    - Need Help Converting VBA to VBS I have been trying to work on creating a script that will shut down a computer when ran. Only problem is i managed to code it in VBA. Take into account i have never learned VBS before and figured they would be similar, unfortunately running the script directly doesnt work...however if i copy the code into Excels macro section...the computer shuts down correctly.     - computed column alternative Is it even possible to perform a calculation on an integer-based column of data obtained from a MSI database, where the data is constructed at runtime into a table onto a web page (hta)? I wanted to use a computed column in my database for this function, and then found that a computed column is SQL proprietary, which I assume means it won't work in my MSI database. Given the constraints of the MSI database, I'm thinking I'm going to have to carry out the calculation outside of the database. So, instead of empty set, the query returned something bad to ws? I'd like to distinguish the empty set from error. I tried to test IsEmpty(ws) or IsNull(ws) before the For loop - both tests return false (that's, not empty and not null) Is this a WMI or vbscript problem, or a hole in my head?     - Help! Stuck in .Net Framework SDK hell... Warning, this question applies to win98se, but I'm hoping that there is somebody out there that can shed some light. Up until recently (perhaps before installing some recent microsoft system updates), whenever I coded up an error (gasp!) in an html page or hta script, I was presented with a dialog asking me if I wanted to debug. If I clicked "yes", then I was taken to mse (microsoft script editor) for a debugging session. Now, I get presented with a dialog. Dialog Titlebar: "Microsoft .Net Framework SDK (English)" Dialog Text: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." "Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'netfxsdk.msi' in the box below." O.K. I do have a much older version of .net framework installed (v1.1 beta) but that apparently is not good enough. So, I went online and downloaded the current net framwork sdk (which takes several hours at dialup speed). When the above dialog popped up again, I gave it the correct path to the installer. What I got back was ANOTHER dialog, informing me: "This component cannot be installed on Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows NT 4.0. Upgrade your operating system to Windows 2000, or higher, and then rerun setup". So, there you have it. Microsoft is telling me that I can't debug my script code with mse anymore unless I upgrade to w2k or winXP. My question is: does anybody know how I can just get the debug capability (with mse) back again, _WITHOUT_ upgrading to winXP??? I'll be eternally grateful for any helpful solution, jw p.s. I am aware of "Lord Omlette's" page: "Using the .NET SDK on Windows 98", unsupported by microsoft though it may be. I may try to work my way through that. But still, there is no guarantee that even if I did get the latest net framework sdk installed, that script debugging would work again.     - Completed Script to Change Printers on Client Computers This is a script that I wrote to change the printers on client computers from an old server to a new one. It is somewhat messy, but I though someone might benefit from it. As you can see in the code, we had special circumstances for 2 of our printers. If you don't have problems like this, you could remove most of the middle sections and just move the printers to the new server. This does require that the printers are shared with the same name on the new server. There are some message box pop ups that are commented out, these just help with troubleshooting.     - Identifying if login script is running on a server or workstation. Im working on migrating or script from a batch file to a vbs file. This script is going to map drives and log certain infomation about the PC as well as a few other things. What I need to do is have it map the drives and after that deturmin is its running on a server or workstation. If its running on a server, then I want it to exit the script. I though using the version numbers would work till I found out the workstation and server have the same numbers in 2k. In the batch file we have a app from a resource kit called gettype.exe which deturmins the OS and role of that machine and raises a error level that defines the machines role, but I am unsure how to tap into the errorlevels in vbs. Im not set on this method but that is the only option i have right now. Anyone know either how to get the errorlevel from the file or another way of getting the role?     - logon script for an examination account In Alberta, high schools have what are called diploma exams. Some of these exams are written on computer. The basic setup is that students log on to a generic account. That account then loads a Word file called dipoma.doc. Diploma.doc has a footer. The students replace the line XXXXXX in the footer with their six digit student id. Then, they are told to use Save-As to give the file a uniqe name. The word doc also automatically saves every five minutes and is formatted with a specific font and size and double line spacing. We used to have the students save to a directory called diploma on the local drive. But then I had to make another script to delete the diploma directory on each computer after each exam. Also, we have now put Deep Freeze on the computers and some of the computers don't have a 'thaw space'. So, what I'd like to do is create a server share like \\server\diploma$. I know how to set up the share and ntfs settings so students can save to that directory and only see their doc.     - cscript I am new to using cscript and am trying to debug a script. I can start the debugger using a command like "cscript //x myscript.vbs". That seems to work fine and the debugger stops on the line that has a problem and asks me if I wish to Break or Continue. (I always choose Break). My question is that when I use the Stop Debugging menu option, I get a window asking me whether I want another instance of the debugger or use the existing instance. No matter which I choose, my script is restarted in that instance and continually stops on the bad statement. In essence, it appears that there is a loop that will not allow the original debugger instance to stop and allow me to edit the offending statement. Is this "normal" or am I missing something? The problem I am having is if the internet connection is down (it is being worked on, so it happens a fair amount), then the script fails and then doesn't run again until after the server is restarted (which is next to never). They recently locked down our share that we use to install software for the
normal user.

Is there a way to access this folder using a "run as" type command where I
can put in my credentials under the normal user's session?

if this folder needs to hold software that normal users will install, they
need read access.
talk to whom ever changed permissions and explain this to them
