (I don't want db drivers installed on the workstation though so am willing to have the db exported to csv or to some flatfile for reading if necessary). I have vbscript examples for renaming the workstation and can manually run it once the local admin group has been added to the pc but want something unattended. The local admins group isn't added to the workstations Administrators group until the workstation is moved into the proper AD container. One partial method I have available and can use after the fact is to open an IE window (scripted) with an url containing the workstations mac address which returns the full workstation name in the innerhtml (IE: objExplorer.Navigate "http://internalweb/hwaddr/?hw_address=" & MACAddress) What I'd like is to have WDS or a post-install script run (with privileges to allow renaming the pc on the domain or have the script join the domain and put it into the proper container) that will modify sysprep.inf or whatever else is needed to have the computer join with the appropriate workstation name. The only field tying the whole thing together in the db that can be automatically retrieved would be the mac address. Ideally I'd like to have 2 functions. 1: Name workstation using database info and join to domain. WDS to image the workstation. At the end of sysprep mini-setup, query for the what the workstation name should be (and maybe retrieve a container name also..based on an entry in the asset db) Join the Domain with the proper wsname. 2:via HKLM...Run: Silently run a vbscript that will check for admin privileges, check computername against the db and if it is different call a computer rename script. Can I launch a vbscript from cmdlines.txt (during the sysprep mini-setup) to get the wsname?     - Delete Local Profiles for WinPe I am trying to delete the local profiles on my computer. However, whenever I try to delete a users profiles under C:\Users\* on my Vista machine, my script fails. It seems to be that it can't some of the special folders in C:\Users\*\AppData. For example, my script always fails on C:\Users\*\AppData\Local\Application Data. This appears to be a redirector but my script sees it as a folder and tries to delete it. I have spent many hours trying to get around this but every time my script fails with an Access Denied error. I have used WMI and the FileSystemObject.     - Backing up files with vbscript and maybe Volume Shadow Copy Hello, I'm looking to write a small vbscript to backup a laptop users PST files to a network drive. I would like this to happen without the need for a user to close Outlook.     - Move file if created in last two minutes I have an application which writes a txt file to a certain directory. The application writes to this file twice using the logged in users credentials, in quick succession. Once this process is finished I need to retrict access to the file by the creator. Two options spring to mind:- 1. Restrict the directory and change the file owner once the application has completed 2. Move the finished file to a directory the creator does not have access to. Option 2 seems the simplest if I can script to check file creation date is more than say 2 minutes older than current system time.     - Replacing single apostrophe (') with two single quotes ('') I am using RC wintrans as the software to localize our company`s software. To localize the strings being used in our software i export all the strings with their string IDs to an excel file and send them for translation. Now when i try to import the translation back into the DB of RC wintrans, excel does not return the strings starting with single quote ' , hence the translation of such strings are not imported automatically into RC wintrans. I would like to write a script, which searches through the strings in the excel file and replace every string starting with single quote ' with two single quotes '' ( remind you its not double quote but two single quotes). I was wondering if there is anything but slmgr.vbs for activating Vista. I
know that XP had the WMI Class Win32_WindowsProductActivation but this does
not appear to be available in Vista. I know I can use slmgr.vbs to activate,
but it doesn't allow me to check whether or not vista is activated. If there
is a new WMI class for Vista or a way to check whether or not Vista is
activated I would really like to know about it.
